It was in the editing of this video that I could really appreciate the courage Stephanie had in speaking about failure. Unfortunately in this day and age, our misfortunes and missteps are out in public and archived on the internet. There are few short cuts to recovery. But I hope through all the wonderful comments you have left here, Stephanie knows that she is well loved by this community and she has so much to offer us all.
Thank you Karen and Stephanie for such an honest video discussing mental health issues. No doubt there will be many that this discussion will help. Mental health issues need to be normalized as health issues that many deal with - and need to seek help with. There should be no more shame for seeking help with our mental health than seeking help with a physical medical issue.
I just want to give Stephanie a hug! I can identify with a lot of what she said regarding anxiety. We often hold ourselves to such unrealistic standards and wonder why we have anxiety and depression. I'm so glad Stephanie has found help and is working on being healthy in mind and spirit. What an amazing creative! What an amazing journey. Life IS a journey and it isn't an easy one. Anyone who makes it seem easy isn't being honest.
I'm so glad to see Stephanie back in front of the camera. Sending every woman love and strength for the journey and wherever it takes you.
Thank you, Karen. I appreciate Stephanie being so open about her journey. ❤️
I've watched Stephanie for years and it was great to "see" her again!!! Enjoyed the interview so much!
I don’t consider your falling on hard times with your business a failure. I give Stephanie loads of credit for pursuing the business of quilting. Her creativity is amazing and I enjoy her UA-cam videos so much.
I don't either. I consider it just a season of life/world. There are no buggy shops anymore - it is just how the free market and the economy changes as what is happening around is changes.
She is very resilient. I used to watch her videos❤ I really admire her being able to slowly overcome her challenges.
Thankyou for interviewing Stephanie! Great interview. I am so happy to see that she has found a way to continue to contribute and keep her passion going.
I remember her video where she announced her downsizing. I felt so sad with her and frustrated that the state of the economy had played such a part in it while also feeling that the other side of what seemed like an insurmountable obstacle was going to be okay ... maybe different, but okay -- because it often is. Thank you, Karen, for having Stephanie on your channel.
Thank you Karen for interviewing Stephanie. I watched her with her ups and downs of the business and felt so bad when things fell apart for her. I really admire her and you for telling the truth, as we say, "telling on ourselves" in recovery. When I hear the ups and downs of people in their work I am so grateful that after 50 years of work I am retired and can just stay home and quilt and try to find my coffee in the morning!
Thank you Stephanie for being open about your depression episodes. The more it's talked about the less stigma it holds.
It’s so good to see Stephane again. I attended one of her quilting classes on 2018, and she brought me into the modern world of quilting thru this class. I am so grateful that she was there when I needed her. I still miss her storefront because her choices in fabric were many times, just what I needed. Stephanie, please know how much were/are appreciated and I’m always glad to see you on UA-cam.
Life has many of us struggling mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Thanks so much for doing this interview and thanks so much for being honest and open. Every day be like climbing a mountain to those of us who struggle and when you look fine, people think you are okay. Bravo. Your are fighting 3 times as hard to get done with you need to get done. That is one strong woman. Sending you good vibes for your future successes and next adventure.
I’ve watched Stephanie for years and although I would have loved to be a part of her monthly subscriptions, the shipping to Australia was prohibitive. I was heartbroken when I watched her bravely put together a video telling us she was closing down her shop and the monthly subscription. I do hope she gets back to being on top of her game, she is such a beautiful person. Thanks for the interview
i love Stephanie's books and patterns. I've made several of her patterns. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow. Her videos were especially helpful. I made one called "Ribbon Candy" and one called "Frequency". Both are beautiful quilts that I have given to people I love. Take care of yourselves and thank you, Stephanie for sharing your life, your love of quilts and your ability to teach me how to make a beautiful quilt!
Thank you Karen for allowing her the time to actually answer the questions. ❤ I’ve always loved Stephanie and I hate that she had to go thru these life experiences.
Karen thank you for having this conversation with Stephanie. This is one of my favourite episodes you have made. Stephanie thank you for sharing. Please know you are not alone.
Thank you for this episode, I wills show it to my daughter who suffers from depression. Your honesty is uplifting.
Congratulations Stephanie. One day at a time.
Hair and makeup plus aging is my nemesis! Good for you Karen to have this important conversation with Stephanie. Incredible!
Very funny about the 3/8" seam allowance. I had been sewing on my machine for 30 yrs but it wasn't until I started quilting that I found out I didn't know where the 1/4" seam allowance was. Assumed after all those years I knew. Quilting regularly keeps me humble after 50+ years of sewing.
