EXTENDED: Chris Harris vs Colin McRae's WRC Subaru Impreza | Top Gear
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 чер 2020
- Going sideways takes many forms. There's the artist - Colin McRae - World Rally Champion who somehow won myriad rallies without wipers on his side windows. And then there's your mate's Corsa with milk-crates under the rear wheels. Comparing the two is like taste-testing your Nan's lasagne against a plate of cold toad. Impossible.
And that's why, in Series 28, Chris Harris presented a piece all about Colin's journey to becoming WRC champion, and not a film about your mate Reg's VXR. Here's Harris getting behind the wheel of the very car that took McRae to the podium.

Shoutout to whoever edited that shot at 2:16.
Brought back memories of my childhood man
That tarmac spec car. Beautiful.
Indeed! Beautiful scene swaps, very well done. Props!
jon doe jesus christ shutup
@jon doe Your name is misspelled.
It doesnt feel like top Gear tbh, its Chris Harris Drives
And I am glad he Finally got the budget to drive things like that
@jon doe Love this bloke rofl, literally every TG video he's here commenting and giving people grief
@@Stator720 the bloke is deluded, 1000+ comments on this channel telling Top Gear to sack Chris Harris. Needs to grow up.
@@DMT09, he’s deleted all the comments, cowardice if you ask me
MAGIC. The sound alone brings back great memories
agree, and someone decided to play music over it....
Im 12 I didnt know bout this car
This sadly Will never come back ..
The best thing he's ever done in a car and you give us 3 minutes of it?
I'm not sure about that. The P1 at yas marina was pretty special. I think we need the full Subaru video for a fair comparison.
Totally agree..
With music over it so you can't hear the car.
@jon doe lmaoooooo. I'm sure you're better mate
jon doe that’s why he races gt3 cars then cos he’s a shit driver
Legendary car.
Legendary driver.
The perfect pairing.
jon doe Think he meant Mcrae
@@thomashayhurst6547 so you think Chris Harris is a
legendary driver? He's no where near legendary status he is a great driver don't get me wrong but he is not anywhere near legendary.
@@ngametuawilliam5152 I wasn't saying that. Also I'm pretty sure the original commenter meant McRae. I know Harris isn't the greatest driver ever but he's good enough to have competed in races like the spa 24 hours. Anyway I was simply telling this pathetic excuse for a troll to hang up his keyboard and let some trolls that are actually good to come in.
@@thomashayhurst6547 He is good driver on tarmac but for dirt road and rally car he can use maby 40% of that cars true capability.
@@tomkavanagh1040 Yes you're correct.
Almost brought a tear to my eye. I had the pleasure of meeting a quite (very) tippsy Colin at Rally Australia in 1997 at a pub after the local team I was crewing for crashed out. Legend.
Envy, keep kicking ass Cap'n
I met both McRae and Grist during Rally NZ 1998. Lets just say that Colin liked to do his talking on rally special stages.
2:16 old times are really great
@jon doe such an imbasole
Whoever edited it at 2:16 needs an Oscar right now
It’s brilliant!
@jon doe You're pathetic.
@jon doe And what exactly have you done with your pathetic unimportant little life? Fast laps on the xbox don't count.
You have one pathetic little comment and think by saying it over and over and over again somehow makes you important. It doesn't.
@@bazonka1 dont insult his life
@@OfficialEntertainnmentHub what, might I upset the poor little twit?
God bless Colin McRae's soul, but I'd also like to give a big hand to Carlos Sainz, the man is another living legend and looks like he hasn't aged much at all.
dude’s still out there winning Dakar rallies, while his son is a future Ferrari F1 driver, what more can you ask
That's even better to see him talking about Colin is even better
Though I own one of these old imprezas and sometimes it gets efforts to keep it together...but everytime I take the corner and put the pedal to the metal, I say to myself...I'll wont sell it... This thing got's its own true unbeatable character..like true japan sword - thats what it is
I'm exactly the same, the smile they put on your face is unreal & can't see myself ever selling mine.
I was a teenager when Colin McRae was driving, then died. Richards Burns passed away too. It was an awesome part of my teenaged years, but also tinged with sadness.
My dad was a great rally driver and sometimes actually was in the same competitions as Colin
2020 and still hard to believe that we will never see Colin McRae in rally anymore
R.I.P. LEGEND !
the McRae family have a lot of faith in Chris to be letting him drive it in the same style that Colin would. I'm sure if he were given permission, he'd wring its neck and give it 11/10th's just like Colin would have too. 😮🇦🇺
I think it’s because Colins father understands it should be shared with the world and not locked away. Either way we should be grateful.
@@OggaDugga Exactly. And Jimmy knows how good Chris is, not just as a driver but as a communicator. There are only a tiny handful of motoring journalists worldwide who could combine those two roles as well for this car.
