+watchmojo PLEASE DOOOO A 2000s one. those years from 2000 till like 2008 were mad. growing up in that era of music was great with songs like teenage dirtbag, allstars, and others
Personally, I'm happy the Smashing Pumpkins got on the list, even if it was only an honorable mention, but out of all there videos, you choose Tonight, Tonight. It's a great video, but it isn't there video that defines the 90s the most, if anything it's 1979, but I'm pretty happy with the list except I thought Vogue shouldn't have been on the list.
And Michael Jackson wasn't even mentioned. Interesting how WatchMojo never includes MJ in their 90's music top tens. For some reason he's usually seen as only an 80's icon when in reality he was an icon of the 90's as well.
He did actually do a number with Britney Spears, our 90s queen lol. Even if something is controversial it doesn't mean it didn't exist or define an era.
I'm honestly shocked at how bad WatchMojo got this one wrong. How did you not include ANY of these?: The Cranberries - Zombie Alanais Morisette - Ironic Mariah Carey- Honey Spice Girls - Wannabe/Giving You Everything Radiohead - Creep Cher - Believe TLC - No Scrubs Love Weezer's Buddy Holly, but the video was FAR from "Decade Defining"...

I don't understand how you can rely on a poll from a bunch of people that probably weren't even alive 25 years ago to experience how this music truly defined us. Rather than just record sales or Billboard charts.
MJ's music of the 90s was overshadowed by his controversy of touching little boys, he had a huge drop in popularity and most of the talk of MJ was not about his music but of his eccentricity.
+Stan Boyd He was still very popular, outside the US in particular. So "Black or White", "Scream" or "Remember The Time" should have been in this list instead of some questionable choices. And some of the honorable mentions, here, should have been in the actual rank.
+alex kanyima MJ was probably one of the most popular during the early 90s. Everyone sat down and watched the premiere of Black or White like it was the superbowl.
+N Zaidi The pinnacle of his fame was in the 80's and his most iconic music videos all belong to that decade. He's an icon of the 70's and 80's far more than the 90's. See Black and White if you want to see a sample of his most esteemed 90's work and I think you'll understand why he didn't make this list.
California love? Ain't nothing but a g thang? This list lacked a gangsta rap video. The decade was mainly gangsta rap how can you miss that lol. Some of those rock songs were being overused
What about Michael and Janet Jackson's scream. It's the costliest music video of all-time, and it's one of the most influential videos in music history.
10 Foo Fighters - Everlong 9 The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony 8 Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity 7 Daft Punk - Around the World 6 Radiohead - Just 5 Michael Jackson - Earth Song 4 Guns and Roses - November Rain 3 Beastie Boys - Intergalactic 2 Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson - Scream 1 Madonna - Vogue And can we please get honourable mentions for: The Prodigy - Firestarter/ Smack my Bitch Up Metallica - Enter Sandman Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
+Kelly Wilson Michael and/or Janet Jackson really should have been on this list. Love Will Never Do Without You for Janet. Remember the Time for Michael. Or Black or White.
+Yols Janet Jackson's If, Got Til its Gone or Together Again should be on the list or honorable mentioned Janet's music videos during 80's and 90's are precious especially If and Rhythm Nation.
Daft Punks Around the World is in the list top ten music videos of all time , but not in the list top ten music videos of the 90s i dont get it . Watchmojo whats thath shit ?
Janet Jackson deserved at least an HM for Together Again or If. Vogue - Madonna should be #1 Michael Jackson also deserves a place on the list for Scream
Not ONE Michael Jackson video?.. He was still the most famous singer on the planet in the 90s, and had a ton of the biggest music videos in the decade. -Black or White - Scream - Remember the Time - They Don't Care About Us - You Are Not Alone - Stranger in Moscow
Britney's video was a HUGE influence for a lot of females & pop stars at that time, Jive records were racking in money due to Britney's success! The youngest of her kind to do so even years after her debut. Soon to be 18 years later, she's still credited as one of the biggest pop sensations. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if you were above the age of 3 years old around 1998/9 till a slight decline 2005, you'd know that Britney was a pop phenomenon, no denying that!
