TONY MARTIN era with Black Sabbath is vital, such a meaningful voice. Super albums, then a beautiful solo career, with many collaborations..
Tony Martin i think is one of the most underrated singers of all time ever from any genre. His voice to me sounds almost perfect for a genre called “Neo Prog”.
Good comment!
Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath is my favorite one. This whole Headless Cross album is brilliant. I'm looking forward to the Tony Martin era Black Sabbath box set that should be released in May 2024. 🤘😎🤘
I'm looking forward to that also! Great tip!
I see a Sabbath reaction, i click i like i comment. Iommi is Black Sabbath. Iommi kept the fire going through a myriad of line up changes. Martin did a great job on 6 albums. Pound for pound Sabbath is the greatest band of all time IMHO.
Yes. You nailed it.
It should be a crime that Sharon Osbourne got it where Iommi can't use Black Sabbath name, if Ozzy isn't in it. Total bs, as Iommi owns the naming rights, or did, and is the only original member on every album. I could see paying Ozzy and even Bill Ward a share, for being of the original lineup, despite being out Black Sabbath, longer than they were in it.
@@joenorris5648 truth!
@@joenorris5648 I concur. even Geezer got cut out, and he was the lyric writer. Interesting to read his thoughts on it in his recent autobiography.
@@joenorris5648 that's not true. The court ruled that Ozzy and Iommi each own 50% of Black Sabbath and that the band can't be called Black Sabbath unless there are at least three original members of the band.
Tony Martin sounds the same live. Saw him live 4 times with Sabbath hes awesome.
Sabbath had in fact a lot of singers:
Ozzy 1969-1979 1997-2004 2013-2017 (Everybody knows right?)
Dave Walker - 1978 (Ozzy had left, but two weeks later he rejoined)
Dio 1980-1982 1991-1992 2006-2010 (Everybody knows also)
Ian Gillan (from Deep Purple) 1983-1984 (Recorded the great Born Again album)
Dave Donato - 1984 (Just for some months, never played live and never recorded official material, just demos)
Glenn Hughes 1985 - 1986 (Recorded the album Seventh Star, it wasn't supposed to be a Sabbath album, just a Tony Iommi solo album, but the record label wanted so...)
Ray Gillen 1986 - 1987 (Joined after the fifth concert of the Seventh Star tour, recorded the album Eternal Idol, but left before its release, so the band had to find another singer to rerecord the album and release it properly)
Tony Martin 1987-1991 1993
-1996 ( He recorded 5 albums with Sabbath, wich are Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Cross Purposes and Forbidden)
Tony Martin would be my favorite Black sabbath singer followed by Dio. Tony Martin has some great solo albums and other projects too.
For Black Sabbath fans never heard the Tony Martin era material, you're in for a treat my friends! Absolutely brilliant albums!
Tony Martin is the second longest vocalist for Sabbath
Listen to: Glory Ride, Ancient Warrior, The Shining, The Sabbath Stones, Anno Mundi
Just to start
All good songs!
I also recommend Jerusalem, Cross of Thorns and Immaculate Deception
@@DarksaberForce all good suggestions!
"The Shining" is so good. I almost like all Sabbath albums. I look at Sabbath as Three different bands. The Ozzy era, the Dio era and the Tony Martin era. I don't include Glenn Hughes or Ian Gillan because they were one and done, plus I hate the "Born Again" album.
Headless Cross is a brilliant album . Second album to feature Tony Martin on vocals, first to feature legendary drummer Cozy Powell. This album also featured session bassist Laurence Cottle, and of course Tony Iommi and keyboardist Geoff Nicholls, who had been with Sabbath since 1979.
My favourite song that has Tony Martin in it. Of the ones i have heard is “Nightwing”.
Yes, this song is a great classic! Nice comment as usual, shs!
Album is the Headless Cross
So dark and beautyfull❤ and heavy🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁
You also need to check out the two vocalist that came between Dio and Tony. Ian Gillan from Deep Purple was on Born Again and Glen Hughes from later Deep Purple on Seventh Star
Martin wrote this song from a dream or nightmare he had on tour.
Yep that Tony Martin can sing
Got a treat for you, Star One, Closer to the stars ( It's from Arjen Lucassen)
Tony Martin makes that song one you will never forget
My favorite Sabbath songs by different Sabbath singers 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Tony Martin: tie-When Death Calls/Headless Cross
Dio: tie-Sign of the Southern Cross/Heaven & Hell
Ozzy: tie-Into the Void/Supernaut
Ian Gillan: Zero the Hero
Glenn Hughes: No Stranger to Love
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is a bit off, but when I heard first time Arch Enemy - In the eye of the storm, I started to wonder why the main riff sounded so familiar. Then I saw in yt-video's comments mentioned Black Sabbath - Call of the wild from the same album (Headless Cross) than this song. And that was it! I haven't listen this album since 90's... I have to admit that I appreciate Tony Martin way more now than then. I was then so much more into Dio and Ozzy back then, that Tony's voice didn't sound right. How could I be more wrong!
