Chris Harris Introduces The Most Original WRC Car In The World

- The team at Collecting Cars is honoured to present another exceptional auction consignment: the ex-Richard Burns and Robert Reid Subaru Impreza S6 WRC2000, which stormed to victory in the 2000 Rally of Great Britain - a vehicle widely regarded as ‘the most original WRC car in the world’.
The launch of the Impreza on Collecting Cars highlights the new ‘CC R’ premium video offering on the platform, working closely with the owner to produce a captivating short film to showcase this truly remarkable WRC car - narrated by Chris Harris / @ChrisHarrisonCars
Unlike almost any other rally car sold to a customer following competition use, this Impreza S6 was not taken back by Prodrive to be ‘sanitised’ or repaired. Instead, it was plucked directly from the finish line of the 2000 Network Q Rally GB by its first private owner, thereby allowing its originality to be preserved for the 21 years since then.
Storming from the back of the pack to lead the rally by the end of the second leg, and securing a definitive win at the final stage in Margam Country Park in south Wales, Richard Burns reminded everyone of his prodigious talent - and the victory also marked a hat-trick of back-to-back Rally GB wins for him; previously winning in 1998 with Mitsubishi and 1999 with Subaru.
Collected from the final stage by its first private owner, the Impreza S6 retains not only its Rally GB ‘battle scars’, but also the original pace notes as used for the final leg, its FIA Gold Log Book and FIA tags, identification documents, communication headsets, and even energy bars in the door pockets.
As such, this Impreza is widely considered to be the most original ex-Works WRC car in existence, retaining its as-raced bodywork and scarred paint, its original engine and transmission, and even Prodrive’s secret scrutineering page software that enabled a lower rev readout to be displayed in order to pass stringent noise tests.
Spending 18 years in just a couple of private collections, rarely being seen or used, this Impreza remained a fastidiously preserved piece of WRC history. In 2018, it was acquired by the current owner, who had every intention of returning this incredible ex-Works car to a packed crowd to be driven once again.
They commissioned renowned motorsport specialist BGM Sport in Brackley to carry out a comprehensive mechanical recommissioning, taking care to preserve its patina and originality. It was subsequently put through rigorous shakedown testing, and has since participated in a number of events to demonstrate its remarkable performance and patina - not least a prominent position in the hill runs at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where its co-driver was none other than Alister McRae.
Still in excellent mechanical order with around £50,000 invested in its recommissioning, ‘W25 SRT’ is truly one-of-a-kind. Unquestionably one of the best-preserved WRC cars in the world, it also boasts outstanding provenance with its outright win on the Network Q Rally of Great Britain, driven by one of the greatest rally talents of all time.
In preparing this exceptional WRC car for sale, Collecting Cars worked closely with the owner to produce an enthralling short film to convey the emotion of owning and driving it. This is the first film produced by ‘CC R’; a Collecting Cars partnership with automotive cinema specialist Ralle, to create immersive content that truly brings auctions to life on screen. This new offering is now available to other sellers, who can discuss this with the Consignment Team at Collecting Cars.

Jesus Christ guys, WTF, that just gave me goosebumps on another level, to see that car in that location... speechless.
So glad to see that it wasn't just me feeling like that :-) I was genuinely blown away
@@johnodonnell2093 ...that was the era when there was just enough technology, just enough of a link to real world cars, and a cast of drivers with great personalities - truly the halcyon days of modern rallying... Just bloody awesome!!!
The only way to improve the video would be to have Richard behind the wheel!!!
Same, Another level, Amazing car
love your dream build series
100% couldn’t agree more. This was my first remote controlled car, bringing back so many memories.
What a pleasure it was to shoot this fantastic piece of history!
Lots of great shots, but a little too epeleptic editing in the beginning, and music to loud over his voice over, and strange sound from the car.
But I am guessing you worked with a tight scedual, and got a lot of shots in a short time frame, but this should have been a 20 minute Carfection style piece with a lot of talking from Chris.
Epic production and a gem to watch. I imagine it's not just me who got 'the fizz'.
Yeah, just to add another bit of critique: you should probably address the fact I burnt my toast because I was too busy getting goosebumps watching this.
This is pornographic 🤤
Fantastic work team, loved every second of it!
If there is another Top Gear series this year, it would be great to see something commemorating Richard. The only time I remember seeing something significant was on Top Gear during the week he passed away. Also not to forget it is 20 years since his World Title and what would have been his 50th Birthday year.
Can't believe it's been that long
I’ll never forget that day in Wales, travelling between stages. Spotting a blue Impreza in the distance crabbing along, getting closer realising it was Richard Burns in trouble..