my list: 10: California love by tupac 9: Pretty fly by the offspring 8: Can't touch this by MC hammer 7: Song 2 by blur 6: Zombie by cranberries 5: Basket case by green day 4: Loser by beck 3: Black hole sun by soundgarden 2: Black or white by micheal jackson HM: Around the world by daft punk, 1979 by smashing pumpkins, Jeremy by pearl jam, sabotage by beasty boys, november rain by guns n roses, losing my religion by rem, nothing compares 2 u by sinead o'conner 1: Smells like teen spirit by nirvana
They didn't include enough rap even though it was the decade were it really bloomed. CREAM, i would put california love over hit em up, ain't nothin but a g thang
My favorite videos of the decade (in no particular order, as it was hard enough to come up with 10): Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (Live); Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream; Pearl Jam - Jeremy; Alan Jackson - I'll Go On Loving You; Aerosmith - Livin' On the Edge; Aerosmith - Janey's Got a Gun; Garth Brooks - Standing Outside the Fire; Martina McBride - Independence Day; Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2U; Judds - Love Can Build a Bridge
I disagree - Nirvana was successful regardless of their video... Brittany's career was created by this video - and like it or not, Brittany was the biggest artist in the world L-90's / E-2000's. I thought the same thing - #2? What video could top that? Then - Ok, yeah... I get it.
Still, this list is named ‘top 10 decade defining video’s of the 1990s”. Nothing defines the nineties more than the video that shattered the eighties: the hairdressers hardrock, the shitty overproduced girl and boybands from stock, aitken and waterman, the dominition of the pop icons. Those were all history from the autumn of 1991. Nirvana paved the way for pearl jam, Alice in chains, even britpop (although it was a countermovement), metal in the charts, rage against the machine, the multiple day rockfestivals, and so much more. #2 is the most decade defining song and video. #1 is just the sign that bubblegum-pop was back and the nineties ended. The video of Britney doesn’t define a decade, it marks the end of that decade, and therefore it shouldn’t be on this list.
Tanya Gaytan I actually commented that before I watched the video and out of all the Pumpkins songs to mention, they choose Tonight Tonight. It's a great song and an amazing video, but it wasn't there most 90s defining video. Overall, the list was well done except for number 1, which WatchMojo gets wrong again.
My favorite music videos from the 90s are: - The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson - Stupid Girl by Garbage - Human Behaviour by Bjork - Around The World By Daft Punk - Firestarter or Breathe by The Prodigy - Frozen By Madonna - Come To Daddy by Aphex Twin - Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins
Smack my bitch up, Firestarter, Them bones, We Die Young, Enter Sandman, Jeremy, Nookie (Horrible song, nostalgic video imo) Black hole sun, My Summer (Shove It), Painkiller and alot or rap music videos like Mama said knock you out, California Love are apparently missing.
Well, number 1 just affirmed my suspicion that people who weren't actually alive or were extremely little kids in the 90's voted on this. Smells like Teen Spirit or Vogue should have been #1 and 2. Waterfalls should have been Top 10, Jeremy should have been on the list along with Been Caught Stealing and Enter Sandman. This list was pretty terrible. And no Bee Girl? Really?
The name of the vid is the most DEFINING music vids in the 90's, not the best song. Baby one more time is recognized hands down by anyone, Nirvanas vid isn't recognized as much.
I would like to see a Top 10 Decade Defining Music Videos of the 1970s.... Buggles 'Video Killed The Radio Star'; The Knack 'My Sharona', Queen 'I Killed A Man'
+Mr. Nobody don't worry. Californiacation is on the 2000's list. But I felt betrayed, by WatchMojo. When I saw #1, I was enraged at them. And even worse, none of the iconic RHCP videos of the 90's (Give It Away, Under the Bridge, Warped, Scar Tissue) made it.
Same here. And what about "Groove is in the Heart" by Deee-Lite, "Firestarter" by The Prodigy, "Around the World" by Daft Punk and mentioned above "Give it Away" by RHCP?!!
+RobbieSuede13 When Baby One More Time came out it changed the music industry forever and put them on a whole different path. Britney's song made a bigger impact and busted down doors for what was to come in the 2000's.
***** OK little kid, you were probably not even born or you were a baby when Baby One More Time was released. This list was about decade DEFINING music video's. Baby One More Time defined a decade and single-handedly influenced a whole new era of pop music. People like to talk shit and hate because it's Britney Spears, but facts are facts. Britney has had many influential music video's (Toxic, Oops I Did It Again, Baby One More Time, etc) and numerous iconic performances - whether people like it or not, whether people think she is talented or not, she had a huge influence on music in her prime.
