- Vail VR is a total failure, and in this review I explain why I believe that's the case. Technical issues, Fake reviews...I was extremely disappointed and I wanted to warn you, hoping I'll make you save £24.99...
EDIT: I was contacted by the developers after this video. Technical issue of wobbly view can be solved disabling or uninstalling OpenXR Toolkit. Apparently this resolves also crashing...or at least I was able to play 10 minutes without crashing while testing with OpenXR Toolkit disabled. Nevertheless, my point stands about the game in general.

i didn't have any issues on PCVR Steam version? Even the quest version was really good for being a quest version!
Personally, I've really liked this game. It's a refinement of some of my favorite aspects of contractors and pavlov. But that being said, it does feel rather surface level despite the esports thing they're going for. Even though I've put dozens of hours in so far, unless they add or change a lot of whats there, I don't see it being a shooter i put 100+ hours in unlike Pavlov or Contractors. The progession system is great, and I might get one or two of my favorite guns gold and then leave for something else. The guns are some of the most satisfying I've used, but they have a lot to elaborate on until I really consider sinking my teeth in for more.
Yes. I liked the progression system and surely the game has positive aspects. But at the moment isn’t worth my time.

The wobbly view is normally oculus crashing.
I have had this issue on many other vr games.
Most of the time it just happens out of nowhere and I end up having to restart oculus link.
I don’t use oculus. I use VD. Resolved the problem disabling OpenXR toolkit for this game.
Just got to the part of the video were yo mentioned it being virtual desktop.
Tbh I'm not even sure I always used oculus link and It seems to have that issue every now and then.
@@ChilledRythm man I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️ to be honest I have very little time in the evening and normally I don’t really want to spend time troubleshooting and try to make a game work. Nevertheless the technical issue was the easy part to fix. Now they have to find a way to make the game more interesting and more original…plus they need to reduce the price, because £25 for what it’s in there is a bit too steep in my view. I would have been softer in my review if the price was £10-15…but it is what it is.

Fair... I was thinking the same thing game has nothing new to really offer the only good thing is being able to jump into a lobby fast and play and the gun handling is good but thats it lol. But fair review.
Thank you. At least I know I am not crazy 😅 I don’t hate the game, but the asking price of £25 and the fake reviews really triggered me and it looked another cash grab. So I wanted to warn people about it.
I got to play the VAIL VR early access, I enjoyed the early access. It was fun and intuitive. Full release drops and the gameplay was significantly worse. It felt like a completely different game.

I'm playing standalone Q3 and not having any issues not sure why you having yours but it's sad ylthat you aren't enjoying it. Hope you can sort your issues and maybe enjoy it next time ❤
My issues are on the PCVR version, which was downgraded compared to the early access I played a year ago and enjoyed…although I thought there was nothing revolutionary…
Same here, game got me playing at least a couple hours a day even after hitting level 50 and getting gold on my favorite gun. Sad to see people (rightfully) writing it off because of issues they have with crashing, But I’ve never had any experiences like that.
@trout2449 developers contacted me to try to resolve the technical issues. However those are not the only things, unfortunately. The game is average…but marketed like the ultimate fps shooter. If you enjoy though, good for you, honestly.
@VRDaD yes well that's more personal preference it maybe the ultimate for some users for me it's a great fps with realism mechanics 😊
@VRDaD I agree, the pc version is glitchy which needs to be fixed. Which it all will in good time, after all they did just switch to UE5. I agree, they spend a lot of time on less important stuff BUT it's because most of the community who play vail either play Quest or have a godly pc and wifi / ethernet

I play on my quest three and through my PC. I have not had these issues. I am not saying that your experience is not true in any way. It's just that mine is not like yours at all. My son and I both enjoy Vail VR.
I contacted their official support before posting this review. I got no answer. After the video I was contacted and I was told to join their discord for troubleshooting the issue. They gave me a list of things to try. Technical issues aside, I still think it’s an average shooter and not “revolutionary”

I have tried when it was beta...ok. Then i bought after the launch...nothing new or changed...I felt scammed and asked for a refund! Too bad..there many other beautiful FPS to be played and already working better then this

payed 10 euro for it in februari 2023 and played it 3 times, last 2 times got with hackers in lobby and no other lobbies to join, never touched it again.
At least you didn’t pay it full price. Now they are asking 25 euros…

There are no hackers, it's likely that they are just really good at the game - I would recommend playing with friends first or just wait for SBMM to be added or something similar.

thank god someone else understands how shit this game is, i like the fact that they are rather doing content updates than fixing the ping advantage for if you have a high ping you can basically shoot around walls, or the fact that the game is impossible to get into for noobs.