Dirt 2.0 I can not not pick this. Every time!!!
That crossover to 2:14 brought so many memories.
Wow. Chris Harris is killing it! I bet the McRae's won't let even the original trio drive this gem! With Chris Harris onboard, expect to see cars like this to be driven like Chris does.
The Bark of the Flat Four brings back memories of watching McRae, this was and will always remain his mount. Its like a piece of him he left behind.
How is three minutes extended? Chris needs to shed the Top Gear fools.
The preview was two minutes.
Video length 3:13
"extended"
as a German i can say that the Subi Engine is a wonderfull peace of mechanical engineering, love this boxer.
This one yeah, however every STI in my town has blown up about 10 times lol. Usually within 60k miles.
@Imprezaactual
Don't the North American STIs have the 2.5 liter engine?
Because the rally version has a variant og the 2.0, so the "Scubi engines blowing up" thing might just be a difference between the EJ257 and the EJ207.
Very emotive piece of film and you guys did Colin proud. Close to tears near the end thinking back to Colin's immensely sad and far to soon exit from motorsport and life. A great idol to me from the playstation 1 era, he opened rally up to a whole new generation.
I could watch hours of this! More please!
Extended? I can only imagine the short version.
- Colin mc rae in the impreza, in that imp...
- Top Gear, subscribe
This Impreza along with the Group B Quattro are the very image of rallying!
Wow, that's the actual car! So cool. Thanks McRae's! I miss my wrx and Colin this is some combination in this video!
Wow thanks BBC for overlaying some of the most iconic rally car sounds ever created with orchestra music..
Colin McRae! ...man was he someone I wanted to be...
I'll never forget watching him role his Impreza in the 2006 X Games and still finish a tight second to Pastrana.
Seriously! --- Roles his car --- Still finishes down only .13 of a second --- Epic!!!
Finally a "new" Top Gear worth watching. This is great!
Owned Subaru Impreza for 3 beautiful years. For entire 3 years every time I drove it I felt exactly the same as Chris during this video. Going into the woods, gravel or snow, even with 20-40 MPH turns this car into pure endorphin pumping machine thanks to sound and very mechanical & direct feeling of this car. Even my wife who is just normal daily driver, every time she got into Subaru, had chills driving it. I'm really glad that I've had this experience in my life.
PS I'm driving Subaru Outback now - more a family car, not as fast and way more quiet, but fun in the corners is still the same :-)
What a legendary driver. RIP Colin Mcrae, gone but never forgotten.
Especially in my scottish family who are related to the mcraes😢
I just watched this full episode. This was a very interesting and epic segment. I've never been much for rally, yet I was glued to my seat👍
Watching this makes me smile and tear up at the same time. Well done Chris.
Loved Colin and the 555 Scoobies, thanks for the nostalgia!
I love the sound. Music to my ears. 😍
Growing up watching Colin make history & the sound is exactly why I bought one at the first opportunity & I don't think I'll ever get rid.
This is a legendary episode, well done Chris Harris you motoring racing legend.
New Top Gear has had its ups and downs, but this is arguably the best bit of the show since 2016.
It was this car why i love wrc. Actually it is. Its crazy that this is that car, That legend and it still drives. Thats brilliant.
Those were the times...I followed WRC more than F1, or any other sport in the world. Juha Kankkennen, Tomi Makkienen, Carlos Sainz...and my favourite Colin McRae.
*I ran my Subi into a lake.*
Now, it’s a Scubaru.
i am very Impreza with this comment !
@@iriebtw3737 very drole
Lol...🤣
Chris H. and Nicky Grist on the Collecting Cars Podcast, well worth listening to, lots of McCrae memories.
Loved McRae,started my passion for motorsports
I love this subaru
Wow... I'm getting emotional already in the 1st minute..
This watch is worth a late to work!!.
I'm sitting down and watching this..
I have a 2019 STI....is is about as raw as you can still get for an affordable price in the US market....superb cars still........
Beautiful video and great commentator.....Mr. Harris, thank you. Family of CM, thank you. This is special.
One of my favourite top gear episodes
@jon doe rich coming from you
Curbed one of these in snow so bad that both rims had to changed....And it was my friends....it has a massive power move to rear end that u need to be aware of...it’s a...well, fantastic car....
So much nostalgia. I used to draw the '555' logo over all my school books back in the day.
2:44 is that the same place where the last episode of clarkson, may and hammond were? when jeremy cut in half his frontera to get out of the water?
Looks to be it, great spotting!
Chatsworth!
Wonderful! It's great to see these older cars that won rallies.🎊🎊🎉🎉🇰🇪
Wow. Love it
Top gear and Chris Harris doing a mighty job.. keep it up!
