yeah but sometimes rust gets in very tight places that is impossible to access with steel wool or a brush or something like you mentioned. And if you're painting an object, it is vital for all of the rust to be completely removed before painting it, since it'll start rusting again.
@mv8030 doesn't matter if you get polarity wrong. just make sure the rusty bit is bubbling and not the anode. if you get it wrong no harm is done just swap it round
Hey “cortieflash” there using VOLTS not AMPS. Volts are power, amps are current. Direct current or (DC) is what is used in an electric chair. So relax.
I've got a really nice knife with a Damascus steel blade that I neglected for a while. I left it in coke for 2 days hoping to come home to a clean blade; wrong! It's worse now than what it was in the first place. The blade pretty much went black. Can anyone help me with some advice on how to restore it to it's former glory, please?
+Brick E Hansen You're gonna want to re-etch the blade. It's a kinda tedious process unfortunately. For further attempts to clear light rust off of damascus, I recommend using an electric toothbrush and toothpaste. (No joke.) It's what I use on mine and it's abrassive enough to take the rust out without ruining the damascus patterning. Hit it with a nice coat of oil afterwards and you're good to go.
Patrick M Bloody legend Patrick M! Cheers for that mate. I suppose it's the alumina in the toothpaste that acts as the abrasive agent. So now my next question, which you probably guessed was coming. How do I do this re-etching? Thanks again mate.
Congratulations!!! great explanation : clear to understand, easy to see, short in time and very efective in results!! thanks

No problem at this voltage! you can touch the live wire and not get a shock ;o)
for bigger stuff, use 230v or 400v both work geat just be sure that u have put it all on the water and walk away before u turn on the power :D:D
Will this work for stains on carbon steel knives?
Thank you so much man!
how can you tell the negative and positive when you just cut the ends of the power supply like in the vid?
@vjanda1 this is simple electrolysis.
Going to need a lot of power and coke for my truck lol

My thoughts were the very same and then I saw your posting.
