Oh my gosh, I always thought they sang something about how "the end of the millennium is here", but according to this comment it's "in the end they'll be the only ones there" ! Mind blown...
I'd give anything just to experience a slice of life when this song came out back in 1997 again. This was the soundtrack of that Summer - those red hot Summers that seemed to last a lifetime when you' were a kid. Young, carefree and happy days - long gone. We didn't know how good we had it guys!
@Danny Russell they are not Mormons.. they are Evangelical Christians.. biiiiggg difference. Thats why they grew up to be such grounded amazing people. They were raised with a faith in Christ. 👍
As far as any of us know, of course. A religious background sounds nice, however. I've met and know a huge amount of great religious people, even people who aren't specifically practicing anymore.
This song is by far my favorite Hanson song. Takes me back to my high school days. I'm 43 yrs old and I'm still enjoying Hansons vocals. Forever a fan!!
i'm brazilian, i said exactly that today to my 14 year old niece. This song was a success in the world at a time when there was no youtube. Hanson was a fever in Brazil in my childhood.
I feel like those of us that find it painful to listen to music from our childhood remember it a lot more vividly than others do and most of the time that means we're still in touch with our inner child as adults. So don't get too down, you survived adulthood.
I keep reading “ I’d give anything to return to my childhood.” And it’s true. So kids, make the most out of life. Your parents won’t be around forever and so will your friends. Cherish, enjoy, and make the most out of every day. I’m 41 and I didn’t even notice where all the time went. It still feels like a blur. I wish for you all a healthy, happy life.
These lyrics hit harder and harder the older you get. When I was a kid and this song came out it was just a doobididoo song to me. I'm 36 now, wife and kids, and the lyrics put me in an existential mood. All time great song
so many friends have disappeared, relationships come and gone, hair is going gone, listening to this again and realising how deep and true it always was
The repeated use of "MMMbop" in the section we will hereby refer to as the "chorus" was both pleasantly enticing to the listeners ear and also reminiscent of childhood innocence combined with an authentic appreciation for being alive in the moment with a care-free attitude.
+Chrisna 1311 Its really deep song. These guys written this song, when the youngest one was only 12 years old! By THEMSELVES! It becomes popular all over the World! Today era off Adele, Gaga, Bieber... Adele become the best singer and took platinum album. And what? Hanson's album was 3 times platinum? Don't like today's music - too simple and stupid. Except few groups.
+євгенія щеснюк I honestly never understood why so many people made fun of the band and the song. Better song than soooo many other songs that have come along, and as you point out, they were very young when they wrote this. Others must just be so very jealous. This sort of song just can't help but make you tap your toes to it
Not me. I grew up listening to Hanson. I had a crush on the youngest, Zach. I had the posters, the fan books, the pop magazines with them on the cover. I had the cassette then later the CD. I watched them on MTV and sang mmmbop relentlessly. Those were the good old days. Yeah theyre definitely boys btw 😂 lol
This song is so calm and soothing that whenever I feel disturbed I listen to it and find instant solace.Thank you Hanson brothers for such a wonderful number.May you guys always stay happy, blessed and united with your families and keep gifting us such marvellous numbers
You have absolutely no idea how popular this song was in the late 90's. I think it broke all sorts of records in being number 1 on MTV and across the world. It was so fresh at the time and that hook is just legendary! It might seem cheesy now but it was absolutely Massive in the day. Miss my childhood
Salute to all 80's and 90's kids who grew up with this song, so wholesome, and specially heart filling when you feel a little sad, it really lifts the spirits!!
@@BoiiBlu No its not, its talking about when you go through hard times who will still be there and who will leave you when times get tough. It says so hold on to the ones who really care in the end they will be the only ones there so you are wrong.

I remember I was probably 10 years old in 1997-98 asking for this song to be played, the older kids laughed but I know deep down they loved this song too. Definitely miss the 90’s growing up.
I was 20 years old when this came out and could not understand why everyone was so nuts about it. But now it makes me nostalgic for more carefree days. The world is just a disaster now.
@@hanab837 I was just 7 and felt the same way at the time, hahah; I couldn’t stand this song. Man, looking back now, this was a surprisingly peaceful time compared to the insanity happening now.
‘So hold onto the ones who really care, in the end they’ll be the only ones there.’ - never were truer lyrics written . This song and it’s meaning carries way more relevance in 2021 than it did in 1998.
The older I get the more I appreciate this song.. when it came out I thought it was just a kids boy band catchy hit.. absolute masterpiece. Way ahead of it’s time
I just wish they'd sang the song where the lyrics were.......understandable. I remember when this debuted & maybe half a dozen words were understandable. No Internet then, not quite yet. Younger generations will never know the frustration of not knowing the words to songs! :)
Same here, just now! It's funny how I could hardly understand a word yet now I can see the lyrics it's quite easy to understand them. Superb song, and what a sound!
@@Lizziesouth Well I got a horrible confession to make lol. When they first came out I was jealous of them would not listen to them I'm 37 now and I look back and think man I was an idiot. I listen to them almost everyday now been a fan since 2020.
"What that song talks about is, you've got to hold on to the things that really matter. MMMbop represents a frame of time or the futility of life. Things are going to be gone, whether it's your age and your youth, or maybe the money you have, or whatever it is, and all that's going to be left are the people you've nurtured and have really built to be your backbone and your support system." - Zac H Damn... didnt appreciate how deep the song really is
I totally agree on the depth of this song and I do like it but, reading the lyrics, I wondered how could 3 kids under 16 years old actually KNOW this yet?
Maybe they're mom or dad or someone left? Kids have a much deeper, more innate sense of truth than you realize. I mean, I doubt they wrote those lyrics by themselves. But then again, they were actually quite good playing their instruments, singing, etc. They had talent.
I'm 60 yrs old-- just a great happy song---GREAT to dance to!! Yep, yes sir, we Live to dance to songs that SWALLOW you up--this makes the Grade!!!!!!!

