Smooth isn't THAT trascending, imo... but the other three really should've made the main list. U2 sucks, why did it even make the list is beyond me, I haven't even heard of that song. Live's song is completely unknown to me too, although I've heard about the band. And I'm not sure Beck fits into the genre, but he's awesome, so not really complaining about that one.

    10. Will always be a classic
    9. Great track
    8. One of my favourite tracks of all time. Wish it was higher
    7. Beautiful song
    6. Interesting choice but this list would be incomplete without U2
    5. Not sure if I'd call it rock, not sure what I'd call it actually. Awesome song though
    4. So many tracks you could have picked. I would have went for 'Give It Away', but both songs are great
    3. Surprised it's so high but I do love this track
    2. Would have went with Alive, Better Man is a great track but wouldn't have it so high

HM2. Stupid not to put it in the mainlist

I can remember the first time I saw the video like it was yesterday. I remember watching the television and thinking 'Damn, this is awesome!' Mainstream music in the very early 90s was in a strange place-not exactly 80s music but not really with a character of its own. Then Nirvana hit the mainstream and 80s pop/rock was dead, dead, dead.

Did people really have a hard time understanding Lightning Crashes? The lyrics are pretty clear...
"Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
    The angel opens her eyes
    The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door...
Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
    The angel closes her eyes
    The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall...
Oh I feel it coming back again
Like a roll of thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from the center of the earth again
    I can feel it.."
I mean, Live is one of my favorite bands of all time, I know the story behind the lyrics being an homage to a friend passed on... But I don't see how, if you paid attention to what was said, you could confuse the lyrics as being anything other than the old woman dying and bequeathing her confusion of life to the newborn child?

0:35 It's a shame that you had to adjust the criteria to make this list. Despite grunge & alternative rock being dominant in the 90s, they were never really designed to consistently produce chart-topping singles. I'm surprised that even Alanis Morissette didn't have a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Scar Tissue over Give it Away? Better Man over Even Flow? Mysterious Ways over One?

Scar Tissue was #1 for a really long time. It was #1 for an even longer time than Hello by Adele was in this day in time. It deserved it over Give it Away

My Gosh, hearing all of these songs are making me tear up. Born in the late '70s and was a teenager in the 90s and I miss this era.

How the heck is Green Day not in the list? Dookie was arguably the most influential rock album of the '90s, and Nimrod has a defined place in rock history. And no Weezer either?

    • @batmangummies5393
      @batmangummies5393 3 роки тому

Because none of the songs from Dookie charted as high as the songs on the list did. Also Nevermind is the most influential rock album of the 90’s.

Thank you for correctly crediting Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill (and later Le Tigre) as the inspiration for the title of Smells Like Teen Spirit. People always love to tell that story for some reason but they'll just say his friend or girlfriend (which is incorrect, he dated Tobi Vail, also of Bikini Kill) and fail to mention that she was the lead singer of an influential band in her own right.

Was born in 96, but grew up listening to all these songs as a kid. I love how all these songs had true meanings, and the singer had some type of crazy drug addiction and the song translates his mental struggles through an epic melody. It’s a shame rock isn’t the most popular genre anymkrw
