  • Center Console boats have often been considered only for offshore or flats fishing. Just like everything else, they have evolved. Although Center Consoles have pros and cons, they may surprise you with how comfortable and versatile they have become. Whether you fish hard core, love to cruise and play, or need transportation on the water, this boat segment should not be ignored. In this video we will cover:
    0:00 Intro
1:00 Pros of Center Console Boats
3:37 Cons of Center Console Boats
4:24 Offshore vs. Bay Boat Center Console
5:07 Current popular Center Console Brands

Another cool thing in some of the newer CC boats are consoles that open up. This allows easy access to wiring and the space can be used for changing and hold a porta-pottie.

I have only had 3 boats. One of them was a aluminum bow rider fishing boat. One was a old MFG 16' fiberglass boat and my new to me 1998 Bayliner trophy 1903 CC. I love this Trophy. Self bailing fiberglass deck wich is important in Florida when we get our daily dumping of rain and it can handle most everything our large lakes can throw at me. It's by far the easiest boat to run wires in under her deck. There are access hatches at key points in the boat that allow you to run wires or work on stuff under the deck and in the gun whales. Granted you have to be a contortionist to get to some stuff but it's doable.

You bet! Do you own a center console or just love boating?

@@boatinglessons i own one and love it! ("Aquaforce" 18 footer.)
First of "ease of manufacture" is why made and made in only two types buy two important types: one is deep displacement for more security in the water and what I own which has a low freeboard but wide gunnels for walking around on the exterior so as not to impede those on the interior. Definitely pays to shop around as there are so many on the market.
The best by far is the mass market Yamaha going on forever now which uses a jet ski motor and ditches the outboard. A little pricier but more than worth it for "regular"(not off-shore) use.

@@boatinglessons I just recently sold a 25' Pursuit cuddy cabin walk around because we were not using the cabin and I wanted more room to do walk around fishing. I'm in no rush to buy yet, so I'm just checking out videos and stuff.

Nice vid! Funny to see the differences between us and european centerconsoles, here they have the most space for people to sit comfortably, look at for example Ranieri CC’s !

Sea Vee, Yellowfin, Cape Horn, Sailfish, and Regulator are really great CC v-hull offshore boats. Nothing equals Freeman CC catamarans, IMO, for offshore duty. But... you gotta have the jack, Jack.

I see them on the great lakes, great for walleye fishing.

Midnight Express, Nor-Tec, MTI, Cigarette and HCB. All are excellent Center consoles, which have lots of seating, small cabins, heads, and are also excellent for fishing. Then there's Intrepid, Yellowfin, Robalo, Cobia and Blackwater, which are primarily fishing boats with excellent creature comforts as mentioned above. You also have the Freeman line, which are center console catamarans that are primarily fishing, but also great creature comforts.

Those first five are not exactly within financial reach of the vast majority of people. And let's be honest; who in the hell buys a Midnight Express, Cigarette, or MTI for fishing? I'm willing to bet that most ME's have never seen a fish on board. I would add Key West, Sportsman, Pioneer, and Contender to your second list.

Grew up on the St Lawrence River where storms come up quickly and the temperature is often cool. I can see a center console in Southern Florida where is usually warm but not in the North Country. I need weather protection.

So for a 20,000 acre lake a bay boat might be better if you are needing to get back into shallow areas?

Good for fishing but I dislike sitting all exposed up high on a perch. Love the dual console seating where you have more lounging comfortable seats. I'm not sitting out there with the whole world to see, and if I don't have a backrest I'm out for sure

In 2020, the highest selling vessels were CtrConsoles & PWCs… (I would imagine most of which were from Floridians)

    I have a key west 1720 and a
    Bayliner Cierra 2355
I prefer the Bayliner for fishing the lower Chesapeake bay, CBBT, and off the coast of VB.
The key west is better on the rivers and Back River Bay

I would think a flats style boat. Low sides and low draft. Let me know where you are and I can make some brand recommendations if you want. sean@lenscove.com

Robalo has gone to junk. Viewed two of them to find a lot of qc issues. Gel coat issues, wiring issues and striped bolts etc. sad it was a nice boat.