I remember calling into the radio and requesting this song! My sister and I would have blank cassette tapes and record us singing this song while still trying to time it when it was going to come on the radio! Oh my goodness the 90s were full of so much creativity and imagination. Take me back please!!! 😍
Technology should have stayed the way it was, it didn't need to go this far, everyone walking around now like a zombie staring at their phones, social media and all of this crap. It killed creativity, imagination and turned people into assholes.
@@jessylei Maybe one day in the future kids will find a way to put down their social media apps, games, and devices, and we'll just go back to swinging on trees & having a good time. Maybe one day we'll even find a good way to do both. I'm hopeful

The lyrics is not very difficult...
Wow, strip away the gibberish and that's a decently-written chorus or two
I tried to sing but then I failed at "Oh" cause the lyrics here lacks one "oh" before the "yeah". I think I need to practice 999x more.
The future we are going to build for ourselves is going to be better than anything in the past. Trust!
Such a feel-good song with surprisingly deep lyrics
These kids must have had amazing parents because they turned out so chill and grounded and seem genuinely happy.
That's what I thought. I wish I had kids like them. 😁
@@Clubeleza Come to Amsterdam ;)
@Danny Russell they are not Mormons.. they are Evangelical Christians.. biiiiggg difference. Thats why they grew up to be such grounded amazing people. They were raised with a faith in Christ. 👍
As far as any of us know, of course. A religious background sounds nice, however. I've met and know a huge amount of great religious people, even people who aren't specifically practicing anymore.
@@puckered6036 A faith in God or any deity does not always guaranty anything. Sure it's one path but not the only one.

This song is by far my favorite Hanson song. Takes me back to my high school days. I'm 43 yrs old and I'm still enjoying Hansons vocals. Forever a fan!!
I'm 54 and still lovin' it!! Though the diction is somewhat choice...lol. Though like you say, the classic chorus is clear as a bell. 💜
They also do a sublime version of a Bee Gees song, from some concert ( you'll have to Google it) xx
They have other songs?😂😂 This was the only one I heard at the skating rink
Same age buddy. Greeting from Malaysia

A nod to a time less stressful and carefree. For me at least. The nostalgia almost brings a tear to my eye.
This song was so massive when it came out. If UA-cam was around then it would’ve been 1B for sure
Definitely 👍
Yesssssss
i'm brazilian, i said exactly that today to my 14 year old niece. This song was a success in the world at a time when there was no youtube. Hanson was a fever in Brazil in my childhood.
Agree!
They should release the remake!
It reminds me of my childhood. Sometimes it hurts to listen to this, but it makes me smile at the same time. ♥️♥️
I feel the same! :D
I feel like those of us that find it painful to listen to music from our childhood remember it a lot more vividly than others do and most of the time that means we're still in touch with our inner child as adults. So don't get too down, you survived adulthood.
The nostalgia is Killing me! 😢
Love this still and I'm 64. It still lifts my spirits. Brilliant song.
Same. I was at that perfect age when this song came out, a little teeny bopper 😂 But i'm 37 now and this song still gets me, I love it!!
😂
61 and I completely agree.
Exactly!
All of us ferl the same am 39 yo now and song just hits so hard all the memories and good old days
so many friends have disappeared, relationships come and gone, hair is going gone, listening to this again and realising how deep and true it always was
Same. Literally only just saw the lyrics. Didn’t know they had such meaning haha
Same, and hope you're doing good brother!
The repeated use of "MMMbop" in the section we will hereby refer to as the "chorus" was both pleasantly enticing to the listeners ear and also reminiscent of childhood innocence combined with an authentic appreciation for being alive in the moment with a care-free attitude.
Damn you're young, dude.
So deep, you can see Adele rolling in it.
+Chrisna 1311 hahahaha
This sort of song just can't help but make you tap your toes to it
There’s nothing more 90’s than this song.
@Ethan Hunt Everyone did.

"What that song talks about is, you've got to hold on to the things that really matter. MMMbop represents a frame of time or the futility of life. Things are going to be gone, whether it's your age and your youth, or maybe the money you have, or whatever it is, and all that's going to be left are the people you've nurtured and have really built to be your backbone and your support system." - Zac H

I totally agree on the depth of this song and I do like it but, reading the lyrics, I wondered how could 3 kids under 16 years old actually KNOW this yet?
Maybe they're mom or dad or someone left? Kids have a much deeper, more innate sense of truth than you realize.