Only played a few times and it’s still definitely unfinished. But I like that it feels like old school cod. I like unlocking stuff.
As for the issue with the wobble. I found out it happens on virtual desktop when playing wireless. But steam link works fine

when a company spend more money in advertising, influencers, fake tournament just to have visibility, then investing the money on improving the game, the game usually ends up been trash, and this is the case for Vail.
I was in the beta from almost the beginning and everytime I was pointing out and issue, a feedback, the answer was always "we are a small company and we don't have time now" and a week later they were releasing skins and other bs for the online store (nft) or organizing tournament with ppl with almost zero experience in competitive shooters just to have famous ppl in the "poster", in excange of a big pile of cash.
As far as I know, NFTs are no longer planned. They might have changed strategy on that. For the rest, yeah I think you’re right.
@@VRDaD they had to change strategy because of the huge backlash they had, the game was very disappointing, was going nowhere, and they only had plans for monetizing.... but at the end, after all this time, we are still talking about the same issue and the same hollow game
@@VRDaDit doesn't matter what's planned - they did sell NFTs (and said it was NECESSARY to keep company afloat, despite 10 million dollars from investors). The trick is, these nfts were supposed to be accessible inside the game. Steam and also Meta i believe prohibit selling software in their stores that has nft functionality added. So they took the money, and now physically can't ever add them into the game. That's okay, understandable, but nobody got any refund whatsoever lmao! I don't feel sorry for people who wasted money, they actually deserved that.

I'm going to need clarification if you use the virtual desktop ui to launch vail or if you use steam to launch vail. The difference between using the VB ui and steam can be a big difference
Ok so, the trouble is OpenXR Toolkit. If it’s enabled you’re going to have bad time. Like really bad time. The wobbly view goes away if you disable it. Edit: when I had problems I tried both.

Had a few issues with crashes when trying to join a server along with some other bugs.
I have to disagree with the "nothing new" statement. It's a more down to the ground, less arcadey shooter when compared to contractors. 34 hours put in since release, it's been a blast.

@VRDaD yep! Where as in contractors, people get upset and kick you out of the server just for taking advantage of the movement and jumping mechanics, things are a bit more even grounded in Vail in my opinion.

Coming from the perspective of someone who pours hours and hours into Vr fps games, it's frustrating being kicked repeatedly just because you know the game mechanics. Haven't come across a real reason to kick anyone in Vail yet in my time playing. It's been really fun :)

Im suprised at all this negativity, I picked this game up a few weeks ago and its been the best vr shooter I've played.
No stuttering, no crashes, easy to get into matches and I'm loving the gamemodes, artifcact in particular feels properly competitive.
Don't worry, Mr. GOOGLY EYES just got demolished playing Vail VR, and now his butt is hurt, because his self-proclaimed status of being a Pro VR shooter went straight down the toilet when he played against actual pro VR shooters...dude is nothing but a sore loser that plays kiddie games...lol

This was already true one year ago, when I made my first review of the game…and I didn’t have any technical problem. Nothing really changed in the gameplay. So, yeah…my point stands.

i enjoy it an never had a problem but im on index so cant say for other users its sad its not optimized for other headsets ;/ only problem is it gets boring after a couple games just like the other vr shooters iv played
People seem to focus on my technical issue. Yes, that made my experience even more frustrating, but the problems are different, and as you say it gets boring. This is because the game did not introduce any revolutionary mechanics that should have made it unique. It’s just an average shooter with low Ttk.

When the game dropped on steam for the first time last year, developers left positive review from their own main accounts.. thanks for covering Vail, they spent so much money on UA-camrs to shill for the game

@@VRDaD it's ridiculous that they made their crappy game one of the most expensive vr fps.. people like to call them indie devs, but they made at least 10 million dollars from investors etc long before they had any product. About 2 years ago i wanted to see what the game is about, and they wanted me to invest minium 100 to get access. I'll never invest in something i can't try prior lol. Developers quickly kicked me out of their discord. Thank you for this video. Not to mention the game was supposed to be free to play originally, and the game was so advanced, it could never possibly run on quest..