I have learnt soooo much from both of you lovely ladies , thankyou ,l appreciated your time & effort with every thing , Australia
I love Stephanie. Do your best, and don’t worry about the rest. I struggle with anxiety and can relate. I think you are awesome.
good on you Stephanie, it's tough dealing with loss and grief, family stuff and financial issues and it's no wonder it all affects ongoing mental health challenges.
Conversations like this are so healthy and validating to share the way you do. Life happens, and challenges are inevitable. How we deal with them and manage to keep going forward can be really hard. Now I need to go look up her books. Thanks again for another great video.
I have alot faith in you, Stephanie! As painful as having one door close, another will open. Take care.
Oh Stephanie, thank you for your courage to share. We know the word 'challenge' wears thin pretty quuckly. All our best wishes 💗
Karen, thank you for interviewing Stephanie. I watched her UA-cam channel for years. On her channel now, Stephanie and her friend Chantal have a live about every two weeks, usually on a Friday night where they sit, sew and chat. It's quite fun to watch.
Thank you for this video!! I started watching Stephanie’s UA-cam channel just prior to covid and loved it and her. But women who want both a family and career (myself included) are extra challenged (even, Stephanie, if you have a supportive spouse) and we are setting ourselves up for failure as our society still doesn’t value the importance of child rearing and certainly doesn’t support the mothers who choose to stay home to do it full time, let alone those of us who also want a career. I wish you health and happiness but mostly Peace. You will reinvent yourself as you are super creative and motivated woman. Best of luck 👏👏👏
I so appreciate both you & Stephanies strength for sharing what so many struggle with-thank you both!
It was great to see and hear from Stephanie. Two years ago when I had rotator cuff surgery and couldn’t do anything except sit in my recliner, I discovered UA-cam and quilting channels. Two of the channels I watched were, Stephanie’s and yours, Karen. Although they weren’t my style at the time, I was very interested in seeing the fabrics and designers that Stephanie showcased. From you Karen, I learned that sometimes you have to pack up your sewing room to make room for the return of an adult child. That’s something I thought I would never have to do, but I’m doing it now. Our son lives about six hours away from us, and the small company he worked for laid off its employees after the loss of their main contract. Because he couldn’t find a job near his home, he started looking near us. He found a job here through a contract agency, and he and his small puppy will be arriving at the end of this week. So I not only need to make space for my son in a bedroom-turned-sewing-room, but my husband and I also need to puppy proof our house, which is not easy when I have my quilting supplies and machines spread throughout the house. My son will go home to see his wife on the weekends, and we’ll be puppy sitting until he feels confident that the puppy can handle a long train ride. I keep thinking that if Karen could do this, so can I.
Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only wackado who looked at bathroom tiles and saw potential quilts!🥰 Thank you so much for being your true self and sharing with us!❤️💕
Thank you Karen and Stephanie, so appreciate this conversation. Stephanie I really appreciate you. I check in and watch you often.
Stephanie, you had a 'closure' and are moving on to a new, fascinating chapter of your life! Enjoy!
Very good interview. I just recently found Quilt Addicts Anonymous on youtube and have enjoyed your videos. I didn't realize you had more. I will look into your books and patterns.
One thing you said in this video spoke to me and I am sure so many other women, especially moms, and that is that we can NOT have it all, most importantly all at once. I agree so much. Through the years women have been deceived into believing that "we can do anything" and that we can have it all at once. It can be pretty depressing when we try to do everything and realize we can't.
There are seasons in a woman's life. Each season can have successes but to put all seasons into one, and do it all at once, is extremely difficult, to impossible. It sounds like you have your priorities straight by putting your family first but also not neglecting yourself, and including God in your life. A mother does a lot for her family, taking care of them. It is a beautiful awesome calling but she needs to care for herself also. It's a balancing act in those precious years.
Praying God will continue to guide you in your journey.
Stephanie, I love your shade of lipstick and your makeup looks very smooth and light. Hope things turn around and you have more success in the weeks ahead. I've always like your videos. Thanks Karen for having her on.🥰😊
Thankyou , l have learnt sooooo much from you 2 lovely ladies Australia
Karen, I'm so glad you interviewed Stephanie too! Thank you. **hugs**
Stephanie, it was great to see and hear you chatting. I found your UA-cam channel when I first started dabbling in quilting, maybe 2019. (I have been sewing since middle school, about 60 years, making clothes for myself and dolls, toys, etc.) Anyway, wanting to learn all about quilting I relied on UA-camrs, and you helped me so much. Your Raspberry Sherbet Triangle Masterclass was wonderful and so very helpful! Glad to hear that you'll be making more videos. And by the way, you light up and sparkle when you talk about sewing with your daughter. 😊
It is so impressive to hear such an open discussion on mental health, but also a story of new starts and hopes.