No Slim Shady huh? Maybe that's just my opinion but the the absolute biggest snubs on this list is Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg. Nuttin But A G Thang & What's My Name. I seriously can't believe, with the impact Death Row had on the 90s that not only did those 2 not make it, but neither did 2Pac. Terrible oversight Mojo.
+100Stratusfiedx And you can't recognize the Nirvana video based on imagery alone? Hell, I recognize the cheerleader outfit with the anarchy "A" more than anything.
I can accept Spears at number 1 and Nirvana at number 2, but I can't accept that Aerosmith's Cryin', Crazy, Amazing or Livin' on the Edge weren't there. Those videos had the first vision of one completing another and had a cinematography side that won them inumerous Awards. Between 1993 and 1995 Aerosmith practically dominated the VMAs.
Crazy, Cryin', Ironic, Stay, Everybody Hurts, Torn, Fantastic Voyage, Today Was a Good Day, Tha Crossroads, 1979, Intergalactic, Smack my Bitch Up, California Love, Jeremy, Groove is in the Heart...
No Smarthones, no HD TV, no UA-cam, no Facebook, no Twitter, no Netflix...but MegaDrive/Snes, awesome pop music, VHS!!!! man, I miiissssss the 90's!!!!!!!!!!
20 - U Can't Touch This 19 - Enter Sandman 18 - Waterfalls 17 - Mo Money Mo Problems 16 - Black Or White 15 - Basket Case 14 - Nuthin But A G Thang 13 - Buddy Holly 12 - Virtual Insanity 11 - Cryin 10 - November Rain 09 - Sabotage 08 - Sober 07 - Closer 06 - Losing My Religion 05 - Bullet With Butterfly Wings 04 - Give It Away 03 - Black Hole Sun 02 - Jeremy 01 - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Really!? Brittney Spears at #1!? Yes, I admit the video's good, but Michael Jackson's music video for "Remember the Time" is amazing. It's got Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson, and a complex, amazing sequence of choreography.
10. Foo Fighters-Everlong 9.TLC-Waterfalls 8.Greenday-Basket Case 7.The Verve-Bitter Sweet Symphony 6.Eifel 65- Blue 5.Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun 4.Stone Temple Pilots-Plush 3.Guns N Roses-November Rain 2.Weezer-Buddy Holly 1.Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit FUCK NO'S Wannabe-Spice Girls Baby One More Time-BRITTANY SPEARS Vouge- Madonna
it's funny how the users complain about this lists when they are the ones who voted in the first place. Come on, this is not YOUR top 10, this was voted for thousands of users so if you don't like it just make your own top 10.
Kinda missing U2's One. I don't care where it could end up, but the Anton Corbijn black and white original video is without a doubt one of the most haunting and beautiful videos ever put to television.
So Michael Jackson didn't make the 90's cut? Not even by having Michael Jordan, McCauley Culkin, Magic Johnson, Eddie Murphy, Naomi Campbell, Slash or Priscilla Presley (all icons of their own) in his short films? Oh, well...
Cowboys from Hell by Pantera should have made the list. Pantera exploded into the heavy metal scene and brought the genre back from the dead. There has to be a top 10 metal songs of the 1980's and 1990's
Here's my list. 10: Alanis Morissette: Ironic, or TLC: Waterfalls, or Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson: Scream. 9: Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg: Nuthin' But A G Thang, or Jamiroquai: Virtual Insanity, or Madonna: Ray Of Light. 8: Pearl Jam: Jeremy, or the Backstreet Boys: I Want It That Way, or Weezer: Buddy Holly. 7: Sinead O' Connor: Nothing Compares 2 U, or Madonna: Vogue, or TLC: Waterfalls. 6: Beastie Boys: Sabotage, or Whitney Houston: I Will Always Love You. 5: Aerosmith: I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. 4: Red Hot Chili Peppers: Under the Bridge. 3: R.E.M: Losing My Religion. 2: Guns 'n' Roses: November Rain. 1: Billy Ray Cyrus: Achy Breaky Heart. Van Halen: Right Now. Green Day: Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).
especially when Sober won a grammy. they included closer for the controversy it caused. Prison sex was aired only ever aired once and was banned even late night. and Stinkfist wasn't renamed track one for TV. plus to add the Jones himself does all the stop motion in the videos.
