Here's how I get 10 phrases from 1 idea. What's the point? The name of the game in improvisation is to develop ideas, so they connect to each other and learn to compose on the spot. Here are some strategies that I use. In the lesson, I'll show you which scale, how to develop a basic phrase and how to keep changing it, so you've practiced turning it into 10 phrases. Then you're practicing composing rather than jazz licks! That will serve you better in a real situation. At the end, I'll show you how I practice putting one of them on the bridge of the tune Satin Doll.

This is the way (for me at least). It clicks with everything else I've learned and frees me from constantly thinking about chord tones or noodling aimlessly.
