Maybe it's just me, but I would've put the conveyors BEHIND the traps so the baddies would be launched back into the traps.
That's what I thought. Mind you Splatter has always been terrible at tower defense and seems to miss the bleeding obvious.
what he said
Splatter’s strength as a content creator has never been that he’s particularly strategic or skilled as a gamer. It’s his ability to consistently put out content and monologue nonstop in an entertaining and informative way. He was a radio host before or something before right? Can’t remember. Sometimes his info is incorrect because he’s missed something vital but it’s okay. He presents the basics of each game well enough.
That said I also feel pain when I see content creators missing things obvious to me or making bad choices 😛.
@@DSeraph88 well its common knowledge and not rocket science so I feel like he's particularly stupid (Not to offend anyone)
@@dynaelder5037he’s also not very good at tactical games, which is especially funny because that’s the type of game he plays the most
is it just me or is the enemy animation really good? The stumbling when shot and the clawing at the ground when the window was shot out looked really good
Orcs must die? But for the emperor? I dig it
it's not like ordinarily orcs must die for any other reason...
@@baburikMust is a strong term. If you let the orcs live they just might develop into morally upstanding citizens that just want to be professional masseuses.
But it is funnier when multiple traps get them.
@@Naraku-no-Hana-WE now thats a deep cut, you perv
@@Naraku-no-Hana-WEThat happened and they were so much worse, war of the beast killed a primarch and nearly destroyed Terra
More like the terminids made it off world. For Democracy!
If they dialed down the lighting effects it might add a really nice horror element to the game. Or made the lighting a component that must be defended, and if it's destroyed, then you are working in emergency lighting, causing more tension and dread
It's a nice touch thematically but would also ratchet up the difficulty. Visibility (both of enemies and of the traps, their ranges, and their effects) is key in this genre where half the fun is watching enemies get spectacularly demolished.
They probably tried but it ran like doo doo
@@Naraku-no-Hana-WE sure, i'm just saying watching this video, for me, the glaring bright lights that made everything clearly visible, only seemed to highlight the lower resolution graphics, which kind of took away from any tension for me. I just feel, given the aesthetic, it might be more fun, (for me anyway), to have it be a bit more Alien Isolation, mood wise, while I'm setting up the defenses. Where I have to rely on the sensors for the defenses, because I can't see my enemies as easily.
Rewatching the video, it seems very inconsistent. For some reason, the ceilings are often very dark while the floor level is all very bright. It makes every hallway look very samey.
@@happyninja42
Maybe playing with the lighting slider could result in the desired effect.
It's all tight and punchy until Darth Vader joins the boarding party!
I like how signs are up for "no smoking" and "no fire" in a spaceship but... you are installing flame thrower traps!
you can always crack a window open. :P
The attack in the mess hall gave me Halo CE and Halo 2 first-mission vibes. I love the slick design of the weapons and the minimalist aesthetics.
14:50 Properly more effective to place the "jump pad" at the last flamethrower (closest to you) instead of the first. That way the mobs pass the max numbers of flames twice (the ones flung back).
A Sci-Fi 'Orcs Must Die'? I'm game.
Anyone else was hurting when Splat was putting sticky pads BEFORE the traps - so that enemies would NOT spend more time inside of traps, putting belts in the same place instead of in front where they would lunch enemies back into the traps - and then finally wasting ammo by shooting enemies before they run into traps?
Especially when he said I am doing the heavy lifting. 😂
Definitely triggered more than one “duuuuuuude”
@@rainingj87Wonder why ;D
yeah... there's a reason he doesn't like TD games...
And plays on The Pit and doesn't use his new conveyor trap to throw things into The Pit.
The first 2 "Orcs must die" were pretty good.
Space Run was an interesting take on the TD Genre too.
Will have to keep an eye out on this one. No money right now, lol.
