2 Ways to Take Your 10" Square Quilt Block to a New Level
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- The square block quilt pattern is almost the easiest quilt. But don't forget there is still seam matching in this type of pattern and lots of it. Square Blocks are fairly easy to cut (unless you are me) and make a beautiful quilt because the square block lets the fabric design shine.
Today I am going to share a new way you can take your square block to a new level. 1 way is to use an old is new technique called sublimation and I also share an alternative for those who don't have a sublimation printer and don't want one.

Thank you so much! You’ve given me so many ideas! April, you are a creative genius!❤😊
Well aren’t you a sweetie. Thank you. 😊
Thanks for showing us new things, however this just screams “more stuff to buy” to me. So I’ll pass on this.
I LOVE things that scream “more stuff to buy” ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ But another printer and a heat press is too much even for me! I love that April has everything ever invented …but I don’t have the $$.
@@daisy8297 it is a blessing to be content with what we have and to make lovely things with them and not always *wanting* something.
I think the flowers are beautiful,, but...not so much with the wine, and I enjoyed learning something new ,sew thank you, did you get your long-arm? I kept waiting to see you long-arm some of those quilt tops,,, I hope you show us some of that.❤ Now stop eye rolling and eat some chocolate !!
You can buy the sublimation already printed so all you would need is a type of heat press. You don't have to have the one she used. There are less expensive ones. She showing different techniques & options. I applaud you April for taking us out of our normal comfort zone 🎉
Lol
It’s the side eye roll at the end for me🤩❤️🙃🤣🤣
I am surprised my eyes aren’t stuck in the back of my head. LOL
I love doing sublimation. I use heat tape on my sub paper so it doesn’t shift any.
I love your work, April. You have given me some more GreAT IDeaS for sublimation. For my granddaughter’s 18th birthday, I made her a memory quilt. Montana is a twin so I used lots of my favourite photos of her and her brother growing up and of course Mum and Dad. I bought myself a sublimation press, the most basic of Epson Printers with the Eco Tank and filled the fresh tanks straight out of the box with sublimation ink. I used white polyester cotton, 80/20, from our Spotlight Store. The photos were stunning on the fabric. (I washed some practice pieces many times to make sure they didn’t fade). I combined the photos with cotton fabric. It was all quilted by me on my domestic machine. Talk about a labour of love. Many hours of work went into it but I couldn’t be more happy with the results. My granddaughter and her family loved it. I figured I could always sell the press especially as I had the knowledge to share with a prospective buyer. That won’t be happening now as your video has given me further inspiration. Thank you so much. Might add I live in Australia just in case the product and store are unfamiliar.
Thanks for sharing your story!! 😊
"I don't understand if you tell me you don't have a stash." That cracked me up - I laughed so hard I had to replay it to catch what you said next. Great ideas for some very pretty quilts. Thanks for sharing.
Ha ha. I am glad you enjoyed it. 😀
I hadn’t thought of using my sublimation printer for quilt tops but I’m glad you did. Thanks for sharing 😉 I tell my husband it’s not a stash… It’s just projects waiting to be done 🤷🏻♀️🤣
I love it. I am going to use it. 😀
Thank You for doing this demo! I have heard so much about sublimation, & had no idea what the heck people were talking about!!!
I live in a small apartment, already overrun with my fabric stash, & other hobbies, so no chance of me starting yet another new hobby!! It was very interesting! I hope you’ll do a follow up after you have washed it.
Fun idea just all of the technology is out of my current budget
I love sublimation crafts. Takes a while to get set up but it’s so worth it. As you have stated Miss April “stick around and you may learn something”…well thanks to you I didn’t know about the polyester fabric being the best choice. I’ve only sub’d on coffee mugs and kitchen towels. Sounds like I need to buy some poly fabric. 🥴😝 Have a marvelous weekend. 🤗🤗
You will be amazed at how much more vibrant your images will be. Jerzees makes a nice 100% poly tshirt if you are looking for shirts. 😀
Id love to see more of using other cutting options. I hve the CRICUT MAKER 3. I havent used it yet. Its only been in my closet for a year. I also have the sublimation markers i was going to use for making labels for quilts that i havent used either. 😔 Please help 🙏🏼
I will def put on my to do lists
Thank you so much for the suggestion
I think I would have done some thread painting on those flowers. Thanks for sharing your video.
That is a great idea. I may do that for the quilting. That video will be coming g soon.
I'd like to see how it looks after washing.
Hi April
I noticed that your stitching was puckering up the fabric. You might want to look at your machine’s tension. I think it’s a little off. With that said, I love all the quilts that you do. ❤
Joyce
Thanks for the tip! Joyce I appreciate that ❤️
That was interesting!! Had never heard about that. Would love to see the quilt when quilted and washed! I’m a fan of appliqué on quilts!
Will do
If you are going to “convert” a regular printer to sublimation, please know that you cannot use a printer that has had regular ink in it. You must buy a new printer and install sublimation ink instead of regular hint.
So true. Thank you for that public service announcement.
Do you also use a Scan N Cut? I have one and never use it. After a couple of years, it's 'bout time I learned, don't you think?!
Absolutely!!!
I would
I’ve to see how you use your circuit I have a circuit maker just scared to use it lol
I’ll put it on my list of topics
Thanks for the suggestion
🥰😍🤩
P.s. I want your shirt!! ( Fabric Addict ) 😅🤣😂🤩😝🤪😜
Thank you. Did you notice the line down the middle? It is sublimated and there is a seam in the back. I pressed the image on it and it lightened the front of the shirt where the seam is. LOL. The moral of the story is drape the front of your shirt on the base of the heat press and don’t press with a seam. LOL
@@aprilscraftroom oh I didn't know you did your shirt on the press. Nice.
