What I value most in this lesson is the ‘why’ as much as the ‘how to’. It makes me realise that I am that butterfly, flitting from flower to flower, learning something new without having explored the possibilities of each idea, and in essence learning very little. Today is the summer solstice, , June 21, longest day of the year, time to turn over a new leaf! Thanks Shan.

Thank you and well done for being honest with yourself. Your story is very common and it's part of the journey. Best of luck with the next chapter!

"I doubt anybody really knows what happens between doing exercices / building phrases like this and actually improvisation taking care of itself. For me and everyone I know, it just takes care of itself if you do enough work." 11:38
Not only you give us useful exercises but also hints on the learning process we are going through (ie. metacongnition). And this one quote answers a question that I have been asking myself for a long time. It gives me enough confidence and courage for months and months to come. Thanks a lot Shan.

You're very welcome and thank you for sharing that it helped you. Sometimes, we have to just do the work and let the rest take care of itself. The difficulty is often finding the "right" work to focus on. I wish you all the best with your learning/playing.

The fear that we might be practicing the wrong things and therefore wasting our time is ever present. It's important to be reminded when we are on the right track.

If you would like a book that goes through various permutations of three core II-V-I templates, I suggest Bert Ligon's Connecting Chords with Linear Harmony. He includes examples from some of the "greats".