This car interests me a billion times more than any current road car. Great video
More Chris Harris content please !
Yes it's true!!!
Just pin this comment to any driving content please 🙌
he wasn't even in the video
"...looks absolutely square jawed fantastic today."
As a die hard fan of all things Porsche and BMW, I wholeheartedly agree with you Chris. Subaru and the myriad of people involved in this car's construction knocked it out of the park. What a fantastic piece of engineering.
I was thinking about Richard and Colin the other day, and today I find this video. What an amazing piece of Rally History. Complete with the cosmetic damage it sustained...
These were my glory days of rallying and it's great to see such an icon car in that scenery, brings it all back standing on a wet hill watching Richard blasting by
Out here in Oz, the equivalent of Burns was an amazing Kiwi rally driver called Possum Bourne, he too drove such a WRX and won pretty much everything doing so, alas he too was taken too soon from the rally scene in a tragic accident (doing a recce), in NZ. I remember watching him drive here in Tassie through the forests - spectacular stuff.
Another legend for sure he could pedal an Impreza !
@@natel5370 He was certainly that indeed. 👍
Was lucky enough to meet Possum a couple of times at the Rally of Melbourne. Even got to hang out with him before the trophy presentation one year. Listening to ROJ popping and crackling through the forests near Melbourne is still a great memory.
@@alistairwhite2906 That would have been quite an experience. I too met him albeit briefly at a checkin point in the dead of the night when he was competing in the Southern Safari Rally here in southern Tassie. I know what you mean by the sound of his WRX. Nothing quite like it.
Possum always used to say: Back it in and stand on it!
Iconic. RIP Burnsie.
I wanna play Snake on that Nokia while Chris drives me round rally stages.
Awesome
Goosebumps mate, what a beauty. Fair play to whoever bought it and kept it as it was/is
What a story with this car. I had an RC version of this very car, and I adored it. In many ways it helped cement my passion for cars to this day.
RIP Richard Burns, watched his entire WRC career, it was sad to see him go the way he did.
Hands down the best era of rallying for me. I grew up watching these cars and driving them in Colin McRae rally and Richard Burns Rally. Lovely to hear it again.
this might be one of the best Subaru video Ever .......... Speechless Mad respect for the owner
Beautifully shot, amazing piece of work guys!😍
Truly intoxicating way to sell a classic. I wonder what Subaru marketing department think about this.....stunning
What a beautiful piece of cinematography
I remember when Subaru made some of the best cars in the world.....The 90's and early 00's, such a great time to be alive.
Every generation has what they consider the car that defined their era. Exiting my teenage years at the end of the 90’s, this was it for me. Great video of letting the car to the talking.
To whoever buys this (as sadly it's not going to be me 😥 )
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Don't restore it. Leave it exactly as is!
No way. This thing needs to be LS swapped, new sound system with bluetooth pairing and voice command, wider body kit, automatic transmission, rear seats for 3 other people, ROAD tires, new red paintjob, wash the dirt off, bigger rear spoiler and lowered suspension. (Edit so that no one comes burn my house down: This is a joke.)
@@F0X_H0UND Lower suspension?? Are you mad! Coil overs wont just do the job. Put it on bags!
@@mk2nathan nah! Cut the springs!
@@RAPIDNISMO That’s a shout!
i mean some rust fixes and protection is probably a good idea so that it can be kept in a museum after we're all long gone
What a car...and what a driver.
Over twenty years on and that car still looks so good and so fast.
Oh My... I am speechless. So many memories watching RB/RR and JK/JR on the stages in these machines...
Absolute stunning piece of work that Subaru was awesome god I miss really in the 90’s
Fantastic videography, well done guys! Shame it was so short!
God dammit I’ve got the shivers, an amazing story and car ❤️
This vid was perfection. Great music, s short precise history, and a great drive. Prefect music engine sound balance too.
Wow amazing 3.40 of goosebumps
Nothing is going to cut it after watching this.....
Top notch cinematography!
What a car!!! Great video and I hope whoever wins the auction is someone who will love and drive it.
Few cars have ever made me physically emotional. But this is it. I was there, when Richard climbed out of the S6 after securing victory. Gone too soon, yet leaving legacies everywhere, he and Colin on maximum attack was utterly beautiful and listening to pops and cracks in the Welsh forests, left a breathless energy in the air. Whoever becomes the next custodian of this masterpiece, should, in my opinion, leave it alone, preserved to honour our hero. RIP Richard. RIP Colin. Long live Scooby. Thank you CC and CH. Now I'm going to have a sit down.
