You should get a wood stabilization kit and you can take those smaller burl pieces and cut them up into knife scale size generally like 1"x1.5"x5" stabilize them sell them online. Burl and spalted woods can fetch you a decent price. 25-50 bucks for each one so you can make a few extra bucks on what may end up being scrap pieces. Just a thought.
Video editing is getting bit goofy with the graphics etc. Just my 2 shekels.
Thanks for the video. Now I have an idea of how my two mulberry burl trees will look. I'd say their twice if not three times that size. If you know someone who would be interested in one or both please feel free to contact me.
John what is that dental floss tied around the tree 🌳 used real rope
That mouse @11:15 was 1/4" away from being cut in half. That's one lucky mouse
I think it was 'relocated' to heaven.
Not to lucky mouse.
john: "im going to cut a wedge"
also john: *proceeds to make a straight crosscut*
Thought he was going for a Humboldt and was thinking bold move. Not sure what was gone for in the end. Nobody died, awesome slabs, that's technically a win.
Be warned, that colour won’t stick around long, the surface will oxidize to a very dark almost reddish colour until it’s sealed with a poly or such
I like the red better but that's just me
even sealed, it still gets dark brown.
@@FuriousGeorge_67 it needs a UV resistant poly or clear coat that will block oxygen
Ahhh... Sunday morning! Coffee, John and a laugh. Thanks! By the way... if you're taking votes... I vote you get that big COE truck that used to put explosives in ditches. How could you find a truck more perfect for you? Restore that thing, have your business put on in by a vintage sign painter... It's 100% you!
Instead of grabbing explosives and setting them in the ditch, it could grab logs!!
@@MaximusMuleti 100%! I would even donate to that restoration fund!
Damn that mouse was lucky. Hope she finds a nice new home for her babies.
Sam's clearly a boyscout. Every boyscout in America (and probably the world) tells the exact same story about what a bowline is for. And you need to to be able to tie it one handed, in case you fall down a cliff and break both your legs and an arm.
So good to see Sam back in a video! I was missing his face.
The part with Sam was from 3 weeks before the sawmill portion was filmed, I have been suspecting he left. I hope not.
@@GreeNova He did leave. He posted on instagram a few weeks ago
that mini heart attack on seeing the mouse and it's baby - omg so glad it was still alive _phew_ animal lover at heart and have saved numerous mice from my cats over the years. amazed it didn't die from the shock/noise of the mill!
otherwise; can't wait to see the projects you come up with for these slabs + what you do with those cookie off-cuts!
Mulberry is in the fig family, Moraceae. Mostly they are considered weed trees and it is unusual to see one that big. The burl was awesome.
Really? Hmmm that's odd, where I grew up in the midwest ours got 4-5ft thick
I have two mulberry burl trees that blowers that tree away. I have pictures to prove one and can get proof of the other, I just can't see to find a way to add them here.
Really? Here in Nebraska we love them! They do grow like weeds though. I have one probably 4 ft in diameter
Isn't mulberry technically a bush? Or at least that's how the song goes...😁
Always love saw mill content! The smaller offcuts of the burls could be sold to knifemakers for scales! Burl always make for some beautiful handles
That's funny I wrote the same thing lol would love to get my hands on some malecki burl scales lol
I can't wait few years from now when we will finally see some of these slabs in action.
@4:33 love that '49 GMC - this was one of the first model kits I built as an adult - and by that I mean careful assembly, gap/seam filling, some modding like replacing molded engine and dash parts with photo etched brass, real wood bed, etc.
Go for that Mack truck, that was unique and massively cool!!!
Good to see Sam. He was absent from videos for a while.
I first found your channel through other woodworking channels, then heard a n@t then a dahn, then yinz and realized I came to the right place.
"schfifty five", man, that takes me back. Also super glad the mice made it. That had to be terrifying.
SAM!! We’ve missed you!
I thought someone said Sam moved on to other things…I’m really glad he’s still here!