Great interview Karen. I have followed Stephanie since I came across her while searching for ways to fold my fabric for best storage. Still use the method to this day. So happy to see her take care of herself and wish her much success on her comeback. Very courageous woman.
Depression is so difficult to deal with and it’s important to discuss it openly. I’ve been dealing with depression many years. I was so worried about my children’s lives being ruined because of my depression but they are all adults and married and parents and doing great. All 3 have told me that they are stronger and more compassionate towards others and themselves because of my strength to struggle through my mental health issues and never quitting.
Now I’m enjoying life with my grandkids and back to focusing on quilting in my retirement.
Thank you Karen ,Have watched Stephanie since she started video's, she helped me through most of sewing adventure. I have listened to her stories and watched Stephanie grow as a beautiful caring women .
I’ve watched Stephanie during COVID and after. She’s a lovely person and very relatable. I appreciate the both of you. ❤
Thank you so much for this interview.
Hi from South Australia-So happy to see Stephanie back I enjoy watching her
Thank you for this time. Well done.
Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed your videos. Good to see you again
The fabric and patterns I have from Stephanie are first class. I was sorry to hear that she was stepping back from the business, but didn't blame her, either. She's a good, honest teacher and I would always feel inspired by her UA-cam videos.
Happy Anniversary to Stephanie 😊
Thank you both for sharing the growth pains we all go through but tell no one! Stefanie I loved your work
Thank you for having this video, mine depression started with closing the long arm business to care for my mother (cancer) and then my sister (cancer) lost both six months apart. Now at 80 do I want to reopen-it's up and down. Thank you for the idea and thinking about writing.
Ive followed her for a long time, such a journey ❤❤❤
So much heart and soul in one interview. I have watched both of your channels for the last few years since I resumed sewing during the pandemic, making masks for friends and family and donations. I have made 2 baby quilts so far and I am working on a
quilt as you go t shirt quilt for my daughter. We went to lots of rock concerts while she was growing up so it is a memory blanket for us both. I appreciate your talking about mental health and I also subscribe to Mx. Domestic and have watched his journey too. I have learned a lot about quilting, sewing and acceptance of our own mental health issues and dealing with them, quilting helps. Much love to you, Stephanie and Mx. Domestic .Please keep doing what you do, so many of us need and appreciate it.
Thank you both
Thanks for this interview. I’ve been subscribed to her for a few years. I enjoy her channel.
Karen you are always, such a compassionate, understanding interviewer and again with Stephanie. It’s wonderful that you both have been able to maintain your creativity which so often is sacrificed when reaching out for help in dealing with life challenges to improve ones mental health. (I’m a fellow sufferer with a similar journey) It’s the small shifts in focus with better self acceptance that allows creative flow and continuity moving forward. There is no shame here! only more self empowerment, inner strength and joy which you both radiate. It inspires and spurs me on to immerse myself in each moment, soak it up and release the joy! be it quilting or playing with my dogs ! Love your online efforts immensely 👍🙏thank you🧵🪡✂️💜
Thanks for airing this interview.. Women feel we have to be perfect at everything. That is so unrealistic. I admire anyone that is willing to publicly admit that.
I participated in Stephanie’s quilt club
I looked forward to the bundles each month
She is a very creative, inspiring resource for those of us who quilt
Quilting is an therapy for all of us dealing with mental or health issues
I wish she would once in awhile do a utube program on quilting
Right now I’m interested in precuts - I love using all the variety of fabrics
Stephanie’s manor of presentation is excellent
I miss you Stephanie 😘
Thank you for sharing Stephanie’s successes and struggles. I had just found her a few months before she posted her video about giving up her business as it stood at the time. It was heartbreaking to me because so many businesses are being affected by our current economic climate. It is nice to hear, even in her difficult times she is pushing on and still doing some of the things she loves.
So good to see and hear from Stephanie Soebbing. I've bought WAY too much fabric from her and a member of her club for years. Thank you both and thank you both for your honesty. We dont have to be everything to everyone because we're women!
How incredible and inspiring and wonderfully open Stephanie is - heading over to check her UA-cam out. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Thank you for this conversation. It is so needed. I’m thankful that Stephanie is back in business, even tho it is in a different way. May both of you continue to bless us with your creativity. God bless you both.
I was so grateful for this interview! We love Stephanie and her channel and believe in her and we know she will get through this and be stronger than ever. Kudos to her strong, supportive husband. That is a blessing!
Very exciting..Two Thimbles quilt shop in Bellingham Wa. has mini prints, check it out. I live in BC and often would go there before the pandemic, just waiting to renew my passport and it will be the first place I hit when I go for a trip South of the border. I have also ordered online and they mailed me items, very efficient.