HELL YEA! 🤘🤘🤘🤘This was one of the best albums back in the day for sure
LOVE the Tony Martin era of Sabbath!!!! The Headless Cross album is superb!!! When Tony croons, “MISGUIDED MORTALS….YOU’LL BURN WITH MEEEE!!!!” I get chills every time!!! Check out the title song, “Headless Cross” as well 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is from the Tony Martin Era, whose stuff is up there with Dio's Era, very underrated and dismissed. Very Sad. 6 albums of great music
Absolutely.
Martin era Sabbath is highly underrated. I guess it's simply because he is not Ozzy or Dio and he was not given a proper chance by many. The man can flat out sing. Besides his voice, the songwriting during his era was brilliant
As for favourite songs of Sabbath - it varies on mood - but anything off Volume 4 or Sabotage will make the list with Ozzy, "Children of the Sea", "Die Young", "Mob Rules", "Letters From Earth", "I"", "The Devil Cried" and "Shadow of the Wind" with Ronnie James Dio, "Trashed" and "Born Again" with Ian Gillan, "Seventh Star" with Glenn Hughes, pretty much all of the Headless Cross album with Tony Martin - to hear his range listen to the title track, or closing track "Nightwing". For his more melodic side, then Tyr's songs "Anno Mundi" and "Jerusalem" are a must, off "Cross Purposes" - "Cross of Thorns" is a beautiful moody ballad and although it's definitely not for everyone, off the last Martin album Forbidden, "Rusty Angels" and "Kiss of Death" are solid.
I wondered when you’d get to tony Martin sabbath great singer, tony sang on at least two sabbath records,I liked their cross purposes record
I grew up with the old school Metal bands. This was my introduction to Metal. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio. All these bands I love until this day. Tony Martin is the most underrated singer imo. He is great. I would suggest 'Anno Mundi' and 'The Sabbath Stones' from Black Sabbath's album 'TYR' - a heavily underrated Sabbath album imo as well. Tony sometimes sounds like Dio to me.
Great comment, Thomas! Glad you dug the request, brother!
@@mikeg.4211 thank you! Just saying how it all began.
@@thomashoffmann3656 😊👍🤟
Ronnie James Dio falling off the edge of the world
Love and peace! I hadn't recognized Tony Martin until lately. Has he worked with Arjen Lucassen? I bet he has.
There is a video of Tony Iommi and Brian May, jamming. I'll try to find that link, if you wish me to.
I was struggeling with other singers in Black Sabbath, too. Dio was (in my book) fantastic with the songs that where written for him. Favourite BS album?
Difficult to choose. Wanna list of 10 albums to choose from?
A gemstone in the history of rock music is maybe the band Rumplestiltskin. Have you ever heard of them? Tell me! I have both albums on CD.
Pretty surprising. Noone seems to know, anymore (I'm pretty old. Haha!)
Cool comment, peter! I've heard Rumplestiltskin, which is very cool. Nice dig!
@@mikeg.4211 The producer wanted to create a "superband", to rival Led Zeppelin. Are u aware of the members of the band?
@@peterdoe2617 No, who was in it? 🤔
@@mikeg.4211 Clem Cattini, dr. Jimmy Page wanted him for Led Zeppelin, but he was busy. Herbie Flowers, bg. Very well recognized, back then. A singer named Peter Lee Sterling. (Difficult to find anything about him.) But he had a "one hit wonder" with the song Beautiful Sunday, going by the name of Daniel Boone.
Black Sabbath 1968-eternity🤘
Well the album Headless Cross with Tony Martin is easily one of the best BS albums. Filled with Tony Iommi amazing riffing also!
Please do Black Sabbath I Witness
A great reaction! I do disagree about the length, which I think was perfect.
At least I am trying to say what I don't fully agree with more now.
@@enterthecronic Actually, one of the things I've always loved most about your reactions (and that makes you unique and better than other reaction channels) is your positivity toward great material. No need to fix what isn't broken and is working wonderfully! :)
I like almost all the Sabbath albums. I look at Sabbath as Three different bands. The Ozzy era, the Dio era and the Tony Martin era. I don't include Glenn Hughes or Ian Gillan because they were one and done, plus I hate the "Born Again" album.
Ronnie James Dio
Tony Martin
Glenn Hughes
Ozzy
Ian Gillian
from best to worst
👍...
*Gillan.
I'd rate Tony even on top of Ronnie especially for studio work.
Isn’t Brian May in this.
Yes, his best friend Iommi invited him to play the solo. You see a photo of him in the video.
There is no Tommy in Sabbath at all. Tony Iommi guitar, Tony Martin vocals
Tony Martin, the least appreciated (while worthy) singer of all time.. hope u keep on researching more of Tony with both band and solo
My favourite black sabbath singers is Tony Martin and Ray Gillen👍 I don't like ozzy.
Tony Iommi plays solo on track.
no Brian May plays Leads on this song