He did, but we started this video before he left
@@John_Malecki awe, well I wish him all the best definitely sad to see him go.
I'm actually kinda surprised that little mouse didn't get ripped up. it's a good thing you decided to make larger cuts! something bigger at work came into play!
Sam is here! HI Sam!
(I'd saw in the comments of a previous video he'd moved on, but couldn't confirm)
Nice looking tree!
Absolutely love the sawmill videos! Keep it up, John! Something I have a ton of interest in.
I make jewelry boxes and this would make a beautiful one!
Wow that was some lucky mouse. Beautiful wood.
Remember boys! If you can’t tie a knot, tie a lot! Lol love your content! Always a good laugh. Go John and go Steelers!
AMAZING looking wood, John! Congrats!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
In the future could we possibly see a solar Kiln build? It could help with the drying process and energy efficient!
Was thinking the same thing
Wow, cool mouse…I mean cool tree
they're not really out of order. that's how they control how much fuel they sell so less is needed to fill the tanks when the truck comes.
I’ve worked with some mulberry before. Beautiful wood. Hard as hell and super durable after it’s dried. It does not play nice with hand tools, especially planes.
Very cool wood, can't wait until it dries and see what you do with it!
That’s a money maker right there. And I always enjoy your crazy antics. Cheers
Jason: if I fall down a cliff I'm dead...lmao
mulberry changes color as it is exposed to the atmosphere, pretty cool
very beautiful wood grain. Wowsers that is definitely unique an very cool. I would love to see that truck build and more on that idea. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends Fab On. Weld On. Build On. Stay squirrely. Keep Making. God Bless.
Maybe one of Pete’s restoration truck could be a shop truck. Able to grab parts, meat for smoking, diapers, etc.
I would like to put down some harm reduction info if you don’t mind: John, you do realise could have died when the rope snapped? When using any form of high tension rope / cable, please ensure you stand further than the length of the rope / cable from both anchor points. When they snap they can literally take limbs off or end a life in a flash. I am so happy nothing serious happened. At least the operator was in a metal cage you were out in the open: I damn near crapped my pants
I thought the same thing 😖
Sam must be an Eagle Scout 😂
Hola! 🖐Looks like loads of fun over there. Can't wait to see what some of these slabs magically become. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
I just recovered a big ass mulberry on my neighbors property. Doing a video on it myself.
That was some beautiful wood. It was great to see Sam.
This weekend on Sunday Morning Wood, the guys find some burley burl, and the boys get squirrelly before even touching any wood at the shop!
Looking forward to seeing a project with these slabs in a year or so.
Would love to get some of those smaller cookies!
Imagine a wall clock made out of one of those... ❤
@@MCsCreations lol, that's actually what I was thinking :)
That 72 is exactly what my dad had. Green color and everything. Until he hit a deer with it at 70 mph.
I absolutely ran to subscribe to his channel. Thank you so much for the recommendation bubba.
John. I’d be interested in some burl caps for wood turning
Awesome! That little rascal just had his luckiest day!
i can just hear Minnie & Mickey's conversation when he came home...
Mickey: "Hi honey, how was your day?"
Minnie: "Oh, you ain't gonna believe this shit!"
As a wood turner, it broke my heart to see you cut that burl into thin slices
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has issues starting chainsaws. Most finicky machines.
Especially the new Stihl M tronic saws.
Right? you'd think now that it's 2022 you'd just have to push a button to start machines up. Nope, still a string pull and a helluva workout.
That first slab would make a cool mirror
Mulberry is a nice wood. It does start yellow but turns reddish when it ages.
I cut down I cypress tree a couple months ago with baby squirrels in a hole up top. I think they were squirrels anyways, could have been rats. Hope you can find a kiln to dry the mulberry, I just got my nyle l200m set up last week in a reefer container. It's been in storage a year waiting on money to finish the setup lol
A wild Sam appears
What a beautiful wood that is!
