There are things in the codex that I dislike, like the infantry squad stuff, but it feels like GW can't win with these Krieg models. When everyone thought the engineers were OP people were saying GW were just trying to sell the range with OP rules, now it's a "middle finger" because rough riders are better than the death riders. It's starting to feel a bit whiney...
@@dozencatfish1667 you know the community isn't a monolith right? some people complaining about one thing and other people complaining about a different thing is not whiney.

The kreig not having the melta lance is weird ad in the lore they use them alot, to a point they sometimes go tank hunting and are called on to disrupt enemys breakthroughs using armour.
@@benlewis2130 also i feel this would make the rough riders obsolete. If a deathrider can do more and gets character support. I only hope that krier can lead rough riders in the future. So i can use either datasheet with the models.
@@uwesca6263 deathriders shouldn't be in the same teir as roughriders. deathriders ride mounts that are to regular horses what space marines are to regular humans, and the riders themselves are essentially stormtroopers. deathriders should be alot better and able to do more per model, but then cost way more per model, and rough riders should be able to have more models (larger units maybe?)
It's unfortunate that these horses are the centerpiece of the new box, but cavalry has close to no support ingame - no detachment has a central role for them, most strategems don't benefit them...
I would argue Recon benefits cavalry a moderate amount, but otherwise I agree. The death korps box is a strange combination of models. Should have had a better mix of units, it's nearly all cavalry... Same as the new Combat Patrol. GW really wants to sell us horses!
I think a generic officer option would really help them. Dreir is a little bit of an all-or-nothing option, and a cheaper model (or a command squad) giving them one order, a minor buff and the opportunity for an enhancement from their detachment rules would make a big difference.
Short answer: Glascanons and only do damage with Marshal Dreir in charge. Their ability is nice, but not game changing, strongly depends on the final points

i would argue the rough rider ability is also significantly better as you can constantly have them move with fall back and charge, also the rough riders ability allows them to ignore all move, charge and advance modifiers

I have a fair bit of sympathy for those responsible for trying to set the points for these guys. On the one hand they're neither all that tough, nor all that hard-hitting, so it seems like they should be cheap. On the other with their fairly large footprint and the reactive move they can potentially wreak havoc on an opponent's attempts to move up the board, especially melee armies, potentially blocking one unit from moving up and then reactive moving to gum up another one. They have the potential to be seriously annoying in Recon and might even see play to screen tanks in the other Detachments.
Giant footprint and insane cost if you run 10+dreir... no survivability.... barely a pip of ap... I think I will just run them as rough riders until the rules improve

This whole krieg release feels like one giant money's paw wish. And the only finger left uncurled is the middle one
I'm not sure if that typo was intentional but it certainly could have been.
Monkey's Paw but close enough lol.

Auspex can you do a video on how viable a full cav army for guard would be ?
Trying to reenact the Emperor vs Void Dragon be like.
Seeing as there is 2 Cav units and 2 Cav characters (only 1 can go with Cav), not very well in more than a 1000pt game
You can bring 62 cav models for about 700 points.

I've been playing Warhammer for 26 years and never seen a unit of rough riders or whatever they're called now survive to get to the enemy
They really lost a lot by losing the death rider officer which gave infiltrate.
