    This is flight 8 of 13 from my recent journey around the world. In September/October, I set out to circumnavigating the Earth, and after 9 days, 8 airlines, 13 flights, and over 24,000 miles, I eventually landed back in Kansas City after visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Doha, London, Dublin, Munich and Newark. Over the next 4 weeks I'll be posting these flights in order, so you too can take this incredible journey with me! If the video doesn't have this bit at the top of the description, and in the pinned comment, it is not part of the around the world flights.

    Wow. They really manage their land differently in Thailand compared to here. Seeing the ticketing and check-in hall at BKK brought back memories for me. I was there in late November 1995 getting ready to head for NRT-JLK-LGA-PIT and finally to SEA. That trip took 34 hours, and I most certainly had a case of jet lag. I did a full 180 degree turn around the planet and then, flew from LGA to SEA, compounding the jet lag I already had. My body felt pretty messed up and I had to go to work the next morning.
    Anyhow, you're continuing to tap into your Inner Phil Koeghan, ready to hand out your next clue to the Amazing Racers for their next activity. They've been in Slovenia these past 2 episodes. Wow. That's a REALLY scenic country and classically European. THAT'S a country you should visit.
    We're having dry, sunny weather this entire T-Day Weekend, and well into next week, something extraordinary and almost completely unprecedented for late November. We're also over 5 inches under budget in terms of rainfall for 2023.
    Glad you got to fly on Qatar Airways. They're a really good airline. There's a video on YT of someone on a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-LR flight from AKL to DOH, taking over 17 hours flying time. He posted the entire flight from start to finish with nothing taken out of the video during the flight.
    Anyhow, time for me to rest of up the jet lag from watching this video.

    It's quite faint, but the famous 777 scratchy rattle can be heard if you put your ear to the speaker. I wonder what it is. Harmonic frequency maybe, something to do with the GE90, who knows. There are 777 videos without the rattle, including several 772s on your own channel. Could be the Pratts don't exhibit the rattle.

    Was this your first time at DOH? I have been several times, most recently last July, it was my stopover to/from Japan to ZRH/FCO. I remember my first time arriving there being surprised by how aqua the Persian Gulf is. It was a little strange in the opening scene, I didn't hear QR's distinctive boarding music...were you aboard so early they weren't playing it yet? I enjoyed my flights with QR, they had really good food overall, but I prefer their A350 config to the 777. The latter's seats are a little too narrow.
    There was quite a bit of weather in that first 1.5 hr out of BKK. Also that was a cool last shot of A7-BAU, we could see the window you were sitting at!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  9 місяців тому

      This was indeed my first time in Doha. Sadly though, this was my shortest connection of the entire trip, so I didn't have time to do anything there but run from flight to flight. I had 45 minutes to connect, and they were already boarding the second flight when I got to the gate. And I actually found the seats on this 777 to be extremely uncomfortable, so I've never flown Qatar's A350, but it has to be better than what this 777 had haha.

    • @haroldlipschitz9301
      @haroldlipschitz9301 9 місяців тому

      @@sla31 45 minutes! That's risky at DOH, you're lucky you didn't arrive at a bus gate.
      HND-DOH-FCO this summer I had 77W/359 flights. The 10 hours from HND-DOH was VERY uncomfortable, I kept having to get up to save my back, which was tough because it was a red-eye. The 3x3x3 A350 cabin on the next flight felt much roomier and the seat was slightly wider but had better padding and legroom. On the way back I had A35Ks all the way with the same seat and was able to sleep comfortably. I don't know why the 77W seats are so terrible other than the narrower 3x4x3 config.

    You record with an iPhone 15 Pro but there's no way you hold it for 6 hours and 29 minutes right? Is it mounted?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  9 місяців тому +7

      Yes, I film everything with iPhones. Currently 14 & 15 Pros. And yes, I do hold the phone for the entirety of the video. Even on long flights. There's two reason why I do this and don't use a mount. First, most airlines now have rules against using mounts on their aircraft. Anything that attaches to the window or chair or anything else is just outright not allowed. Some crews may let you get away with it, but technically mounts aren't allowed. And second, and really more importantly, my videos are intended to be the highest quality possible. And you cannot get to that threshold with a mount. Because there's a big problem with using mounts and iPhones. iPhones have spectacular cameras. In fact, the iPhones I film with aren't even used for any other purpose. I bought them specifically to film with. When I'm not flying, they stay neatly packed in my bag, awaiting their next assignment haha. But... With overall camera quality comes a major disadvantage. And that is that the cameras on iPhones suffer greatly from vibration. They are not designed like GoPros to be action cameras, and if you mount one to a machine that has tons of vibrations running through it, the final footage will be all warped and distorted. If you mount an iPhone to the window of an aircraft the footage looks like you were filming through a bowl of clear jello. The whole picture wobbles back and forth as the vibrations get transferred directly into the lens of the camera. The only way to get around this is to completely isolate the camera away from the plane. And the only way to do that effectively is to hold the camera by hand. So, to ensure I get the absolute best quality videos possible, I do indeed hold the camera by hand, the whole time.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  8 місяців тому

      Probably because that's what I used to replace the original audio. See, Qatar is one of the airlines on a growing list that blast copyright protected music during boarding. And if I even include 10 second of it, all of the ad revenues from this entire 7 hour video go to the record label and not me. So, when they play music, I have to replace it with something else.

    How do u always traval so much alot??

    • @sla31
      @sla31  9 місяців тому

      Well, I utilize several strategies haha. In the end though, it's really just a lot of hard work over the years has started to pay off. So first, I have this channel, which I've built over 8 years now. For 6 of those 8 years, I lost money every month. I was putting in my own disposable income every month to take flights, just to post them on here. Now though, as the channel has grown, I'm typically able to cover most of my flights with a combination of the ad revenues I get from UA-cam and the 60+ Patreon supporters and Channel members the channel now has. I also use points and miles pretty heavily to offset costs. For example, at the end of last year I opened a United Quest Visa and used it to get to the spending threshold and I got like 80,000 United miles for doing so. Because I don't fly in business class, those 80,000 miles were good for like 6 or 7 free domestic flights if you can find the right redemptions. And then lastly, I still put my own money into it. I went to school, worked my way through college, graduated with two degrees and no debt, and without debt I was able to put a bigger portion of my monthly income to stuff like travel.

      @sla31 The problem with riding 777’s is basically my ears pop whenever we land or sometimes in flight. Mostly on the -300ER and -200ER variants, the uncomfortable 3-4-3 configuration is probably tighter than the 787’s or A350’s 3-3-3 configuration. Then I flown the 777-200LR Variant, it was noticeably quieter and more comfortable then the other 2 variants I flown on. It has the 3-3-3 configuration, which was then best configuration on the 777 Market. The problem is the 3-3-3 is getting rare especially in the 777 variants. Only a few such as Air India, Delta, Saudia, British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Pakistan International. I don’t know about the new 777x though, I need to fly on that aircraft once its commercial service begins in 2025 or 2026. This is why I always prefer the 777-200LR because it’s quieter, more comfortable, smoother and especially its enormous range. But my most favorite aircraft is always the Airbus A380, its huge cabin always feels very comfortable and especially a dream to fly on one!