+CursedViper Tool has a very niche following, nothing decade defining. It isn't something that belongs in pop culture. Having said that, it is my favorite band.
Special thanks to our user 8305kate and zendaddy621 for submitting this idea on our Interactive Suggestion Tool at www.WatchMojo.com/suggest
+watchmojo PLEASE DOOOO A 2000s one. those years from 2000 till like 2008 were mad. growing up in that era of music was great with songs like teenage dirtbag, allstars, and others
You upload video like every hour ?!
Personally, I'm happy the Smashing Pumpkins got on the list, even if it was only an honorable mention, but out of all there videos, you choose Tonight, Tonight. ok a list i dont agree with....hurry up with the 2000s videos that i wont agree with
+WatchMojo.com you guys NEED to do top 10 emo bands ASAP
And Michael Jackson wasn't even mentioned. Interesting how WatchMojo never includes MJ in their 90's music top tens. For some reason he's usually seen as only an 80's icon when in reality he was an icon of the 90's as well.
People for some reason try to undermine his impact. smh
+Hazel Amarie Well, that a failed attempt, then.
He did actually do a number with Britney Spears, our 90s queen lol. Even if something is controversial it doesn't mean it didn't exist or define an era.
seems like they only know thriller/beat it/ billie jean.. ugh. i was really expecting to see remember the time/ earth song, etc...
Pedo-Rapists are better forgotten than remembered.
I'm honestly shocked at how bad WatchMojo got this one wrong. How did you not include ANY of these?:
The Cranberries - Zombie
Alanais Morisette - Ironic
Mariah Carey- Honey
Spice Girls - Wannabe/Giving You Everything
Radiohead - Creep
Cher - Believe
TLC - No Scrubs
Love Weezer's Buddy Holly, but the video was FAR from "Decade Defining"...
also that guns and roses video? That is the most generic boring music video ever, why is it on number 3 in this list??
Where are the Michael Jackson videos? Black or White was a HUGE deal. Remember the Time is a showcase of genius.
It was a huge oversight that these songs were not listed.
TLC-Waterfalls
Say You'll be There* not give you everything
Some more honorable mentions:
-No Doubt: "Just a Girl" / "Don't Speak"
-Korn: "Freak on a Leash"

I have to agree with the votes Nirvana before that garbage bag Speers
+UnderGround Prod. I believe Learn To Fly is from 2000.
I don't understand how you can rely on a poll from a bunch of people that probably weren't even alive 25 years ago to experience how this music truly defined us. Rather than just record sales or Billboard charts.
+Dakota Darci It came out in 1999, so it's eligible
+Jesse Booth its cause watchmojo is a piece of shit list making site. they run out of ideas so they re use similar themes all of the damn time
Ahhh, the 90s... a decade that began with Nirvana and ended with the Backstreet Boys.
A perfect description of how the decade progressed
I did NOT think about that... strange progression.
That's how she fuggin goes, boyz
And both were great, honestly
To me it always began with MC Hammer and ended with Ricky Martin
Whoah!!! Hold on a minute here... I know MJ should be on this list somewhere... Where's "Remember the Time" or "Black or White"
Even "Scream"...what a trip not even a mention.
@@canadiangopher4443 😤
I said the same exact thing. Who ever put this list together had very limited knowledge about music on the 90s.
So I guess Michael Jackson didn't exist during the 90s, huh?
But was it more popular enough
+alex kanyima MJ was probably one of the most popular during the early 90s. Everyone sat down and watched the premiere of Black or White like it was the superbowl.
+N Zaidi The pinnacle of his fame was in the 80's and his most iconic music videos all belong to that decade. He's an icon of the 70's and 80's far more than the 90's. See Black and White if you want to see a sample of his most esteemed 90's work and I think you'll understand why he didn't make this list.
Yols I mean litterally at his peak of his career
***** indeed
Dude i dont want to complain but if this list misses the most importand ones im gonna SMACK MY BITCH UP
say what now
Tune!
Look guys i think he trying for a sentence
+Squirty Squirt Look up "The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up", then smack yourself in the forehead.
+m4hk5 definitely one of the most iconic vids of all time
California love? Ain't nothing but a g thang? This list lacked a gangsta rap video. The decade was mainly gangsta rap how can you miss that lol. Some of those rock songs were being overused
And was at their peak
I was just commenting the same shit, shoutout frisco
I know! Notoroius BIG? Man, the west was doing much more than the east, espicially in this time frame.
