You should hear Geoff's version of 16 Tons! When Geoff does his own songs he does use minimal and highly effective background music. I refer to his multiple voices as the Geoffettes. Another fan calls them the Geofftones.

Welcome to the Geoff (Voiceplay) rabbit hole. Geoff has a 5 octave range. Be sure to explore more. His latest is God rest Ye Merry Gentlemen but don's stop there. Happy Holidays

I think Geoff set YOUR hair on fire!! I love your astonishment at his range. The man is possibly one of the most talented singers alive. He is also such a talented arranger.

You probably couldn't hear us giggling when you stopped at his first low-ish (for him) note. Trust me, we were. Really appreciate your reaction; Geoff is phenomenal. He just dropped God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen a week or so ago, Sixteen Tons is his most viewed so far. For Voiceplay, go with Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3, then Warriors or Carry On Wayward Son. Their lineup has changed in the last 18 months, so you will see different people in the older ones.

I would also suggest Geoffs new cover of Monster Mash, just released back in October or Take me Home, Country Road or from 2020, Geoffs version of The Headless Horsemen, which has everyone going 'Whoah!'

  • @martinhafner2201

Geoff has a system in his solo videos. He spawns a new Geoff for each layer he is singing. No weird electronics, just a very long campaign to get more range and especially control in his lower range.

Check out his most recent “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” and also some of my personal favorites are “Sixteen Tons” and “The Headless Horseman”. I promise he does not disappoint!

Check VP's version of "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl." Layne often pushes Geoff to do things Geoff thinks he can't.... and Layne arranged that one. Layne's little smirk just before the end is the only warning of what is about to happen...

Your smile when Geoff goes to the top of his register was priceless. After all those lows, I’m always shocked at the quality of his high notes! All the song suggestions are great. Can’t go wrong-Geoff and Voiceplay ALWAYS deliver.

  • @candilunsford2878
    @candilunsford2878 2 роки тому +41

His lowest note is a B0, which is just one white key from the end of a piano keyboard. He does it in VoicePlay's Halo theme. His signature is the E1, which he hits here. That's 5 white keys from the end. He has a 5 octave range and his low chest voice is so impressive, and then there are the subharmonics. He's amazing. He arranges all of his solo stuff himself, and half of VoicePlay's and he's a master at it. Try Hoist the Colours and Wicked to hear his best with VP and his latest solo Christmas drop. Seriously, just pick anything an you'll love it. To hear him as a bank of subwoofers listen to VP's Friends On the Other Side from The Princess and the Frog. It's at the end of the song and you'll forget that there are no instruments at all--just his bass and Layne's vocal beatboxing--it's off the rails.

16 Tons, Blackbirds, Monster Mash, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Bare Necessities, and Country Roads. He plays mining tools in 16 Tons, the keyboard in Blackbirds, and does the Monster Mash in, you guessed it, Monster Mash!

Everything from him is good! 😁 You could just take a pick. He’s only put out music on his solo channel for about a year and a half, so there’s not so much yet (12 songs, a number of short story/poem recitations and some singing tutorials). However, one suggestion is his newest song, “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”. Or if you’re not into Christmas music, his “16 tons”. And for VoicePlay “Hoist the Colours” and “If I were a Rich Man/Girl”.

Yes he has that effect on people. You get used to it. Sort of. His cover of Blackbird shows pretty much his full range. :) He's been workng on his low range for a long time, it takes practise to get that good. :) And his voice is just the start, his arranging skills are equally impressive. Oh and he's pretty too. And nice. So nice. It seems unfair doesn't it?

I remember when The Animals did this on American Bandstand in the '60s. Geoff's arrangement is brilliant. Always enjoy the Geoff Quartet or sometimes his Quintet. Loved this reaction and Geoff is always amazing! I see a lot from other comments about some songs that show off a lot of his low note. I would like to recommend “High and Dry” or even “Oggie boogie” song from voiceplay! Those really show his upper range. Cant wait for more!

  • @DavideBaroni

My favourites from him "solo" are Sixteen Tons, Blackbird and Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold (and his new release, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen). As for his work with Voiceplay, personally I like a lot Hoist the Colours, Halo Theme, My Mother Told Me, Wicked Medley, Friends on the Other Side and those from Nightmare Before Christmas (Oogie Boogie Song and This is Halloween). But as many others pointed out, just pick one, they're all good. :-)

Don't know how I missed this when you released it, but delighted to watch it now. Great reaction. I've watched Geoff so often that his range no longer shocks me - but what I can't stop reacting to is the sheer beauty of his tone. And while I'm sure he always had a great voice, what he talks about is years of recording himself, 70 times a day, tossing them all because the tone wasn't "right." He's absolutely dedicated to his art as a craft to be mastered. So, beauty plus the creativity and chops to make gorgeous arrangements - that's what does it for me. Every song. Have fun exploring. (liked/subscribed)

You really need to hear his cover of Misty Mountains, the dwarves song from The Hobbit. As with many of his solo works, he clones himself and harmonizes with himself. That one got him the nickname of Dragon Slayer. 16 Tons is still one of my favorites. He has tutorials on singing this low. He works really hard to achieve this. He classified himself as a baritone with a bass range. When younger, he wanted to be a a rock tenor. He has a five octave range.

16 tons is a definite listen to. There is also a compilation of Geoff's best low notes on here. With voiceplay songs that his notes hit rock bottom are in my mother told me, hoist the colours and especially the Halo theme. (among others of course) I've subscribed in anticipation of hearing more.

Blackbird, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, 16 Tons, High and Dry, Till Then (brand new and beautiful), Way Down, Big Bad John, Ghostriders in the Sky and then there is the rest of the group - VoicePlay. Check out Hoist the Colours, In the Hall of the Mountain King, The Dragonborn Comes, Halo, We're Good, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, Friends on the Other Side, Queen in 5 Minutes, Wicked, Little Mermaid, Warriors, Dream On, Carry On My Wayward Son and so very much more. VoicePlay and Geoff's solos fans are voracious consumers of their music and if you will react to it, we will be here. I recognize most of the people who have commented so far. Geoff has some great solo work like "Blackbird" and the group work with Voiceplay like "If I Were a Rich Boy/Girl".
If you want to hear range in one of Geoff's friends, I suggest another a cappella group, Home Free. I would love to see two songs in one reaction - "Brothers in Arms" and "Mayday". It's the same lead singer at the beginning of both songs although his hair is shorter and grayer in "Brothers in Arms". If you won't do them together, hold off on "Mayday" until you know the group member names and roles.

Geoff doesn't have any bad solo material. Take your pick. He uses just a single voice on High And Dry. He has The American Sirens as guest artists on Mele Kalikimaha. Pretty much everything else, he multitracks himself, does 4 or even 5 parts.

Voiceplay's Little Mermaid Medley . He sings as Ursula. Yeah. Not a spoiler, he's painted blue from the beginning. Definitely two that don't get enough play are We're Good and I've Got Friends on the Other Side. Hoist the colors is good overall, Carry on Wayward Son. And of course the infamous Oogie Boogie Song, the song fromThe Nightmare Before Christmas. What, to be honest, set his and Voiceplay's popularity soaring.
When it comes to solo work, Blackbird, Far O'er The Misty Mountain Cold (from Hobbit), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen....
You can honestly just pick one from the last 3 years or so and you'll be hard pressed to find a song that even if you didn't like the song, you can at least appreciate the technical prowess himself and the rest of the group exhibit on every showing.
