I live in the country and every year I have swarms of hummingbirds I put out 9 feeders And I have to refill them at least twice a day They will sit on my thumb and feed. It's pure heaven for me!! When I go to refill a feeder they will swarm in that space and wait for me.They swarm around my head while they are waiting.I could go on and on but I won't. Janie
Sure wish we had that many Hummers here in Washington, your luky. I remember one year in Socal, I had four feeders on the Patio and one fall day I had to refill them almost hourly with a passing swarm reloading for the trip on back to Central America............and those were the Happy Days!
I just got a hummingbird feeder, for the first time, and when I first put it out, a hummingbird was checking it out. Now, I get one hummingbird at a time at the feeder.. not a lot like in your video. I see 2 or 3 hummers fly around it, but only one uses it. It is being used frequently and I'm very happy that so far, it has been successful. They are fun to watch! You have a wonderful set up there. You are lucky to get so many visitors! Thank you for the video.
blondie4591 ive had feeders for a couples years. But I’ve moved around a lot. I have 3 and sometimes I’ll get 1 at one feeder and 1 at another but nothing like this. I live in Texas right now
If you put one feeder out you get one hummingbird because whoever decides it is his (it’s usually a male) will chase everyone off. I put out 4 in different places in the garden and I get lots and lots of hummers - they still try and chase each other off but there is always space at a different feeder for them.
Now that is what I call hummer heaven. You are so lucky. Where I live in B.C. Canada, I only get 2 or 3 but I know they are the same family every year. So love them, especially when they get really brave and chase away even bigger birds like juncos or even Blue Jays that are near their territory. Happy birding!!
great job and have to say for over 20yrs in Ark I did this and now I had to move to mo in the ozark area and only have 4 feeders right now but this is what gives me joy, I had to learn the do's and don'ts to keep them healthy and give them time to migrate thru here going south before taking my last ones down, those who just migrate thru need that energy to continue on, yet we have the same ones return yr after yr too, so this is almost the same as my porch ty so much
I started with one feeder and got a bully Now I have 12 feeders and as many bullies. I sit and smile at their antics , giggling. It really makes me happy.
not sure I agree. my wife has watched and filled these feeders for a few years. we have witnessed almost no agreession at all. hummers are so calm you can approach to within a few inches of the feeders and the birds almost ignore you and go on feeding. on a few isolated days one bird might show agrees ion but it seems that with 6 to 8 feeders filled, the hummers have found a land of plenty with enough food for everyone.
Terrance Turner - I have a Ruby Throated Bully as well so I'm about to put out my SIXTH feeder in hopes that this will make him less stingy. He chases the other Hummers all around my house. They zoom all over the place and pay no attention to humans! Lol!
I live in Phx i have 4 feeders spread out throughout the yard. The birds seem to be very territorial there is a constant battle as the fend off the other birds when the establish its there turf. Maybe i need to get more?
This will never happen for me. Every year I have one hummer who patrols the yard and chases off any others, even though I have 6 feeders in different areas. This is beautiful, thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. I have two hummingbirds that come daily. I love the idea of adding more hummingbird feeders. I love their colors.
Love it !!! If you haven't already shown how you make your hummingbird juice please shown the process of your recipe. It's well known for hummingbird juice is 4 cups water to 1 cup of sugar and boil for at least 2 minutes let cool. please show your process in detail would be very grateful. You have a large piece of heaven in your backyard. Cheers! Thank you for sharing to us all.
I see 3 different varieties there. The black are Eastern Broadtails and they are usually very aggressive to other varieties so this was very interesting! Thank you!
This year-2018- I have lots n' lots of hummingbirds hitting on my 3 feeders on front porch (shady side of house in GA) - I think there are approx 40 birds - thet go thru a gallon of nectar in almost one day! I've used about 35 lbs of sugar this year-this has been a banner year for hummingbirds - I clean out feeders each time I refill them...such great critters!
Ohhhhh how beautiful...I have only ever seen 3 hummingbirds at my flowers I placed a hummngbird feeder out this year and not seen one bird at it...next yr I will so as the video shows and place about 8 feeders outside...here's hoping...thanks for your beautiful video of these precious birds ❤️💗💗💕
Man I'm so jealous. I thought I was doing good with 2 coming to feed daily (about 12 hrs too). You hit the Mother Load. They are beautiful to watch, and the 2 that feed here don't mind my daughter or myself watching them. We just don't get close and give them space like any other wild bird.-GSH
I would love to have these beautiful creatures in my yard! I have a couple of hummingbird feeders but so far, I've not seen any come by. New friend here... keep posting amazing videos.
I lived in Arizona and had hundreds of Hummers, they kept having to be shooed out of the house. Now I live in Washington and have 3, but they are happy
My Amazon is sitting on the computer desk, watching this video and her eyes are as big as quarters as she looks around lol. Thank you for the entertainment!
My man, this is *AMAZING!!!* I counted at least five different species in one frame of the video. How long did it take you to get all these little birdies to stop at your feeders? I would love to do something like this for my moms and for myself too. Is attracting a swarm like this possible in Georgia?
You're probably aware that we on the East Coast (Virginia here) only have the ruby-throated species but you can attract large numbers by working at it. More attention equals them noticing you and returning with increasing numbers. It is quite possible to attract a swarm over time if you put out many feeders as we do and keep them clean. However, videos like this fine one show something we stopped doing years ago, that is, we don't put feeders up on our porches. Before takeoff the birds lighten themselves by expelling waste - onto the porch. That waste attracts ants and grows black mold on the porch deck. It may seem like fun to have them very close but with large numbers you get a mess on top of the inevitable nectar spillage. Maintaining numerous feeders in top cleanliness means we'd rather not add more chores.
@@nebuchadnezzarsmith7846 I am glad you mentioned that! I live in Yuma AZ, and those tiny red ants (we call them piss ants cuz when u step on them they let out the scent of pee. It causes the ants to get aggressive & they try to swarm your feet! They have a very painful & itchy stinging bite!) will follow the scent of the sugary water, from little spills all the way to the feeder! So I put cellophane on my window awning slat & put a coating of Vaseline on it & the wire or chain leading to the feeder. As for the drips, I try to have it hanging over dirt. Then I sprinkle cinnamon over it & any piss ant hills I find! If the ants aren't bothering me, I leave them alone. They do have a role in our ecosystem.
Did your numbers build up through the years and what kind of increase? I'm in San Diego and doing this 1 year and I'm now at 1 gallon every 2.5 days. I'm hoping next year there will be more.
I have a cousin in Poway that I think is close to a gallon a day. At the end of the day when the dominant male is feeling generous and allowing everybody to feed take a picture of your feeder. Count the number of birds and multiply that number by 4 & 5. That will give you an rough estimate of how many birds you have. Every year your numbers should increase because it's the same birds and their young coming back.

For me it's only the females who feed together. One male chases everyone away so I added a second in the backyard. So far only a young male has discovered that one but I also plant flowers that they like, too.
Thanks for your helpful videos but I have a question; I read that feeders should only be filled as necessary for a one day feeding. Also that the feeders should be thoroughly cleaned daily. Can you address these issues? Thanks
+adel dragon I hear ya. At one time we had three feeders spread out across our backyard, but one hummer would commandeer all three of them. Any other hummers that would come into the backyard were promptly chased away. Wish I could figure out the secret.