The gunplay is some of the best I’ve ever played in VR imo. Sad it’s not a good time for you. I recommend upgrading your headset for the crashing issues because I’m on quest 3 and it’s very stable.
I use a Quest 3 (the quest 2 you see in this video is my UA-cam face).
Anyhow, It doesn’t depend on the headset. Developers contacted me and sent me a list of things to to try. The technical issues are the easy things to fix…the game itself needs much more work.

@@SINfromPL well, before posting this video I posted on the vail subreddit asking for help, then I sent an email to the official support email address. No one replied. Then I posted this video…and they replied. They asked me to join the discord so I could troubleshoot.

And they always redirect to their discord (which is a whole another story on it's own - they had like 55k users for a game nobody has heard about, sized comparable to ultra popular pavlov discord. They literally paid for bots to fill the server to appear popular.. and then you have the same 10 people talking there all the time lol. They redirect to their discord, so they can control the narrative. If you posted this vid there, now it's obvious where all these people who don't have issues or think it's fun come from xD

Virtual desktop worked great for me. I was getting the "wobbly word" too. I had to turn off a program called OpenXR toolkit to get it to run correctly. Maybe that's the problem you where having too. I have been having fun with the game. I feel that because you had a technical issue you are panning it...
No. I resolved the technical issue, as I already said. Yes it was the OpenXR tool. The technical issue was the easy fix. The game itself is boring and doesn’t add anything new. Sorry to say that. I prefer playing other Vr fps shooters rather than this one. But if you’re having fun, good for you.

I agree that there are definitely many issues with the game and I agree that they shouldn't have released a game that you need to invest so muc hof your own time into just to get work.
But credit where credit is due: when it works, I think it's really fun. Although Pavlov and contractors are objectively better games, the gun handling and physics of those older games cannot compare to that of Vail and I'm the kind of person who loves smooth game physics and gunplay. When everything works and you're getting kills and stuff, it can be super fun.
But yeah, other than that, Game is pretty mid. Feels like old Pavlov or something. Totally not worth $25, the devs should have gone free to play and added cosmetics or something so the player doesn't feel like they have to spend money. Unlocking things is fun at first but becomes a grind. There's not nearly enough content, and the fake reviews are scummy.
But hey, at the end of a long and tough day, if there's nothing else to do, I think it's a pretty fun game for me to just turn my brain off and get kills. (If I can actually find a lobby)

Just a heads up. PC seems to have really bad performance compared to the game being played standalone (quest 3 is what I use). Most lobbies j hear alot of complaining from PC players but the rest of the players not on PC are playing fine. Either system issues, optimizations or whatever I wouldn't blame the game. It is a solid game and out of many VR shooters this one has had me hooked. Never played EA but bought the game on a whim and I'm glad I did. This guy's video doesn't really make sense.

@@VRDaD I don't think that was the aim of the game. From what I understand it was to make the best shooter mechanics better and they nailed everything so much better then they I've seen in any other game before it. Now that's my opinion and it is what it is but coming from many others Vail has solid gameplay. Bare bones sure but it does everything really well. I'd definitely check out some system settings on your end, I will be purchasing the PC one to do some tests myself. The standalone game on the quest store works flawless. Which would be strange if your PC can't handle the specs.

I just found that the gameplay is no different from what it was a year ago and nothing new compared to other VR fps shooters. Very limited game modes, Zero innovation. I do like the scopes and the sounds of the weapons, yes. But that’s about it. If the game is so good as you say, then you shouldn’t worry about my opinion at all.
It seems like you're just hating on it with no real reasons and by saying "it brings nothing new", well, what other game does?
And the lag is probably your PC and if you were on Quest, which it seems like it was, lag has been fixed and it wasn't nearly as bad as it shows on the video
Try turning down graphics and try being a little bit more positive, this game has nothing wrong with it - and while I am a partner, I would have no other opinion and would say it's bad if it was, which it's not.
My only complain about vail is mild game lag on quest and mild server lag on PC, nothing similar to which you showcased.
First of all, I am a PCVR player. I have a high end system, and if I have to turn down graphics, there is something wrong with your game. The technical issue is an easy fix. The game is boring and dull. Nothing new. But it’s marketed as “revolutionary” that is what’s wrong. Why I should be positive if my experience was bad? Just to make you a favour? I am a customer, remember that. If I launch a game I want it to work without going around troubleshooting. And by the way, I contacted the official support and I posted on the vail subreddit a request for help, before posting this video…but I didn’t get any reply until this video was popular enough.