^^^ Lol Biggie was the biggest rapper out between 94-97 lmao
Gary Goldman I disagree, pac was on the same level as big
Michael Jackson scream -1995
What about Michael and Janet Jackson's scream. It's the costliest music video of all-time, and it's one of the most influential videos in music history.
10 Foo Fighters - Everlong
9 The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
8 Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity
7 Daft Punk - Around the World
6 Radiohead - Just
5 Michael Jackson - Earth Song
4 Guns and Roses - November Rain
3 Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
2 Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson - Scream
1 Madonna - Vogue
And can we please get honourable mentions for:
The Prodigy - Firestarter/ Smack my Bitch Up
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
Ricky Martin, cup for life
+Kelly Wilson I was hoping a Prodigy video would make the list, Firestarter or Breathe.
+Kelly Wilson Michael and/or Janet Jackson really should have been on this list. Love Will Never Do Without You for Janet. Remember the Time for Michael. Or Black or White.
+Yols Janet Jackson's If, Got Til its Gone or Together Again should be on the list or honorable mentioned Janet's music videos during 80's and 90's are precious especially If and Rhythm Nation.
the Prodigy I'm pretty sure stole Prodigy from Mobb Deeps name. or its the opposite
The "Scream" video with MJ and Janet should have gotten an honorable mention.
not even an honourable mention for Daft Punk's 'Around the World' video....are you serious watchmojo?
Daft Punks Around the World is in the list top ten music videos of all time , but not in the list top ten music videos of the 90s i dont get it . Watchmojo whats thath shit ?
Definitely should've been top 3
+CursedViper Yes absolutely.
+iSynthh Because it was released in 2000's?
+fclp67 Around the World was realeased in 1997 and Da Funk 1995. These are not the 2000s .
How does Brittany Spears beat Nirvana
*BRITNEY video is a pop classic and most iconic of the 90s
+Dustin Kestner I don't like it but i understand it.
+Reality Fan are you high?
+Chris “Critical” O'Keeffe. Britney is the most iconic so she's not high must be you
+King Monkey Mon who the hell cares who you want to bang more this is a video about iconic music videos
Wtf where is black hole sun? Like seriously if were talking music videos.
thats a music video from the 80's i think
+axel ivan oropeza soto 90's for sure.
axel ivan oropeza soto
1994
Exactly!
Srry guys mb i apologize
Where the hell is Scream or Black or White by MJ??? :/
Scream was so innovative imo
I personally disagree and think Teen Spirit should have been first.
Agreed
+Orange Juice W/ No Pulp Then people would bitch about Mojo having a boner for Nirvana even if it deserves the spot
+Myrsa True, but still. Britney Spears? Sure the video was pretty big but I don't think it should get #1 spot. Probably just the top 5
+WWE fan12 I think SLTS is awesome and out Nirvana on the map (obviously) but I think their best song is Aneurism.
+Steven D have you heard "you know you're right"
Anyone else notice just how different the music was in the early 90's compared to the late 90's??? WOW!!
I am almost sure there will be Linking Park in tomorrow video.
Ant
+NabIL Haddad Ah yes, the old Linking park, that park that connects two other, larger parks. ;)
Signed,
KG
you mean Linkin Park
I fucking love linkin park
ko نمله you're cancer
Wow...I'm glad TLC got an honorable mention but no Mariah Carey? You can't have 90's music without her.
Paul Solis wait they don’t make the countdown though?!
Whoever made this list was probably 12 and didn't actually grow up in the 90s
california love?
exactly
California... knows how to party
Same
I was expecting it
Exactly! And they were missing a gangsta rap song too. Ain't nothin but a g thang or something else
And Michael Jackson ???? Black or White, Scream, Earth Song, They Don't Care About Us ??????
@Mihir S K you dont deserve to comment here
Janet Jackson deserved at least an HM for Together Again or If.
Vogue - Madonna should be #1
Michael Jackson also deserves a place on the list for Scream
Cher's believe? Chemical brothers ? Not even as an honourable mention :(
+sully sole I guess they didn't dig those Block Rockin' Beats....
Was it just me waiting for blink 182 then?
