    This video sold me on subscribing. When I was your age, I did this sort of thing. Was my favorite hobby. I have owned 36 different cars since I was 15 years old. Only bought one of them as new.

    Love the Neon. And now you can rest assured it has better paint on it than when it left the factory. So many makes had the same peeling problems with water based paint.
    Thanks for the video, very enjoyable.
    I always swore my 63 Valiant had been painted with house paint when I got it. Factory red, Earl Scheib beige, refrigerator white then One Day Paint Antique White it's been wearing for 17 years now that still looks respectable.

    • @dvaeogreg5557
      @dvaeogreg5557 7 років тому

      No problem. The industry had to change paint formulas to meet EPA factory emissions regulations. Lots of Corsicas and Grand Ams out there with the same look.
      Moar videos !!!! That Neon looks clean and respectable now. And I thought the lip video was a clever use of garden supplies.
      It's a sickness and you've got it. Enjoy.

    I did my truck 1 1/2 years ago in similar fashion and just ONE coat of rust-oleum (black) and i did not "water" it down.
    It withstand winter, summer you name it however it's now fading a bit (sun light) so will be doing your method if thinning it down and multiple coats. And i will bondo the small dents it got on my cab....
    Cool project and well done..

    Nice job man! I've been wanting to try spraying my car with rustoleum seeing as it has a decent but sub par paint that is experiencing some issues. Good to see a quality video, most leave alittle to be desired.

    I just did the rustolrum roll on job on my truck. White is very forgiving, satin black is probably the best. Anything with “gloss” written on it comes out blotchy.
    White primer first, that stuff doesn’t stick as well as you would hope.

    I appreciate the effort you went to making these videos. One note though, certain paints shouldn't be shaken as it causes bubbles to form. Overall good tutorials.

      Just an update on my car I decided to scrap the roller altogether and am going with a high density sponge instead padding it on. It seems to produce a bit smoother results in my case, I was working in 80 degree temperatures and my attempts to smooth out the edges between rolled areas went disastrously. Perhaps I didnt have enough thinner mix ratio (using 50% mineral spirits/ 50% paint) but I think because it was really warm even my attempt to lightly smooth the areas I had just painted dried fast enough to leave imperfections which I'll have to go and do a lot of sanding on down again, as in like back to the beginning stage. After getting frustrated I broke out the high density sponge only lightly dipping it into the remaining paint and added more diluter and just started pressing it against a test area that hadn't been painted yet and just kept pressing the sponge until the sponge was dry and as mentioned I got a more uniform result in the end with that method. Still in the process with the rest of the car, let you know how that goes.

    You got to take it easy on that hyperlapse and music dude. All I want to see is how you roll it on and how you mix it

  • @AngryJesus
    @AngryJesus 7 років тому

    I've heard of some guys doing this, but it seems like they always use white paint. I assume it's because it hides a lot of the imperfections. Would you say the finish from the roller is better than a well done rattle can job?

    Did you have any issues a few months down the line with the paint peeling off due to different weather conditions and temperatures?

    if it is cold acetone is probably fine but it will dissolve most plastics given enough time, I am going to spray my truck with a similar paint but I don't know if i will use a1 kerosene or lacquer thinner (acetone) I guess i should test both.

    Hey man, great videos! Of all the rustoleum paint job tutorials this one has been the most useful to me, very thorough, nice pacing, good editing, I hope this channel picks up, I definitely want to see more DIY car projects, I am always doing these sorts of things! I'll be doing this to my 02 Focus next week. One question though, did you notice any orange peel in the paint after your fourth coat? If so, what would you suggest for dealing with it? Im thinking a light wet sanding and maybe buffing?
    Thanks!

    cool vid but i think u could have thrown on some less gay jams lol...also instead of using the rollers they do have some dyi electric sprayers on amazon or ebay...there the ones with the vacuum motor hose and spray can check them out there like no more than 50 if u want better quality work or add clear coat...smh but dont use a roller it leaves orange peel like crazy and the results just are not worth it....but hey pratice and experimenting makes perfect.
