I would have never thought that you would have a problem pull starting if the battery was disconnected or dead. It seems like that is the most likely time that you would want the pull start to work. Wow. Pretty big fail, if you ask me. I’m really happy to hear that the manufacturer will update the generator. Thanks for all your work finding these gotchas and getting this information to us. I also agree that the cigarette lighter socket is much more useful/versatile than ever changing USB ports.
I wonder after you said it's a carb compliance thing if the battery is needed to run the fuel pump first to get a clean start with atomized fuel to the injector. Honda can do it....but wait no they can't aren't they not California compliant? Very involved for a little suitcase genny. Damned government.
Doing away with the carburetor and having a very efficient electronic injection requires a computer to take all the factors into consideration, then it requires a battery to operate and run! If you want one that starts without a battery don't buy this unit!
Recoil start is quite a bit more complicated with an efi system. It might make more sense to have a provision to connect it to an external 12 volt battery or jump pack. Personally since I'm considering this to replace the 20 year old generator on my motorhome I'd have multiple sources of dc power between the chassis and house batteries.
67 lbs with fluids with that kind of output is incredible. I like being able to carry my generator with 1 hand so it's not an awkward lift to get them into the truck.
The best and most professional out there! You have inspired me to do my first ever UA-cam video. And it was on a generator. I've got a long ways to go on learning about editing lol. You are like honda sir. "The gold standard"
This is the exact generator ive been looking for. Small enough to move around and large enough to run our camper at music festivals. Im hopful that it has a decent runtime.
Glad to see they kept the height on the new model as I like to carry in the bed of my truck under the tonneau. Will be watching for you to do an update on the unit that should start with the dead battery before I purchase. Thanks again for all your information!
I bought the Sam's Club 4800 starting watt version. Other than the co being bad out of the box, it's been great. I currently have 86+ hours on it, it'll run the 13.5k ac on the rv for about 6 hours at 1600 watts. It's just as quiet as my friends predator 3500. I chose this one over the predator 5000 because of the weight, i can easily get this one in/out of the truck. I've ordered the fuel pump and a 6 gallon gas tank. This should give me up to a 30 hour run time. The telescoping handle is cheap like the one on my ai power 2300, so I don't use it unless I'm on concrete. I'm sure it'll snap off with a minor twist like the other one did.
Starting EFI with a dead battery is a common problem with dirt bikes. The solution is to connect a capacitor (try 10uF ) to the battery leads and that should store enough energy from the stator to run the fuel injection.
How about 1 pull easy start? My older generator(Generator xl 5500) purchased in 1998, still starts on the first pull, but it is the best maintained motor that I have on the property. It is held in long term storage conditions after each major power outage.
Keep it simple for all the users of a generator that sits long periods of time and the battery goes dead! Have a sticker on top of the unit that says use this optional solar panel of 5 W stuck to the top of the machine to trickle charge your lead acid battery that won't catch on fire!
That looks pretty good I'm still waiting on that external fuel tank pump thing that they were supposed to make goes in place of you'll have I thought I want one of those
Was just about to squeeze the trigger and buy the dual fuel version of this generator right on up until you mentioned Genmax plans to release a new version in December. I'll hold off until then to see what the new version offers. Until then my two Honda EU2000i generators will carry on as they have for overt 19 years now.
Just got this off Amazon today October 22, 2024. It will pull start with the battery disconnected. I bought it assuming it wouldn't and was going to have to live with it. Pretty stoked now. You may want to pin this or make changes so other know it now pull starts with dead/disconnected battery.
Excellent presentation. A provision should probably have been made to start the unit with an external battery. HOWEVER, it should be an extremely simple issue involving the addition of a very inexpensive SAE 12V connector for the battery compartment that goes to the user’s external 12V battery of their choice, and not necessarily a front panel re-design. If the engineers can’t get the pull-to-start redesigned reliably *without other negatives* (i.e., increasing the cost or delayed deliveries), my recommendation would be to drop the pull start feature altogether. Everyone has 12V batteries laying around which can be used to start the unit, if the supplied battery ever dies. Yes, pull start would be a nice backup feature, but this is a compact unit and every feature will also add it’s own drawbacks, which aren’t just limited to increased final per-unit costs.
Fuel 87-91 but no benefits if higher. For our area, they have Non-ethanol 93. So for my storage(27 gallons), I add the fuel stabilizer and the non-ethanol gas. It does not give me more power, but ther is a level of comfort by using non ethanol gas. I also rotate the gas every 6 months. I throw it away right into the car or tractor. As for the generator, I love the smaller more quiet inverters.