+Hannah Ireson they could appear on the 00 list. but i think its not that likely.
ehh...more like early 2000's
+Miku Hatsune whats my age again and all the small things were in 1999
Xenon631 the rock show, first date, miss you, man over board where 2000+
HulK TopF I know but I don't think they have better chances of getting on the list than whats my age again en all the small things
Not ONE Michael Jackson video?.. He was still the most famous singer on the planet in the 90s, and had a ton of the biggest music videos in the decade.
-Black or White
- Scream
- Remember the Time
- They Don't Care About Us
- You Are Not Alone
- Stranger in Moscow
don't forget Jam
I still listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit every day. I LOVE it
same here. check ou 30 min denial version
+Tristan Hoekstra I was expecting it to be in here.
Also Nirvana has many better songs, so you should branch out. But out of videos, Teen Spirit wins.
+Tristan Hoekstra never heard of it.
***** When you think of iconic alt rockers or grunge stars, you think Nirvana. Nirvana will always be the most iconic.
+Tristan Hoekstra Well done. Have a sticker.
I say MJ, Black or White
+stuckIN801 I guess not even a mention LOL. 90's music is just too broad for a Top 10 list. One of the greatest decades in music (all genres).
I thought that either scream, black or white, Earth song or remember the time would make the list...these videos were seriously ahead of their time.
Michael & Janet Jackson "SCREAM"
Why did Enter Sandman not get at least an honorable mention? It's one of the best videos of all time, not just the 90s
Britney's video was a HUGE influence for a lot of females & pop stars at that time, Jive records were racking in money due to Britney's success! The youngest of her kind to do so even years after her debut. Soon to be 18 years later, she's still credited as one of the biggest pop sensations.

Agree
my list:
10: California love by tupac
9: Pretty fly by the offspring
8: Can't touch this by MC hammer
7: Song 2 by blur
6: Zombie by cranberries
5: Basket case by green day
4: Loser by beck
3: Black hole sun by soundgarden
2: Black or white by micheal jackson
HM: Around the world by daft punk, 1979 by smashing pumpkins, Jeremy by pearl jam, sabotage by beasty boys, november rain by guns n roses, losing my religion by rem, nothing compares 2 u by sinead o'conner
1: Smells like teen spirit by nirvana
C.R.E.A.M. or Triumph by Wu-Tang Clan?
Probably C.R.E.A.M in my opinion.
aR0ttenBANANA96 Fucking love both to be honest
Agreed but so underrated I doubt it'll be on here....
+Matty J I know man.
That, california love, and any west coast gangsta track
No give it away or under the bridge? 😢
where the fuck is TUPAC - HIT EM UP? that video was fire
+revolutie Yeah surprised Pac didn't make the list considering he's probably the greatest rapper of all time
They didn't include enough rap even though it was the decade were it really bloomed. CREAM, i would put california love over hit em up, ain't nothin but a g thang
+revolutie Definitely a decade defining track, not a decade defining video tho. It would be low in the top 10 2Pac video's.
tupac is highly over rated... no hate towards his music tho
Jerry Castaneda GTFOH, TUPAC IS THE GOAT
i gues black or white was the most viewed music video of the 90's for no reason !
Nah. I will always loe you is the most viewed music video from the 90s
let me guess Hit Me Baby One More Time is #1
You would be right. Tonight, Tonight should be #1.
+Lone Wolf Rider Tonight tonight is such an amazing song and music video! I wish it was on the list but at least it was an honorable mention.
+Lone Wolf Rider not really the tittle is for best video of the 90s and Britney was definitely the most iconic
Losing My Religion should be #1 hands down.
+Heidi Varner not really
Smells Like Teen Spirit has a WAY More Iconic Music Video Than Baby One More Time!
Yes it was, uneducated people.
I highly disagree
No
Where the hell is 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins?
+southsider 35 1979 is my favorite song by them. I thought Jeremy by Pearl Jam would be on here.
Tanya Gaytan I actually commented that before I watched the video and out of all the Pumpkins songs to mention, they choose Tonight Tonight. It's a great song and an amazing video, but it wasn't there most 90s defining video. Overall, the list was well done except for number 1, which WatchMojo gets wrong again.
southsider 35 Yeah I was disappointed with #1 too.
mrsuns10 Yes, I'm aware of that
Don't forget their amazing song Bullet with Butterfly Wings.
