  • Who knew Wyoming had such wild landscapes outside of their famous national parks? I sought out Fremont Canyon for a day trip paddle and was absolutely blow away by the geology.

    We camped out there years ago, but didn't have a chance to see the canyon like this. So beautiful! Good to know about the changes in the inflatable with the changes in temperature...we didn't know about that and it may just help us in the future! Adam recently read The Emerald Mile and loved it and after hearing your thoughts on rivers, lakes, and dams, he highly recommends it if you haven't read it yet!

      Oh cool! Where were y'all camped at? Lots of great campgrounds and BLM spots all over there. The pressure change through me for a loop! Just bought a K Pump mini on Amazon to bring with me on trips so that it doesn't happen again. Kinda scary! I'll check out the Emerald Mile, sounds like a good listen. Always interesting to hear perspectives about rivers, lakes, and dams. Hope y'all have been well!

    Hey Gatewood!
    Epic ride through the canyon! Stunning!
    Just a, "this what we do", fyi, we live over on the western side of Texas so the wind is never relentless so when kayaking, on winding lakes or rivers we use a tie down ski rope. Tie it to the bow of the boat and than the other end to the side strap of our live vest. We make sure that the slack runs down the floor of the yak from the bow & under our leg (of the side you tie to your life vest) so that in the event of a flip our leg is less likely to entangle in the rope. We take a separate shorter tie down to attach our Remote Designs back pack to the yak so we don't lose it. Keep paddling! God bless with safety & adventure.

    I love watching your videos - so inspired to go kayak camping! Have you ever used an Oru kayak or would you consider reviewing one? Asking cause I bought one thinking it would make it easier to go and I’m curious if you think it could handle something like this trip.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  18 днів тому +1

      Thanks, Wazoo! Ya know I have hesitations for any sit in kayak if you're solo paddling. I always like having a sit on top in or self bailing inflatable so if I flip or take a wave over the bow, I'm fine. In a sit in kayak if you're out in the middle and you flip, ya gotta swim everything to shore which is near impossible. I'd also have reservations about the ORU and its durability, an inflatable would be my choice for packable options. This Nyce Nugget fits in a suitcase so I can go on vacation with it, pretty sweet!

    • @Tokahfang
      @Tokahfang 18 днів тому +1

      The majority of Oru kayak models are not made for open water like this with the possibility of big waves. They are nearly impossible to get back into on the water, and even hard to swim to shore without adding float bags. Unless you're talking about their equivalent to a sea kayak, skirt, bomber roll, and all, deffo not.
      Source: I am both a river guide and a happy Oru recreational kayak owner. Every paddle craft is for some set of conditions, and things go wrong when you take them outside those conditions.