That's what she said.
We have a lot of Mulberry and Osage out here in the Midwest. I've seen a few that get that Burling. I know they burn hot in brush fires.
YAY! Sam was in this video! I feel like we haven't seen him in months 😊
He did quit and take another job haha
@@John_Malecki oh I guess I missed that.. ☹️ Is he back, or was he just visiting?
Sheets being out of gas is a prime reason WaWa is and always will be superior
Awesome stuff John! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Dueling chainsaw startup is riveting content, my friend!!!!! Pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull. But Sam has yer back!!!! "It started this morning." LMFAO!!
Awesome slabs! That's also one lucky mouse!
The little slabs make cool clocks
Great content thanks for sharing
Appreciate all of your badass videos Go Steelers!!!
8:51 that would make a nice wooden shield [shape wise]...
Pure gold baby 😁🇨🇦🇺🇸
schfifty five...man thats a deep cut!I have not heard that in a WHILRE! In fact i am going to watch the video after this
@john_malecki do you seal this wood before doing epoxy? I did a small coffee table first project and every layer of resin (tabletop) had bubbles coming through from the wood. Thanks for the info!
That looks amazing.
as a fellow Pennsylvanian, sheetz is where its at!!!
I would love to have a small piece of that to make a cutting board it is beautiful. Keep up the great work love your videos
My daughter suggested you guys make shirts that say “ Eat- Sleep- Cut Slabs- Repeat” or possibly “Eat- Sleep- Get Squirrely - Repeat”… I told her if you make them, we will buy and take family pics in them!
I’ll buy some of the small cutoffs and make pens to go with the table you make with it.
Omg, the trucks!!!
Like I said in the past video for a shop truck idea. 6th gen f250 4 door lifted. Massive and reliable truck!! Would be perfect for the shop and all the ass-clownery 😂
Check out Guilty of Treeson UA-cam channel. Jake does all kinds of videos on tree felling, climbing, trimming, and anything tree related. He collaborates too so maybe you could get him up there to cut down a tree if you have an interesting tree that you need professionally felled.
That's beautiful
I am a tree guy mulberry is a beautiful wood. It has a golden glow to it on my firewood racks
John, try Power Crunch protein bars. Pretty low sugar, high protein, and way better texture and taste in my opinion.
Beautiful wood
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…..
I love that your mill is named after an X-Men 🤣
A stool made out of those small cookies would be pretty cool
I need one of those cookies 🍪 so I can try making a ocean table
Arboristfail right there. 😂 Who could have figured that a twine would snap then pulling that trunk over. Glad nothing broke.
My Sunday morning schedule involves watching the weekly upload during breakfast 👍🏻
Those little cookies are gorgeous
"We are sex-Bob-Omb!" John Malecki, you're my hero.
How would we get a small cap cookie? I would love to get a small piece of the figured burl to make a pen or two out of!
That sheetz looks exactly like the one in my town 😂
Oh joy new house for the mice in your shop.oh boy,oh boy.beautiful wood man.
Yay Sam is back!
I think this was filmed a while ago as he's definitely still working at his new place & doing plenty at home which is keeping him busy if you check out his insta or personal UA-cam channel
Also note the blade comment, they were struggling very early on in getting the mill set up but now it's totally dialed in with blades they are happy with so shows it was right at the beginning of them having the mill
Fingers crossed! Mulberry, well, she likes to move!
That mouse would have made the most awful mess. Glad it survived. Interesting wood, for free? What a find!
My favorite day...Slab Sunday!
We went electric chain saw and we can drop BIG pecans and Bois D'Arc trees with them..... I prefer to get tired working to starting the saws!
On your next snack adventure you should try a go macro bar. They are pretty tasty
if i would be in your place, i would ask the other youtuber to repair the 1945 Mack, put a flatbed on it with a hinch, and there you go, a shop truck :D
Small plaque slabs to sell would be cool