My favorite music videos from the 90s are:
- The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson
- Stupid Girl by Garbage
- Human Behaviour by Bjork
- Around The World By Daft Punk
- Firestarter or Breathe by The Prodigy
- Frozen By Madonna
- Come To Daddy by Aphex Twin
- Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins
Dope Show and Ray of Light as well
Don't forget Dope Show
Smack my bitch up, Firestarter, Them bones, We Die Young, Enter Sandman, Jeremy, Nookie (Horrible song, nostalgic video imo) Black hole sun, My Summer (Shove It), Painkiller and alot or rap music videos like Mama said knock you out, California Love are apparently missing.
All deserving 👍
I'm disappointed that none of Aerosmith's videos featuring Alicia Silverstone got even an honorable mention! They were epic!
1. "Tha Crossroads" (1996) - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Good video, but surprised that 'Wonderwall' isn't on here.
Wow! I never expected Britney Spears to be no. 1. This was such an iconic song in the 90's. I really love this song. But I wouldn't put it to no. 1.
Honestly, I think most of the honorable mentions are more iconic videos of the 90s than many of those included on the official list.
No Soundgarden? Really? And what about No Diggitty? And No Doubt? Come on now WatchMojo seriously?
To be fair, there is only ten slots
Well, number 1 just affirmed my suspicion that people who weren't actually alive or were extremely little kids in the 90's voted on this. Smells like Teen Spirit or Vogue should have been #1 and 2. Waterfalls should have been Top 10, Jeremy should have been on the list along with Been Caught Stealing and Enter Sandman. This list was pretty terrible. And no Bee Girl? Really?
I grew up in the 90s and listing to this make me feel nostalgic.
The name of the vid is the most DEFINING music vids in the 90's, not the best song. Baby one more time is recognized hands down by anyone, Nirvanas vid isn't recognized as much.
+Kurama Arctica yeah, people don't seem to get that at all. I'm surprised Nirvana's video ranked so high.
My 2nd favorite era of music in general, next to the 70s. God the 90s was just a great time for everything, wish the world was still in the 90s.
I would like to see a Top 10 Decade Defining Music Videos of the 1970s.... Buggles 'Video Killed The Radio Star'; The Knack 'My Sharona', Queen 'I Killed A Man'
Blind Melon - No Rain? Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life? Hanson - Mmmmbop? Aqua - Barbie Girl?
Was kinda expecting Loser by Beck, well at least Basket Case is in HM
Was expecting Californication as well...
@@saszab vh1s top 100 songs of the 90s has the songs you listed
Britney over Nirvana... Really ??? Mojo your on Crack !
That's what I said smh
Ever heard of something called "mainstream"? Gor example, Britney was it. Nirvana definetly wasn't
+RobbieSuede13 Nirvana's song is more iconic, Britney's video is more iconic. This is a video about the videos, not the music.
90's era is my teen era
Yeah right now music is trash
What is with all the hate with modern music dig a little fucking deeper
You're a lazy idiot, some of the best music that exists is modern you're apparently just too lazy to find it.
Epic Compilations thank you
I was really expecting to see Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden on this list
What about Michael and Janet Jackson's Scream? That was some epic dancing and special effects.
No "Black Hole Sun" by #Soundgarden?! Wow. This list kinda sucks. :)
What's my name should've been there. That's song used to get played a lot
without a doubt, Britney arrived, and omfg it was amazing
Where the hell is The Offspring - Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) or The Kids Aren't Alright??
Tonight, Tonight is easily the best video of the 90's-
Ummmmm, #1 is a joke
+Erik Weiss Joke doesn't even begin to cover it... I was like WTF? O_o
+MOCA_357 When I saw Nirvana at #2 I almost broke my iPad........then I remembered that this is a Watchmojo video, and they're always wrong.
+Erik Weiss nope. Ask anyone and they can recognize the britney spears video alone based on the imagery.
+100Stratusfiedx And you can't recognize the Nirvana video based on imagery alone? Hell, I recognize the cheerleader outfit with the anarchy "A" more than anything.
+Erik Weiss no, you can't
I thought Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun would've been here somewhere.