Thank you both very much.🌺
Such a great interview, Karen. I’ve really missed Stephanie and QAA, and it was so nice to see her. It was also good to hear about some of the ways she is coping with anxiety and depression. Good ideas for all of us. 😊 Thanks, Karen.
Stephanie, I first followed you when you wrote your column for the QC Times. Loved your quilt shop and your fabrics, spent a few dollars in your shop. Loved seeing your interview, your honesty is wonderful. Miss seeing you in person. Take care!
Oh gosh I think so many need to hear this. Thanks for the honest conversation 😊❤
Thank you yes things sure change
Thanks for sharing this with us. I also suffer from anxiety, and this has helped give me some hope! I am so happy to see you doing so well, Stephanie. Have missed you. Pat Berne
Excellant interview. Thank you Karen.
Stephanie keep the faith. You are a remarkable young woman! Gutsy and very talented!
I love her work and I hope she continues
What an incredible person to tell her story. Thanks for sharing. You are helping someone else out there who may be experiencing similar issues. Best of luck in your journey. Best of luck with your business.
Thank you, I used to follow her and wondered what happened. Thanks.
Stephanie and Karen were one of the first You tube I subscribed to.
Thank you for talking on this topic.
Wishing you all the best as you find healing. I’ve been dealing with mental health issues for most of my life, but severely so the past three years, and just got laid off yesterday, but one day at a time. I will be hand sewing EPP while I work out what’s next.
What an open and honest conversation. Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe I show that to folks who son't understand a downturne of mine.
Stephanie seems like a really lovely person. This video has given me hope for things I’m currently struggling with. I definitely plan to check out her videos! I hope she shows the Halloween costume made from garbage on her channel. How amazing that will be! I send my best to both of you and pray your ups will outnumber the downs. Thank you for this interview, Karen! 😘
Bought your book. Love it.
Karen, thank you for this interview with Stephanie. I want to say I really enjoy watching both of you lovely ladies. Stephanie, you have an amazing soul. I have enjoyed getting to know you thru being on the channel with you and Chantal. I have battled with depression for years. I am bipolar and have the manic highs and manic lows. It is a severe struggle. Thank you for sharing, the honesty is refreshing. Quilting has been a saving grace.
I just love Stephanie! I learned to quilt with her videos. I still go back to them when I don’t know how to do something. I’m so glad she is doing better. Thanks for having her on.
Thanks for a great interview! Love Stephanie!
Dear me, I thought this meant Stephanie was literally sobbing.
My apologies. Spellcheck is not always in my favour
I enjoyed this video. I actually did her first king size block of the month. I enjoyed it but I couldn't continue because life took me in another direction. I am glad to see that she is moving forward. Unfortunately, setbacks are a big part of life. I really did feel her pain. I am looking forward to getting her panel quilt book because I have a lot of panels! LOL
I think it was good for Stephanie to know when it was time to quit the business. That is something that is never taught. Also...would have been interesting to hear how she is replacing the income she had during the business. Is it her YT channel and patterns - by themselves? Are the books continuing to give revenue? I hadn't heard of Stephanie until the YT algorithm decided I needed to see one of her videos back when she was deciding to first downsize and then let go. This must have been a hard episode. I am so glad she is able to find some sewing that is not deadline or "money" related. It really is fun to just sew things for yourself or family. It would be an interesting episode, Karen, to talk about hobbies for quilters who make money with quilting/YT or anything like that...what kinds of things do they do? It is hard for self employed people to take a break and spend time on themselves and giving space from the business - no matter whether it is making videos, vlogging, blogging, writing patterns, selling fabrics, selling yourself (as a speaker, etc.).
Stephanie you are much admired and I always found your show on utube great! I'm sorry I wasn't able financially to support your work but hopefully one day☝️🩷. Keep Speaking about mental health . I would love to hear you on The Science of Happiness show! Wishing you all the best🙏💗
Hi Stephanie. Miss you!
Thank you. It took a lot of courage for Stephanie tp share such personal info. I am so happy to see feeling better. It's alo g journey, but i hope she will come thru with flying colors.
I loved Fons and Porter. And Alex Anderson
Wonderful video - thank you both. Best wishes for a fabulous future. ❤️😁🌹
Some days, just getting out of bed is such an effort. Pyjamas rule.
Excellent interview
Stephanie ,will be looking for you book ,sounds just what I need to go again , been a bit hard getting back into sewing .
Wow. I am across the river in Iowa
Women are their own worst enemies and some other women are our worst critics. Familial and societal expectations are also not always helpful. Sometimes there is no correct way to be, just the right way for you.
Off topic but your hair looks so cute
