    0:23 suffering feels meaningful
2:21 Stupid frame of references for meaninglessness (million years vs your life now)
3:01 You can adopt meaning by reducing your suffering
7:21 Ask yourself what in your life isn't in order that you can put in order today with a little effort, so your experience tomorrow is a little more put together than it is today. The little snakes to slay. You'll get a little bit stronger and a little more clarity. Then incrementally you can build up competance, more power over your circumstances and move towards your potentials. Life becomes more meaningful.
16:03 Have discussions with your conscious to build it up for more accuracy
18:28 We're in a state of crisis because 'god is dead' and there's no replacement to rely on given to us by default, because there's not many immediate survival concerns. So we must adopt a different one that's good for us / the world.
19:51 If you scrap value structures there's nothing to live for. Adopting the nations doesn't work too well.
21:05 You need to create a meaningful life that feels meaningingful enough to you so you can significantly ease and bear the suffering in life, if you don't want to become corrupted into the choas of the devouring radical left or the dehumanising, sterile uniformity of the radical right. Pick up responsibility so that you can pick up a more meaningful life.

I agree that we have a lot of freedom within our current societal and political structures. The downside, it seems, is that these structures create a literal breeding ground for mindless, dull, fearful and unhealthy individuals and families. That being said, It's videos like these that are starting to restore my faith in humanity and inspiring me to work towards taking responisibility for my own life so I can be a role model to others and provide value to my family and community.

    • @constrictum
      @constrictum 7 років тому +3

JaimeG88 hey man, you're here. Maybe your father did not have a good father figure or a mentor too. So stop whining and be thankful that you can find solutions/explanations to your concerns so easily. UA-cam wasn't here 20 ago. Sure there were books but the time and dedication needed to find answers to your questions was too much. Before internet if you wanted to know the capital of all the countries in the world you had to go to the bookstore and pay for a book and then read the entire damn thing because maybe the names are not in a list and they are revealed gradually and maybe if you wanted them in a list you should've written down each one of them as they are revealed by each chapter. Now you just Google the damn thing and it's there.
So your problem is that your father didn't have the time and dedication to contemplate the meaning of life?
I've had the same excuses as you at some point in life. As Mr Peterson says, stop making excuses and take up your responsibilities.
I may be offtrack here, concerning your situation, but blaming your ancestors for your being doesn't float anymore, it's just an excuse for your failures.

I often hear, use your anger to get things done. In my opinion this is just an indirect way of spreading anger (instead of projecting it onto other beings; fights, wars etc). What I learned with the Thich Nhat Hanh practices, is to practice mindfulness to be aware what I feel so I can decide which emotions I water and take responsibility for it. In this way I can become aware of anger, transfrom it into love/compassion and take action from that place.
What I feel in the modern western society behind daily actions, there is a lot of:
    - Stress
    - restlesness
    - resentment
    - anger
    - fear
    - desperation
Why? I think its because of the fact people are constantly trying to live up to some social narrative to feel a sense of being good enough as a person in the form of:
    - Comparing to others
    - Competing with others
    - Chasing validation from others
    - Chasing materialistic things and status, which is the product of all the above, and which lies at the core of overconsumption and fucking up mother earth.
In my experience, over the years I became very good at neglecting the things above, because I was addicted to the story the voice in ''my'' head was telling me, which is completely based on past experience and social conditioning. I was AFRAID to let go of the story. Why? Because I thought I would die! There s only a single time im in this body on tis earth, and I'm not going to spend time walking around in FEAR and moulding myself into somekind of unnatural form which is completely based on some externally formed opinion. FUCK THAT
Let's stop hurting ourselves and others and see the facts!
some of the biggest industries in the world:
    - Weapons (destruction)
    - Drugs (addiction)
    - Seks (addiction)
    - Don t get me started on food and the amount of addictive shit being put in there.
    - Whats next, water? Air?
Stop taking things for granted and stop giving your power away! The moment you were born you we're PERFECTLY ENOUGH and those trees outside your house, THEY PRODUCE OXYGEN!

I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have discovered this principle of life-that when I want to do what is right, evil is right there waiting.

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.

"You shouldn't make a public display of your virtue until you've straightened up your damn life." I mean....wow.
In my opinion, one of the most powerful things you can do to climb out (and you know what I mean if you are watching this) is exercise. And its so simple. Just begin. Do one pushup. Tomorrow or even later that same day, do two pushups. It builds from there. I promise you.

Aaah yes, that late night youtube procrastination binge that does not fully feel like procrastination because you convince yourself it is a cure to procrastination. Yet you keep doing it. Surely this time around it will work.

He says the "right" thing to do is escape pain. And part of escaping pain is building the capacity to deal with it (responsibility). If he is asked, why should we try to escape pain in life? He does not have an answer. If one recognizes that certain pain is only meaningful now and may not have any effect on the future, like after hundreds of years one child's suffering won't matter, he says that is stupid.
Pain obviously does matter, up to a certain point. But then it does not matter after that point. JP simply demands people not look beyond that point. His framework for "right" and "wrong" is built on things that have meaning before that point.
There is no true end game to life. I think Peterson knows that but refuses to say it because it may cause less people to live prosperous lives. Just like a religious leader refuses to say to his followers that God does not actually exist, because saying that may cause less people to follow what he believes are good teachings for what he believes to be a good life.

Why is it"right" for the guy building legos and organizing his room? What is the meaning of this? What is the end game? Jordan Peterson is coming from a framework of "right" and "wrong". But why does he choose this framework? I don't get it..

I guess the 28 "dislikes" are people who participate in protests
