- Ive decided to take the Marlin out of the safe for a cleaning after long term storage, however before I could even get started and didn't plan on including in the video, I noticed rubber rot on the scope. Having tried a couple of ways to remove this, 100% IPL does a great job to remove this film from plastic parts leaving a satin finish.
Having resolved that issue, the disassembly of the Marlin begins. checking of course that the rifle is unloaded and then having removed the bolt. I have opted in this case for complete firing pin disassembly, not often conducted. However, this being long term storage, was the correct thing to do. Inspection of the firing pin and bolt parts showed everything to be in perfect order, everything was reassembled back as one bolt unit.
The rifle is now disassembled from the stock with two screws. Inspecting the trigger mechanism, cleaning and oiling these areas. Then the bore is cleaned with a bore brush. Everything gets a light oil and the stock is reassembled to the rifle. Then the bolt and scope is reintroduced onto the rifle.
This concludes the services of the Marlin Rifle.
I have owned this rifle for about 10 years and I have never found a video so detailed into the breakdown cleaning and maintenance of this rifle. It seems pretty easy to do it myself ! Thank you so much for making this video !!!
Yeah, they made it about impossible to port this video, surprised you found it.,
That is not an xt-22. It is a 981t. The bolt on the xt-22 is nowhere near as easy to disassemble and reassemble as it is on this 981t.
Thank you! I was wondering why my xt22 does not have a loading rod under the barrel.
Awaiting UPS delivery today of a magazine-fed XT-22. Very good video and I appreciate your clear and concise tutorial. Thank you.
Glad I could help.
Did enjoyed your video. Most informative about cleaning the mighty XT-22.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the in-depth instructions. My questions may sound a little weird, but I am newbie in rifles and want to know every detail of it. I have this same rifle and when cleaning the bolt mechanism, the firing pin has a little space to go side to side, horizontally. I guess this little space is left intentionally, however I wonder is it ok when firing pin can move side to side within the pin frame? Does it affect firing in general?
Its a rimfire and is setup in this way by design.
Right when you pull the slide out and twist and pull apart what do I do if it don’t pull apart
Hi, I have an XT-22 that has about 300 rounds on it the bolt seems a little stiff anyone have any ideas on making it smoother?
What oil are you using for the bolt?
Remoil
@@retrotechandelectronics cool thanks, I was cleaning my 22 while watching the video and my brush rod broke lol.
not a xt-22.
It would be easier to throw that scope in the trash and get a decent one.
Haha…