I can't wait to see how this washes up, I hope you'll share photos of it. awesome ideas
Most definitely. I plan on sharing quilting it. It needs something. I just don’t know what?
I’d be interested to see what this looks like after it’s been quilted and washed. I’m really interested in you showing how you use your Cricut with fabric, I’d love a tutorial on this.
I would like love to see you use other cutting machines as well as some quilting on your embroidery machine. And thank you for explaining sublimation. ✂️✂️
Noted!
Your hair looks wonderful today!!
Thank you. I just got it cut. That is the only time it looks like that. LOL
I have to say that I love your blue eyelet shirt! It's beautiful!
Oh thank you!
I don’t do sublimation but I love your alternatives
Thank you
DUDE!!!! You're making your own panels! Awesome April!!!!
Ha ha. Mini panels. 😉
I would lime to see you use your cricut
I’ll put on the list! Thank you for the suggestion
I love learning something new, and I love how to do all the different blocks that was awesome.
Yes I would love to see how a cricket works. I keep going back and forth if I want to invest in one.
I love my Cricut maker for cutting fabric. And other stuff too! I think the rotary blade is the secret.
❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤
You forgot to stop the music.
Lol
Very interesting. I had not heard of sublimation paper or printing. You evidently have a lot of knowledge about new technology. Thanking for sharing.
Yes, my eyes have been opened.
I love technology. I am all about the toys! LOL
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Love Sublimation and love your Quilt. Yes, please do more Tutorial's on
on Sublimation with Quilt making and Die Cutting Machines. Seems
more enjoy other ways to use their skills. Thank you! 😊
Will do
Interesting……I didn’t think I would like the process, but now it’s stuck in my brain! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoy your videos. Hi fon Paradise CA.
Hi -love the name Paradise. It sounds like a great place to live.
While I think the actual printing came out nice… the appliqué (raw edge and straight stitching) unfortunately looks sloppy with a lack of cohesion in the design. While I realize that you are experimenting at some level (?) this looks like one big hot mess. Maybe leave some of printed as the 10 inch square and just stick to the flowers, save the wine for drinking for a crafty brain vacation…😂
I agree. This is a sample and the first one so I gave myself some grace. But I am not happy with it either. However, I can still add things. I am putting it on the back burner and letting it simmer. We will see what I can some up with to save it. LOL
How do you keep coming up with so many fantastic and different ideas!! Amazing!
Thank you! 😊
April, I love your posts and I really am interested in sublimation and want to try some of this. I also have a cutting machine (silhouette cameo) and would love a segment showing how you use your cutting machine to cut out images on fabric. I've also started making rope bowls and baskets and you've given me new ideas for the bottom of the bowls. Keep up the awesome work!!!
I will add those to my list. I have a silhouette too. I would love to see the bowls.
Thanks for sharing all your ideas with us, I loved the two quilt ideas. Very interesting!!
Thanks for watching!
i commend you on trying something new we can count on you to show us new stuff i want give you a thumbs down but i do not like this one sorry but you did great
No worries. You don’t have to like it all. LOL
I’m only getting music for most of it, not your voice! Such a shame 😢
I was afraid that was going to happen - the song I used got a copyright violation so my video was sharing revenue - I'm just going to go back to what it was originally. Ugh. Thank you for letting me know though.
Love the eye roll!😊
I love him dearly but he can drive me crazy!
You are very creative! I have been thinking about getting a sublimation printer, but I already have so many things, and it is expensive, and I don't know if it would be worth it to just make things for my family. But that is a pretty quilt. I am definitely interested in seeing how you cut your fabric.
I believe Brother has come out with one that is more reasonably priced than the Sawgrass printer.
@@aprilscraftroom Yes, thanks. I looked at that one, but then I read that the Sawgrass one is so much better. So if I did spring for one, I think I would get the better one. However, I have had a 12 needle embroidery machine for years, and I use that often. So I can put flowers or anything on a quilt or t-shirt with that. Still thinking about it, tho. lol
Please show us the quilt after it is washed, so neat.
Will do
Yes, I would like to see how you use your cricut to cut fabric
Will do!
This is very interesting, but I doubt I will try it.
It is definitely not for everyone. 😀
Always giving us new ideas! Thanks ❤
My pleasure 😊
So excited for a new video!!!
Awwww. Thank you. 😊
I love it thank you for sharing
You are so welcome
Can I come live with you?
Ha ha. I will ask my husband. 😉
Thank you so much! You’ve given me so many ideas! April, you are a creative genius! I love your channel and your content!❤😊
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching.
Fun to learn new things and be knowledgeable. Always love how you promote, just go for it . This helps us explore and learn. Thank you
I am all about try it and you might like it!
You are looking good today! Happy, energetic and helpful. Thanks for showing us new things.
😊 thank you
I hope this holds up better than most T-shirts. I hate polyester. Polyester T-shirts don't hold up well.
Have you tried the Jerzees 100% poly? But I know what you’re saying. They get little balls on them. Hopefully since there is some cotton it will hold up better. I will let you all know.
So so love this. Will definitely try this. Love you April.❤🎉
Awesome. Right back at ya!
Thanks for new ideas, but sounds to involved for me.
Yes. Anytime you introduce technology into a project it can get more complex. 😀
Hello April. I too am a left handed person who cuts with right handed scissors. Go figure. I love the way you sew. So genius.
I also am a lefty that uses scissors right handed.😊 Love your channel.
I am glad I am not the only one!
Hi April,
Now that’s neat! I like it…
Glad you like it!
Like thanks for sharing 😊
You are most welcome. And thank you for watching.
Will it fray if its poly?
That is an excellent question. We will find out. 😉
Poly will fray and it’s a fuzzy mess. Poly blend with cotton will be less.
