    Today we've got another frosty ep in the garage back working on the SAR. I finally get those ugly racks ripped off the back of the bike and then pull the dB killers out of my Akra slip-on. Took some video of the before and after and then threw the stock can back on to show how both compare. HUGE difference for like an hour's worth of work.
    Stay tuned for my next video where I where we're going to really kick off the build process on this bike, to this point it's mostly just been prep work.

    Great video man!, just bought the AKRAPOVIC recently and also would like to remove those Db killers.
    Thank you!

    Which size rivets did you use on the Carbon part?

    I got an Akrapovic exhaust for my 1050xt and it looks identical to your exhaust. It looks like I’ll have to remove the db killers as well as it sounds almost identical to stock which is really frustrating. Great video!

      Yup, it’s crazy they charge so much for these things and advertise “huge weight reduction and improved sound”… if you close your eyes they sound exactly the same. We put a Yoshi Heptaforce on my dads SAR and it sounds sooooooo much better than the Akra, weighs half as much, costs half as much, and looks twice as good. If I smash this Akra that’s what I’m going to replace it with. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    Have the same exhaust, hardly seems worth the change, the rear Pannier racks are for sure butt ass ugly, but they are also rear crash bars beyond the rear pegs. Great video. Trust me I want my rear racks off too. My Vstrom had these twist lok screws for them and they were a breeze to remove when I could. But my current Tiger 900 R well. They are all sorts of pretty much permanent without the original bolts that I cannot locate .

    Great video. This is why i went for a yoshi alpha where the removable db killers are an optional.extra (no thanks) The Akra as standard sounded pretty much same as stock (think Dyson)

      Thanks! Yea I was very disappointed with what the Akra sounds liked stock, like you said very “Dyson-esque”. Definitely sounds better with the baffles cut out but still no where near what a true free flow sounds like. Weight is the other issue, it’s shocking how much that Akra weighs when part of the leading advertisement for it is how much weight you’ll save. I’ll likely be switching to a Yoshi in the near future when I do the Rottweiler intake

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. I too have seen others remove the baffles and there's a bolt welded on each baffle that is supposedly easy to crack off. What size drill bit and rivets did you use? I'm considering doing this with my BMW R1250RS. I have the same black titanium Akrapovic can.

      @Texas2Tires, I have almost your same bike (2022 R1250R) and I'm considering removing the DB killers on my Akrapovic as well. Let me know what you find from your research!

    Have you tried to decatalize your bike also from the manifold?
    I wanted to understand if the sound is very invasive to alert possible controls

    • @goldnmoto383
      @goldnmoto383  Рік тому +1

      No, I believe the only way to do that would be to cut the header open with a grinder, cut out the catalyzer, then weld the header back shut. Lot of work and I don’t have a welder. I would not consider this system obnoxiously loud with the dB killers removed, but that’s just an opinion…

    I just ordered a Pipe Werx can for my 2021 1290 SAS. I also ordered an inexpensive db meter. I'll be interested in seeing what that tells me.

    • @goldnmoto383
      @goldnmoto383  2 роки тому

      I’d definitely be interested in what the dB meter shows. We just put a Yoshimura heptaforce on my dad’s 1290 SAR and it sounds WAYYYY better than my Akra, even with the baffles removed. Don’t have actual quantitative data on the noise differences though, just what the ears report

    Does the motorcycle behave normally after removing the db-killer? There is no more combustion, it doesn't heat up? Have you done a remap?

    • @goldnmoto383
      @goldnmoto383  Рік тому

      Very happy I did it, stock sounds awful in my opinion. It’s a much deeper more pleasant sound but not obnoxiously loud, I’m very comfortable riding through my neighborhood early in the morning knowing I’m not upsetting my neighbors. 10/10 would recommend if you have this Akra slip on

    The carbon not burns inside because of these holes? Or you covered the holes somehow?

    Has anyone removed the Catalytic converter too?

    • @goldnmoto383
      @goldnmoto383  2 роки тому

      There’s no catalytic converter in the muffler. That’s in the header pipe. A few people have done it and posted videos but it’s quite a bit of work and requires you to cut into and then reweld the pipe. For a couple hundred bucks you can just buy a stainless header without a Cat