Ethanol will keep your fuel system cleaner than non. It will remove water. Stop believing the old wives tales. Follow the real science. You are wasting time and money.
3 people in my camp group bought these and they all have starting issues. We called their customer service and we all got the run around. Good luck if you buy one!
Do you know what the voltage is for the lithium battery pack? I'd potentially like to semi permanently install this in the generator compartment on my motorhome with it connected to the house 12 volt system and the aux full line from the ford chassis.
How do the remote start/stop controls work? Do you have to leave the ON/OFF mechanical switch in the ON position? This would run the battery dead quickly as it has to cycle the fuel pump, and I'm guessing energize the electronics of the inverter etc. So if one uses a generator like this or other remote start brands you've reviewed and tested, in a remote shop, or mobile vehicle like and rv or semi truck etc., is there a brand or model that does not require the ON/OFF switch to be left ON? Or how does this work?
Most will need a main switch on. I assume if used frequently like every 8-10 hours it should be fine maybe a little longer. I haven’t tested the power draw and how long the battery lasts…🤔 I should check that.
It shows the neutral is bonded to frame, on mine when I measure between neutral and ground that it does not read shorted. Like it is not bonded. Can you check yours to see if it is? Thanks
Man it is almost impossible to figure out which one of these is the best... SO many variables to consider! Just when I think I've found a "big enough" solution that'll power our 50A 5th wheel, I realize it's too tall to fit in my truck bed or too wide to fit in the formed slot under the RV storage areas. I'm hoping this smaller unit (or better yet TWO OF THEM) is the answer. My only concern is that the smaller size means a smaller fuel tank and I'm not super excited about having to go put gas in it every 2 hours... Does the fuel injection solve problems for high altitude use? I assume it would as most fuel injection systems can adjust air/fuel ratios automatically
Fuel injection helps with better starting and better efficiency but does nothing for high altitude. Carb or EFI will still loose engine power because air is less dense. Less air, less fuel, less power. About 3.5% per 1000ft of power loose happens. Unless you have a turbo or supercharger then like anything it will suffer loss in power. But overall efi is better all around by about 10-15%
@@johnnysweekends i understand that, but the efi should be able to adjust air / fuel ratio to prevent it from running rich at high altitude right? I know it will still be less efficient
@carperdiem8754 yes correct it will do that and will run overall better than a carb model. It will still start easier and run better and have the correct fuel mixture at altitude but yea like mentioned of course less power. I did do this altitude test using Honda and even the prototype genmax at the end. Might be useful info Honda Eu3200i Does Fuel Injection work at High Altitude? ua-cam.com/video/tyxvoqu8YGw/v-deo.html
At the moment it seems no worse than other companies as well. But I do know they hired the main customer service manager from A-I power to take over and revamp CS through out Genmax. So maybe they will get better overall.
How about they come with a single dual fuel 240 volt capable inverter generator that weighs 60 pounds or less that would be great. I don’t like the idea of dragging two smaller generators to get 240 volts. The A-iPower GXS7100iRD 7100W Dual Fuel Inverter Generator is almost there but weighs a little over 120 pounds, just about the same for the two GENMAX 4600iAEFC needed for 240 volt.
It’s only if you use an electric start battery powered fuel pump. The pump they use it powered only when the generator starts or is starting to rotate. I assume the line has to stay pressurized with a valve. Will see when the other model comes out in a few weeks if you watched the last part
@@machaf Yah, ask Honda why the damned thing never starts... and why they completely dishonored there "three year warrantee". Worst generator I've ever owned.
No I haven’t. They have estimated run times but it’s varies with 1/4 load 1/2 load. It’s a nice gen just louder than I was expecting. I hoped they were gonna make it quieter but it’s the same as older generations and gets loader above the 60% load area
In this unit the carb looking thing could be utilized as basically a throttle body and port injection since the injector is at the back of the carb and the injectors are not in the body of the carb. So more like port injection but not direct.
@@johnnysweekends That's correct but even if the injection isn't throttle body injection the thing that you're discussing is still called the throttle body. This is true if it's throttle body injection, port injection or direct injection. It is literally the body that holds the throttle.