Looks cool, been waiting to see more for a while. Hope that they co-op mode that they plan on implementing is fun!
this looks pretty fun! just started orcs must die 3 yesterday, liking this style of TD for sure. Thanks for the heads up on another cool looking game! I'll check it out
This reminds me of the part in the Galaxy Quest movie where they have to get to engineering or whatever, but the Thermians had recreated all the traps on the ship.
Oh I do like the look of this title. Straight on my wishlist, maybe even buy.
The game looks very fun. Setting traps and baddies getting mowed down seems very pleasant to get it pay off.
The FTL boarding mechanic as fps shooter tower defense... awesome
Been checking out their previews for a while. Definitely stands out from others in the genre.
Really looking forward to this game! Reminds me of dungeon defenders, one of my favorite games ever.
Oh damn i wasnt expecting a first person shooter! This looks really good!
"all of the parts seem to be where they are at."
and all of the tautologies seem to be tautologies.
Did anyone else say or think "we're the wet bandits" when he said sticky bandits? 😂
both Home Alone references, though. they were the Wet Bandits in the first movie, and the the Sticky Bandits in home alone 2.
Splat playing these games and making silly choices is better marketing than what the devs come out with because it makes my eye twitchy and i feel like i should try and do it better.
Orcs Must Die and the new Endless Dungeon are probably the most significant titles for the advancement of Tower Defense in the last decade. But generally, I agree that TD games have mostly been stagnant. It's a simple concept that most devs are comfortable sticking with.
I am, however, still looking forward to Defender's Quest 2...wheneverthefuck it will actually come out. The first one was outstanding when it released.
Kagero Deception did it first iirc
I call this Genre, 'Active Tower Defence'
Does it have co-op? I have a mate who loves this style of game and love to play it with him, won't stop me picking it up if it doesn't, but it seems like a game that would benefit from co-op
Looks neat. Thanks for showing it to us
I could watch this for hours.
Very cool game. There's a huge power spike for figuring out FLANKING fire in this game. This comes after some time with the maps and enemy behavior. You game their aggro by shooting them in the back, make them turn around to keep standing in traps. Or wade through the same traps again. It's free crowd control, and a very effective form of it. So plan you positions into the larger defense plan.
High ground is often available in this game. And once you are good at using it, you basically have less need for armor and health (and this is why the jet pack would probably work, as long as you have lots of map knowledge). The small tunnels can be used to great effect. It IS your ship after all. You would know how to crawl around surprising the bad guys, like Kevin from Home Alone.
But it has been a bit of a chore and repetitive, just to unlock what looks like a small part of the available tools. Why am I still stuck with only one type of wall trap, after 30hrs? How about some side objectives that flesh out the events? I'm thinking like the text boxes in FTL. Just make a decision here and there, learn about what's going on in the world of Sentry, receive small reward or punishment.
Oh this game, I had actually forgotten about it since the last time you showcased it but I do love Orcs Must Die. This may be a cold humorless Sci fi spin on the genre but still seems promising. I'm not entirely sold on the roguelike elements though. Part of the fun of Orcs Must Die is retrying stages with different setups to find better (and more entertaining) combos. Obviously you do replay these stages a ton but I'm not sure I like being punished for experimentation, nor the fact you'll be fighting the same stages with minimal cosmetic differences throughout the game. Unlocking new traps/weapons progression looks a tad slow for my liking too.
Ah well it's still a fascinating title to keep an eye on.
Purchased. Thanks Splat!
Buttfarts. Classy. I'm reminded of some of my own names. My favorite is Buckfutter
This is my most anticipated video of the year!
I agree with your proposition for the alternate ending when by their dogs siding with us the aliens agree we are the superior species and give up
loved Sanctum, may have to pick this one up after EA
Plenty of different tower defence games out the splatt that throw something different at the genre if you looked.
this would be incredible fun with friends
Had a pretty good time with Sanctum 2. I'll have to check this out!
"profile: buttfarts"
being an adult? whats that XD
buttfarts....as opposed to farts from where else?!!? Now I question everything!!