The issue of the wobbliness, its a known issue in the community if you had asked in the discord you could have easily fixed it. Ill assume you use virtual desktop.
I asked on Reddit and sent an email to the official support. Didn’t get any reply until this video got popular enough. I resolved the wobbly issue and I put the solution in the video description. You should also consider that I am a customer, and if I get a game I expect it to work, and not to go around troubleshooting. Plus, the review is made at a certain point in time. If they fixe the issues and the gameplay later on, I’ll be happy to review it again. Despite having resolved the technical issue (which was an easy fix) my view on the game in general remains unchanged. Let me know when they put something interesting to do.
The game is extremely smooth. Better than contractors by a huge margin. Definitely a solid base so far. Any improvement from here on will just solidify the game as a top tier VR shooter. It will definitely need more maps and weapons but that’s what adds to long time playing.

@@VRDaD We all have them haha. You had the worst experience. I’m on the Quest 3 and playing the direct game, not through that virtual desktop I see others mentioning. They really did put a lot of thought into the menus, interfaces, and in game interactions. I just hope they keep expanding or take what they’ve learned and apply it to a new game

@@GodOfMetal66666 there’s a S&D variant, some sniper mode, domination also. Apparently they added a bunch of stuff about a month ago. I’m not saying it’s packed with stuff but hopefully they maintain that trajectory over the next couple years. One of the best parts is there is no skill based matchmaking so you’re against whoever, just like the old days

Nope. Nobody trashed me, even with a wobbly view I was able to get a good share of kills. I absolutely have no complaints about the mechanics of the game itself. Which basically reduces to who sees the enemy first 😂 no real skill involved there. Knowledge of map, standard prefire, and minimal recoil control. I see you still insist with the Esports argument 😂😂😂 if you’re happy, please continue to enjoy.

VAIL is trash I can't believe people are falling for the esports scam as if having such a low TTK qualifies being "esports" lol. Whoever sees the other person first wins, that's all there is to it, no skill. I can't believe people are deluding themselves into thinking it's a game with good gunplay
I wanted to like the game. When it first came out I thought “ok we are not there yet” but now, after they published version 1.0 and nothing really changed…it was disheartening. Plus the technical issues didn’t soften things up…
Noone is really falling for it, youtubers are getting paid to promote it. Previously people only played it to practice for the big tournament (which flopped hard) and immediatly stopped playing after it was over.
When it released into early access on PC last year, their peak player count was still below 300, and to this day it has not been improved. It's already half of what it was last week.
i've seen many gameplay videos, and the tiny playerbase seems to be made of edgy teenlords. Pavlov players still play pavlov, contractors players still play contractors, and onward players still play onward. Noone is talking about the game other than people who are heavily invested, who spent their last 2-3 years on discord with the dev team, and now they think devs are their friends.
It still requires skill, you need a good reaction time to get someone before they get you, i hate bullet sponge shooters and the TTK in this game is just right.

@@Sabrelake_Corp found the Vail player 😂 I can deal with low TTK, that’s why I didn’t even mention it here. Vail has much bigger problems to sort out, e.g. become a revolutionary shooter as they claimed to be. I’ll probably check it out in another couple of years…if it survives.
Finally someone admits it sucks. 30 dollars for this is ludacris. So many fan boys defending it it's hard to get an honest answer

hey man, sry to hear about your experience being poor; the wobble is caused by an openxr compatability within UE5.2, it's usually caused by third party services like openxr toolkit
also, if you want to complain about the reviews being similar, its because the devs often remind people to leave reviews to help with engagement
some people just leave similar reviews because theyre likely kids with no good critical analysis to give lol, it is how it is

Look man, I don’t hate the game…I really don’t! If you watch my first review, I talk reasonably well about it! In one year the developers focused on the wrong things and the gameplay remained pretty much unchanged since early access. One thing is that you ask £10 quid for it…one thing is £25. Sorry to say that, but I think Vail is not where it was supposed to be…and they said that it has been in development for 6-7 years!!!

I love Vail, it is super fun and it is different from the other shooters out there. Yall give it a try on a free weekend but it is awesome
Please expand in what it’s different from the other shooters out there, apart from the low TTK.
All the game modes are the same on what is already out there, with different names. Characters animations are not great. No gore or proper ragdoll physics. No bullet decals on objects. It’s just a different themed shooter with no character. Much more fun playing contractors and Pavlov.
However, if you like it, good for you. People can try the game if they want during a free weekend…but definitely it’s not worth £25.