Absolutely criminal that this is only 3 minutes long
2:17 🔥🙏🙏🙏
Just inspired. Spectacular. Love it.

Dude, it’s the best shot in the whole goddamn video
Every guy who got a chance to drove a Subaru rally car will always say:
"i want one of these"
Goosebumps!
This was a great piece by Harris. Definitely an iconic car of the era. Nice work
@Imprezaactual Legend has it he's Jeremy Clarkson
Only Chris and Tiff Needle are worthy of driving Colin’s car. Colin will be a legend. I am a bit older so I grew up with the flying Scandinavians in Group B monsters
Damn, that’s a nice rally GC8, it’s so different from normal GC8’s.
I remember playing on PC Colin McRae Rally 1-2-3 made by Codemasters 1998 (I think....) I used to watch him on Europsport, I was a big fan, I've just ordered his rally car in miniature (Solido 1:18). Tomorrow is my wife's birthday and we will visit Chatsworth House, where Colin McRae won WRC in 1995, I have goosebumps.. :D
I didn't see Chris Harris driving that car, all I could see was King Colin. I still remember the day he won the championship as I was grinning from ear to ear. He was one of my heroes as was the late great Richard 'Burnsie' Burns
Please please please Top Gear....
Give a full episode dedicated to the great Colin McRae..
This short video is just not enough for the emotions to build up n release..
I actually got to see this car in person at a show i went to recently
When it's raining: Professional rally driver.
Other shots: Chris Harris.
When in doubt, flat out! The screaming EJ, sliding around tight fourkets...
Colin McRae may not be the best but his driving sure was mythical.
Colin and Subaru are the reasons why I love rally. This year i'm going to fulfill my childhood dream - owning a Subaru Impreza...
I hope you managed to get one. I did in April 2021 after 27 years of wanting one. I got a Terzo from 1998.
this is amazing i almost cry
One of the best cars ever made love Subaru and McRae was a great driver and dearly missed
Those were the days ...
There are soo many iconic rally cars but for me this sits at the top followed by the celica gt-4 and a few lancia’s and the Renault 5
Great video, what’s extended? Same as before??
Prodrive did a stellar job on that car. I wonder how much of the chassis remained Subaru versus modified?
Not a lot of it, all reinforced and built by Francis Tuthill for Prodrive
Yeah people think it’s a Japanese car, it’s mostly British.
Oh yes I love those cars 😍
Amazing im fine that my intro to McRae was via the racing games thank god for those games
I love the paintings
I almost cried when it comes to the flashback scene
I don’t understand why people dislike the new top gear so much it’s just as knowledgeable if not more.
I think it seems more like a car info show now than 3 mates pratting about between reviewing cars, which the old TG was.
Top Gear is the best
What an nice edit
Absolute legend 💪
Best car n the route is stunning
jon doe
I found another one of your replies
@@WildTheFemboy 1000+ comments on this channel telling Top Gear to sack Chris Harris, he needs to get a life.
Dayle Mossop
Of course he does, I found a bunch of comments telling he sucks or some bullshittery like that and how about the Subaru sucks and shit, I bet he doesn’t know what to do with his life
Tears, I' in tears.
Just frickin dope. I want one too.
This is the car and pilot that started it all for many of us Subaru fans.
Goosebumps
Love you chriss 💚❤️ from jordan
jon doe
You’re back
Why is this only 3 minutes long? Give us a 15-minute _Chris Harris Drives_ version of this. The car deserves it.
It got about 15 min on the show.
Sounds mint!
That's so amasing
The signature and the only stamp of subi
Incredible Video Both My Heroes In This Video 💪👌😍🙏
Its a Classic! No other car wil evolve so much emotions with memories of old sch rallying
It's about juuust a bit further down that point in time when cars reached their peak and everything has been going downhill ever since from a driver's skill and experience point of view. Late 90s and early 2000s had the perfect balance between analogue and digital. There were no sport and eco modes, no launch controls, no different ride settings. Just a big, nice engine coupled with a gorgeous manual gearbox and hydraulic steering. And after 2005 they all started adding electronic handbrakes, cos i guess the stick was too complicated for many people to operate, all sorts of automatic transmission, electronic steering and many completely pointless gadgets, just to justify the price. I really miss those times and cars. And i completely understand the reason why they now cost more than when the first time they appeared.
Evo 6 Tommi makinen next bro!
Chris Harris is the only one keeping Top Gear alive.
Damn, Top Gear is still going? They stopped airing it on BBC America.
1:59 🔥
I am more amazed that Top Gear can force Carlos Sainz to speak English
Brings a tear to any grown ass man’s eye...
And then... the last proper Subaru WRC... the S22B S4 Impreza.. LOVE THAT CAR
22b got nothing to do with the S4 wrc car.