"being an adult? whats that"
painful and boring
35. I still name most my characters something along those lines.
It was Bootyfart yesterday, or something along those lines. When the names change we will know that the body snatchers have claimed Splatt.
@@happyninja42 I could tell you, but then yt would shadowban me again :P
This reminds me of N64 Bond Marathon after school! Same graphics style.
I'm not a fan of indiegames, but this one looks fun.
what goes better than nap time with slaughter? I'll tell you. Snack time, THEN nap time!
Slaughter first, then snack and then nap!
But that may give you some wrong thoughts xD
Reminds me of the Genesis:Alpha One demo (spaceship builder where every room has a vent level and you can place sentry guns)
The art has a deep rock galactic vibe that I enjoy, if they could get some sounds for players/NPC, maybe a voice actor for narrating the game? Game could be really neat
Been here for a long long time long dark/stranded deep days probably way before I was around 14 at the time glad to see your see your still around I check every once in a while long live the nerd castle
Looks pretty good but I agree the weapons or the traps could be a bit more spicy. That grenade is trash for example.
I played a PS2 (?) game back in the old days called Kagero; the Deception. Was a weird, medieval, kill the bad guys with traps game. Fun as F***.
This is a bit like it.
This doesn't seems to be as creative as Sanctum, but it does seems to run very smoothly aswell the gameplay seems to be very good.
~Just from watching this I already have 2 things that they should do: Make the ship easier to navigate, getting lost isn't fun, add a melee attack.
Bummer. Would have easily watched another 30 mins of this 😊
Orks? In space?
WAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHH!
Starcraft.
This just makes me want to play Dungeon Warfare
So many cool novel ideas in one game
I'm defo getting Dungeon Defender vibes!
Yoo Splatt has no love for Defense Grid or Anomaly Warzone Earth? Those were some amazing Tower Defense games, that I thought helped push the genre forward. Dungeon Defenders and Orcs Must Die! Were both pretty original as well. PLUS dont forget the Grand Daddy of them all. Plants vs. Zombies! One of the best tower defense games ever.
The grenade should just be a steak that charms the dogs.
I had to go pick this up, cause I LOVE td games, and this looks like Orcs Must Die and Sanctum had a lovechild, and it can only get better with time.
5:42 can we talk to the aliens and work together now? No!, because they are dead.
Have you ever tried Orcs Must Die!? This is almost the same game in space instead of a castle. There are differences but the basic premise is very similar.
I really hope they go places with this one, at it's current state it's a bit too bare for me, but maybe in the future.
Instead of your suggestion to hit a key to highlight path. they should just do what every tower defence does. And that is permanently highlight the path the enemies will take on each wave.
The shooting sounds and seems to feel kind of like goldeneye like. I am intrigued.
bruh accedentally clicked on a splattercat video, this is some nostalgia, haven't watch his content in fucking years
It's great when you want to play some indie games but not sure which one xD
Why? He is like only one who promotes actual indie hames.
Aegis Defenders feels like an interesting change on the tower defense genre
@@randomuser-xc2wr I get that! I think it's definitely just better with a friend. It's definitely unique in the realm of TD games. And looks fantastic
My headcanon for me that the aliens breached the mess hall for a burger
Thanks for showcasing. ^^
i feel bad for splat cuz he cant binge hell divers like everyone elce who loves fredom and democracy
On the plus side he doesn't have to worry about his pc crashing mid stream from cpu/gpu throttling while playing his indies.
@@Naraku-no-Hana-WE but SUPER EARTH needs him
Fun fact, if you don't want to install Hell Divers' root kit from one of the dodgiest DRM companies on the planet - run in under Linux. It runs without issues under steam proton and the game just shrugs its shoulders when told it can't get kernel mode access and it can't shim your BIOS. You must really hate yourself to run HD2 under windows.
@@lucidnonsense942 I do a lot of things because I hate myself. It's my primary motivation
ThankYou SirSpla77
I really hope Helldivers 2 add this possibility to defend Super Destroyers mission.