I would add under the bridge by red hot chili peppers. Such a classic song
Yeah
MJ: Black or White? Scream? Ghosts? What the hell Watchmojo?
really Nirvana number 2 with Brittany Spears no 1. i was sure smells like teen spirt would be no 1
Kevin Warner thaaaaank you
Kevin Warner lol you have no idea
I can accept Spears at number 1 and Nirvana at number 2, but I can't accept that Aerosmith's Cryin', Crazy, Amazing or Livin' on the Edge weren't there. Those videos had the first vision of one completing another and had a cinematography side that won them inumerous Awards. Between 1993 and 1995 Aerosmith practically dominated the VMAs.
The kids are not alright, Fastlove and Country House are missing.
Nice list!
+Joel Monteiro So is Enter Sandman....talk about iconic videos
Crazy, Cryin', Ironic, Stay, Everybody Hurts, Torn, Fantastic Voyage, Today Was a Good Day, Tha Crossroads, 1979, Intergalactic, Smack my Bitch Up, California Love, Jeremy, Groove is in the Heart...
So Britney Spears' 1998 song defined the years 1990, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96 and 97?
... Baby One More Time was iconic because it had that 90s vibe in the video and the innocence in her. It paved the path for the 2000s videos.
"Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" - Missy Elliot
Not even an honorable mention for black hole sun? That music video is iconic
I guess Michael Jackson and Oasis werent in the 90s
No Smarthones, no HD TV, no UA-cam, no Facebook, no Twitter, no Netflix...but MegaDrive/Snes, awesome pop music, VHS!!!! man, I miiissssss the 90's!!!!!!!!!!
20 - U Can't Touch This
19 - Enter Sandman
18 - Waterfalls
17 - Mo Money Mo Problems
16 - Black Or White
15 - Basket Case
14 - Nuthin But A G Thang
13 - Buddy Holly
12 - Virtual Insanity
11 - Cryin
10 - November Rain
09 - Sabotage
08 - Sober
07 - Closer
06 - Losing My Religion
05 - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
04 - Give It Away
03 - Black Hole Sun
02 - Jeremy
01 - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Really!? Brittney Spears at #1!? Yes, I admit the video's good, but Michael Jackson's music video for "Remember the Time" is amazing. It's got Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson, and a complex, amazing sequence of choreography.
Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson! I used to love that shit!
10. Foo Fighters-Everlong
9.TLC-Waterfalls
8.Greenday-Basket Case
7.The Verve-Bitter Sweet Symphony
6.Eifel 65- Blue
5.Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun
4.Stone Temple Pilots-Plush
3.Guns N Roses-November Rain
2.Weezer-Buddy Holly
1.Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit
FUCK NO'S
Wannabe-Spice Girls
Baby One More Time-BRITTANY SPEARS
Vouge- Madonna
it's funny how the users complain about this lists when they are the ones who voted in the first place. Come on, this is not YOUR top 10, this was voted for thousands of users so if you don't like it just make your own top 10.
I knew Tonight Tonight and Waterfalls would make this list! :)
I still think bittersweet symphony shouldve occupied first spot
Kinda missing U2's One. I don't care where it could end up, but the Anton Corbijn black and white original video is without a doubt one of the most haunting and beautiful videos ever put to television.
So Michael Jackson didn't make the 90's cut? Not even by having Michael Jordan, McCauley Culkin, Magic Johnson, Eddie Murphy, Naomi Campbell, Slash or Priscilla Presley (all icons of their own) in his short films? Oh, well...
I think you mean Lisa Marie Presley dude for You Are Not Alone.
@@Anonymous-ox4gk hjlllhh
How can you talk about defining 90's music videos and forget Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity or an Michael Jackson video?! I demand a recount! 😂
Zombie by the Cranberries?
Cowboys from Hell by Pantera should have made the list. Pantera exploded into the heavy metal scene and brought the genre back from the dead. There has to be a top 10 metal songs of the 1980's and 1990's

@@TiaNEVERTamera Cool list, huh?
Nothing from Tool? Hmm..
^!!!!!!!!!
especially when Sober won a grammy. they included closer for the controversy it caused.
Vogue should have been higher. Vogue is art. Vogue is a masterpiece.
Where is Scream, Black or White, Remember the Time, They don't care about us, Jam ???
I would've thought Blink 182's "What's My Age Again" would at least get an honorable mention.
9:48 "Nirvava are a no-brainer..."
Poor choice of words there, mojo...
Wow
No they are actually but should be higher the person they picked at #1 which that video had no business being
Nuthin But A G Thang? That video perfectly captures the 90s rap/g-funk feel