I routinely return to watch this video, it is a work of art, and I hope it never gets lost
arguably one of the best car videos ive seen on youtube ever !!! What a history !!! cheers for bring him back
The sound was orgasmic pardon my praising. Fine tuned looker and a monster. Lolz wouldn't mind driving that baby home but alas she was tuned to the driver.
Considering that car initially caught fire at one point in the same event, it's staggering to see it in such good original condition
sublime piece of automotive history
Why cant this be longer!?! Epic cinematography on an epic subject. Thanks!
Goddamn this video made me nostalgic/melancholic. I sincerely hope the new owner doesn't change anything about this car and just tries to preserve it in this state. Normally I commend people who race the expensive cars they bought, but this is a museum piece.
We recognise some of those roads! 😃
Great video. Amazing driving and perfect shots of the car tearing up those roads.
Epic...just EPIC production values 👌
Fantastic ! What a car ! Brings me back to the good old days of rally ! Such nostalgia !
gave me chills watching this, amazing to see it being used the correct way. anyone know what the background music is?
Nne- Biba Dupont
El wrc más bonito que jamás ha existido y la unidad del gran Richard Burns que en paz descanse
As a drone pilot, hats off to the production crew on this one!! - Such a beaufitul car!! I think the 98 version was slightly better looking... but what a car!!
The most beautiful and carismatic WRC ever! whose carried the Colin Spirit!
One of the most better car of history of the world of racing rallys
A wild Subaru Impreza in its natural habitat ! Gorgeous shooting !
The 90's were something else!
I had to watch that back. Was not expecting THAT!
This video is absolute artistry. What a way to honour the machine and the man who drove it
I had the chance of driving once or twice a 1997 Impreza GT Turbo and, thanks to a friend of us, the very same car accompanied my wife and me the day of our wedding. It is one of those cars which have soul. Magic.
So full of emotions watching this. I love my country!
The editing and cinematography in this video makes me feel things.
Although I strongly dislike how they "dubbed" the sound in this video it still reminds me why I drive a WR Blue car with golden wheels and love it.
Just an awesome video and car. You are very privileged to have driven this and Colin’s wrc car.
Mate that turbo sounds heavenly!
This is the car I automatically think of when the word “rally” is mentioned.
if there ever was a car that screams WRC you are looking at it, I was just taken back in time watching his, every crack and thump was music to my ears! Tremendous A+
Absolutely stunning. Unbeatable turbo spool
Awesome movie. Pleasure car sound... thank ure!
Holy shit, video of the year!!!!!
Oh man! What a treat!
Why can't we have a TopGear with Chris, Catchpole & Jason?? My favourite auto journos! And it will be so amazing!!
That was beautiful... thank you
thank you Mr Harris thank you
I didn't know this car was paddle-shifted. Always thought it had sequential stick. This is so cool.
I think I just saw the most beautiful video I've ever seen
Chris Harris knocking it out the park as usual 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
It's also undeniably one of the most beautiful rally cars in history.
That waste-gate and the overall video AWESOME!
Sheer. BEAUTY!
A MATERPIECE OF ART 🇯🇵
the is really beautifully shot.
The turbocharges "Stututu" gives a smile onto my face :)
My fav. rally car ever.
Great footage and the sound of the turbo whistle pure bliss.
Glorious...
Fantastic piece of content, well done to all those involved. 🔥🙌🏼
the best gear changing sounds
@ralle media - THIS is what automotive cinematic experiences should be. Wonderful job, Chris and the entire team. Carfection has met a worthy competitor. "Holy Sh*t!" indeed.
Epic production! 👏👌
Wow 👌
Hands up for whoever put this video 📹 together!
Gorgeous machine. Love the damage left on it. Wouldn’t change a thing about it. Historic.
We will never see their likes again, neither the drivers or the cars!!! 💙
Hands down I'd say the Impreza is one of the most iconic WRC cars ever made.
Wow...Just Wow R.I.P Richard.. miles miles to early..
Man this Impreza still looks amazing. Classic design
That right there, my dream car..
What a perfect racing car. I dream of owning a 2door.
Lovely, lovely car!!! Good old times!
Pure !ove, bring it to New Zealand. Subaru drivers paradise! RIP, RB, CMacC, PB.
Brings back the memories brilliant
Love sweet lamb and hafren, one of my favorite rally stages.
This car at the SF auto show in 2000 will forever be etched in my brain 🧠 my favorite chassis
Wow the quality of this video exceeded my expectations 😍
That onboard Nokia at the center consol 👍 for extra rigidity strengthening of the chassis.
If you grew up in the 90s you gotta love this car.