Love ya splat, but there have been some great developments in Tower defense games in the last half decade or so. That being said, it's a very niche type of game: if one doesn't love it, it's hard to appreciate it.
So it's Orcs Must Die in space, looks ok
You Should do "FROM GLORY TO GOO" Next- Its an indie game on steam similar to they are billions but space + pixels :) Really pretty game.
If you guys like this game definitely recommend Dungeon Defender and Orcs must Die
I don't consider this a tower defense, I would say more area defense or tower assisted defense, the towers didn't seem to be the primary killing tool, but more a weakening tool so you could easily dispatch the enemy units.
Of course you're going to run out of ammo constantly if you don't let your traps damage the enemies as much as they can first 😅 patience Iago, patience
looks cool
it's not even just the blandness, because you can't see all your traps at once the a lot of the action is done offscreen and the traps are too few early on. it feels like you're just standing there and holding the gun with little thought to what's happening. I've seen free the play games that have more going on.
Can you please review chromosome evil 2? The game failed in sales but i really love. It plays like if doorkickers was hardcore zombie survival
Nooo! Not our Planet of Urf! :D
Huh pretty cool how they went about this
Hey splatter can you check out Rushaug: Feline Warfare? It’s like metal gear but on a distant planet
They SERIOUSLY should consider adding a gamemode where all the traps stay - so that you will need to consider going "minimal" defense on the routes the invaders are coming from to slowly build up the other directions as well even if no one is invading from that direction this round. It would give the game a totally different dimension in the strategy and would stop the whole "turret spamming" aspect it has right now. I played "Orcs must die" and that other wizard one back in the day a lot - and this seems to be too much the same thing. Having that other aspect would seriously make me consider playing - and thus buying - the game. Right now it's too much like Orcs Must Die IMO.
So it's Orcs Must Die... in space. But less.
Profile: Buttfarts. That about sums up Splatter. 🤣
Why nut put converoy belts so it tosses them BACK into he wall fire thingy.. So they have to stand up while getting fired at.
It’s been said before that he intentionally makes sub optimal decisions when demoing games to avoid depriving the audience of chances to feel like they have room to improve / gain mastery.
Better trap placement you figure out on your own feels better than optimal trap placement you copied from someone else.
I think its past conspiracy that Splat goof around on purpose. When he wants he plays rather complex games and play them well explainin all sort of mechanics. Than sudenly next game he cant fit rectangle into square hole.
@@robertnomok9750That's right, it goes in the square hole!
How is this game not co-op? 🙃
The SMG looks like a NES
Guys in frozen pods that are defrosted and sent to fight aliens? Sounds familiar...
I am of course being facetious. Helldivers is not the first science fiction property to use this vague premise.
These are definitely not Kalsims feds.
1. Dial down the screen shake when shooting
2. Add a mini map
3. Remove the stupid timer during the planning phase. You have tension during the breaching phase, so give ppl time to plan properly. The timer doesn’t add anything, it just makes that part of the game annoying.
4. Not really a fan of ammunition in games like this, especially if there is no melee option. Running out of ammo just feels bad (yes I know there are ammo stations, but I’d rather have more turret options).
Excited to see how the game shapes up, but the timer issue is a big one for me, so it kinda depends on that staying in the game or not.
Maybe the game was a bit different 6 months ago, you can place down ammo stations and there is a melee attack. Atm the game seems too focused on using your guns though.
Man writes his title like theyre twitter hashtags
NICE!
minimap would be nice
Ha 😂 love the profile name lmao
Reco's roughnecks
So it is like "Orcs Must Die" but science fiction based.
Having played both, I prefer Sentry so far, but it's still early days.
so basically "Orks Must Die"
@@varvariiin Pretty much. More random in terms of wave intensity and can be more painful
The color scheme..." i didn't ask for this..."
Orcs must die figured out minimap in the very first entry. this game needs it badly.
also enemy movement path visualization.
Hasn't he played this before?