@DoRC Yea I would agree. Most now everything is just a round housing and butterfly valve to control air intake. So yea I guess this would just be the same. But a modified carb body. 👍🏼
I want to like this generator but it doesn't have a feature that ever one is looking for in a generator these days Especially in the camping and nomad community which is duel fuel its hard to believe that they would dumb this up propane is a cleaner and better fuel source because it can be stored for a long time.
True but have to remember this unit is fuel injection and has the ability to be used as a 240 volt unit as well. Need two of course. But the pulsar DF has been a popular unit and doing well. I really like that size
I wish Honda would do something like this I have 2 3000 inverter Gens Would be the first to buy if they made it Does anyone know if anything is Available to Get 240 ???
Typically no because it’s impossible to ship used units once gas and oil are in them because shipping hazards. I mostly help my friends/family and give them super discounts or just lend them out if someone needs one
If you want a generator that runs without a battery don't buy this unit!... if you don't want to have to fiddle with a carburetor and want electronic fuel injection, except the fact that it has to have a battery!
I'm not to pleased to learn that these engines utilize aluminum cylinder liners. In fact after checking most of the leading brands of inverter generators out there, 90% of them use aluminum cylinder liners. From what I've heard, the larger Honda inverters use Steel liners, giving you much longer engine life. Aluminum is used to reduce cost and weight, but not used to enhance engine life. To bad really. I remember when aluminum cylinders liners made it into the lawn mower engines many years ago and they started burning oil within about 40 so hours of time on them. Aluminum didn't work on the motorcycles either. Nickleseal coated steel liners would be the way to go on the inverters, but being it cost more, would probably not be used either.
I do not trust a survival tool when it keeps adding electronics 🤷🏽♂️ Carburetors can be cleaned and worked on with simple tools Efi systems need a computer to diagnose problems I like the tech but not so much on a tool ment to help in a survival/emergency situation 🤷🏽♂️
@michaelfoster3441 says unavailable but not a bad price but not as small and not fuel injection. So depends if you need a larger unit that is not as portable.. Both made by GenMax but the EFI unit has the series port as well if you ever wanted 240v. Of course you need two though.
@@johnnysweekends TRY TO MANUALLY PULL THE CHOKE ON THE TOP OF THE CARB OR INJECTOR, BECAUSE THE THE SOLINOID THAT CONTROLS THE VALVE WITHIN WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT ANY 12V SUPPLY, IF YOU MANUALLY TURN THE CHOKE ON, THERE IS NO NEED FOR 12V POWER RIGHT?? I am not sure with fuel injectors, but definitely 100% working with carburetors. based on my experience. here in PH we don't have FI generators yet. but I am very interested to this new technology!! HOPE IT HELPS YOU SIR.
No this doesn’t work and that’s not how fuel injection works. There is no butterfly choke. And if there is no power to operate the fuel pump and pressurize the injector then it will not fire because the injector won’t activate to let fuel in. They need a current that activates it when you pull the cord. And it does not. You could add any 12v source but with out a battery you are a no go which is a shame
As usual this generator still doesn't work... does it seem to be sold on Amazon and you're $60 off isn't working on Amazon!...haha nothing new here! No negative on you personally
But yea I’m waiting to hear on the new version that starts with a dead battery. Or no battery. I don’t know which it really is. Not sure why they couldn’t have all in one but they said CA CARB thing makes it difficult. Idk why though
@@johnnysweekends you're asking too much of the machine! Electrical fuel injection has to have a battery, the computer that controls all the variables to adjust the fuel injection has to have a battery to operate the control module. @@johnnysweekends thanks if i decide to pull the trigger that will be only way to do it i guess.
Would you make a video on remote starting seeing alot of reviews you cant start it with remote start you have to first start with push button on unit then you can stop with remote but then after a little bit you cant start with remote have to go back to unit to start it. If thats the case it not worth it not true remote capabilities. Thanks
I will double check that. Will be a couple weeks as I’m on vacation and then headed to Vegas for CES
I was just looking at this generator on Amazon yesterday and now today the listing is gone. Any idea what happened?, Recall maybe?
Amazon likes to play games with generators when they are new to see if they are eligible for sale in all states. Verses Walmart is easier and has a store to return… try here and see if it’s still there. If not that means already out of stock CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS HERE..goto.walmart.com/0Z53BY
Your California link doesn't work. Seems all small portable GenMax electric starts are not available in CA.
Go to Walmart as amazon seems to make there own rules. But could be out of stock
@@johnnysweekends Walmart lists it as sold and delivered by Northern Tool and Northern Tool said in print and by phone Not Available in California.
@wam7484 wow bummer, they must of not paid for CARB certification

@@johnnysweekends awesome, ty for the help
Is amazon no longer selling this model?
Use the Walmart link. Amazon loves to decide what can be sold and what cant especially in CA
So if I have a 4000watt can I link it to this 4600watt or do that need to be the same size ?
You can link both but you will only double the power of the smaller unit
Can you show is the battery? I had a pulsar and was disappointed in the battery it came with
Can you swap out the battery for a sealed lead acid battery?
I dont see why not but not sure if the charging voltage will be to high for lead acid. So that’s a own risk thing
there is a lot of bad review on that co. did you find it to be true. love this gen GENMAX GM4600iAEDC
I know would be nice but you would be getting like 12-13 amps per leg only. So won’t t take much to over load it
What is the run time?
They didn’t have run times posted and I haven’t tested
EFI typically needs a power source
Yes most times. The Honda does not but doesn’t have remote or electric start
Says who? Ask Honda how they managed to do it.
What’s up with it ? I’m hearing a couple more problems
Have you had a chance to do a run time on a full tank?
No I haven’t. They have estimated run times but it’s varies with 1/4 load 1/2 load. It’s a nice gen just louder than I was expecting. I hoped they were gonna make it quieter but it’s the same as older generations and gets loader above the 60% load area
In a fuel injected engine the carburetor looking thing is called a throttle body.
Lots of new versions coming and plenty of dual fuel options as well. But EFI has no effect on propane.
Seems like Pulsar 4000 dual fuel is way better value. Can run two for the price of one Genmax.
True but have to remember this unit is fuel injection and has the ability to be used as a 240 volt unit as well. Need two of course.
But the pulsar DF has been a popular unit and doing well. I really like that size
What's the purpose of the battery in that generator? It seems like it cannot start without the battery.

Does the generator charge its own battery?
Yes the generator will charge battery
Yess! 👍🏼
Will Genmax offer a fuel injected dual fuel version of this generator?
Idk but fuel injection doesn’t help propane units
I wish Honda would do something like this I have 2 3000 inverter Gens Would be the first to buy if they made it Does anyone know if anything is Available to Get 240 ???
A fair number of tepid reviews on Amazon.
Hi, you ever sell your generators to your followers ?
Typically no because it’s impossible to ship used units once gas and oil are in them because shipping hazards.
I mostly help my friends/family and give them super discounts or just lend them out if someone needs one
Seems like your coupon has expired and very limited choices to purchase
It was back ordered and yea the discount code is only valid for so long
If you want a generator that runs without a battery don't buy this unit!... if you don't want to have to fiddle with a carburetor and want electronic fuel injection, except the fact that it has to have a battery!
I use non ethanol fuel
Pretty sure this is steal sleeved I may have mentioned aluminum bore but I was wrong if I did.
I do not trust a survival tool when it keeps adding electronics 🤷🏽♂️
Carburetors can be cleaned and worked on with simple tools
Efi systems need a computer to diagnose problems
I like the tech but not so much on a tool ment to help in a survival/emergency situation 🤷🏽♂️
Good for certain things…. Small food trucks and more but for emergency items I’ll stay carb for now.
Amazon link to this generator no longer works.
That's pretty expensive for only 3800 running watts and no start without the battery .
What other options would be good?

Both made by GenMax but the EFI unit has the series port as well if you ever wanted 240v. Of course you need two though.
@johnnysweekends Thank you that's very understandable
Sir, you can actually start that generator even without battery.
Do you have one? Mine will not.
@@johnnysweekends Sir, Pls let me know if that works to you! thankyou
Ow. Ok. So this could only be done to carb type..
Now i got some knowledge on efi engines.. thankyou very much
Nice but, way to high $$$$

Your paying for fuel injection so more efficient. But nothing wrong with that pulsar unit

Hold on to your wallet if you ever need to replace any EFI parts vs a non-EFI new replacement $50 carburetor!
As usual this generator still doesn't work... does it seem to be sold on Amazon and you're $60 off isn't working on Amazon!...haha nothing new here! No negative on you personally
Go to Walmart page it’s for sale there. Amazon loves to make their own rules on items for sale. Especially if it’s CA compliment
Electronic ignition operating from a battery can produce a much higher voltage hotter spark for quick starting! Now you're asking them to add on a fixed flywheel magneto for a second ignition source! You're making them turn this into aviation aircraft standards!
