For those with a few extra bucks to spend, adding a supercharger would boost the power/torque by 30%. For the body roll issue, replacing the suspension with the ARB suspension set would help a lot! You may also want to add anti-roll bars to the front and rear.

Just got the 2022 version a month ago, and have used it as my primary commuting vehicle. Absolutely love it, and do not regret buying it despite the shortcomings of speed in highways. Also, the elbow out the window thing is a total vibe, it's the only way I've been driving so far!

@@sherwinh1661 Yes it will. That short wheelbase gives the Jimny a very small turning circle that makes parking a breeze. Plus it will be a conversation piece with every potential client that sees the vehicle. Only if your job entails driving on the highway at speed for long distances does it become a negative to drive a Jimny.

@@ash9x9 According to cars-data it is 9.8 metres though it feels less to me since I turn 180° around in a standard road without any 3-point turns.

I love your review and wholeheartedly agree with your findings. I got my first Jimny in 1980. Replaced it in 1990 and again in 2005. You could call me a fanboy, and I admit loving this little marvel to bits. I used to live on a small Tasmanian Island, so driving long distances was never an issue. My off-roading consisted only with dirt roads and beach travel. I can recommend the Jimny to anyone loving small cars. All three were absolutely reliable, and I had never any problems. I live now in the city, still have my Jimny and would not hesitate to get another Jimny. However, being now 77 years, I would buy an automatic one!

The older models did have some advantages, like windows you wind without power and the rear side windows could be slightly opened. However, my first and second one looked very similar to the new one without the mod cons...

Good fair review. I test drove a manual Jimny a few weeks ago and thought it drove pretty well in quite windy conditions. As you said it’s relative to what you’re used to. I’m driving a 24 year old Mazda sp20 familia with 409000km so the Jimny is a step up. I thought it was pretty quiet also. The only issue is the small boot space and somewhat underpowered engine. Still deciding if I want it. Prices of used ones are coming down here in NZ.

Thanks for video ... exactly what i wanted to know 👍 ... as i'll be using it 99% urban use
so why buy a capable off-roader? am i wasting my money? not making full use of it? ....
well these are my main points ...
    1. sit high is safer - better visibility of traffic ahead that suddenly stops (more delivery riders on motorcycles and more cyclists due to covid-19 - many inexperienced)
    2. it looks like a classic - will not be dated in 5/15 years time nor need to have an up-graded model in 2 years time. plan to be long term keeper.
    3. basic engine/transmission/suspension tech - means easier to maintain & repair. more tech & sensors = $$$ when they don't work
    4. fun - the quirks make it a more engaging driving experience ... cheers

@@clooperman3745 there is a faint whine, you can hear it some of the driving segments in this video if you listen for it. It's not to the point where I've really noticed it and thought it to be a problem over wind/road noise though.

Hi MrPelican, you might have read my earlier reply regarding my long Jimny ownership. My main use still is sedate country driving. I fully applaud your point 1 regarding visibility, I just don't understand the modern trend to make side and rear windows smaller and smaller. It looks like the little Jimny is the last one in its class.

In next few months we’ll have the 5 door version on the roads here in India, 100 kgs heavier in comparison to the the 3 door and a longer wheelbase. Sadly the 3 door was not planned for the local market though it is manufactured, here, for export.

You can improve the body roll, stability and general handling by installing a set of wheel spacers that will extend the wheels to the width of standard vehicles. An automatic gearbox does hunt for gears while at speed though it is a great advantage with off-road handling and driving.

I have the same Jimny Jungle green Auto. There is a fix for having no intermittent wipers you can buy a wiper stalk from a beleano from the wreckers that has the intermittent setting and it fits in the same as the jimny one direct bolt on. As for power I don’t have any issues with that anymore I have a turbo fitted to mine makes over taking much easier I do agree an extra ratio would be nice for highway driving.

@@RyanCaravana considered it many times haha. I've heard it's about $3k NZ for the OME lift installed. My concern is I think that the wheels look too small once you lift, so then you buy new rims and tires, which is more $$. Larger wheels and tires can reduce fuel economy too. You will also void your warranty for suspension. So it's a bit of a commitment. I have heard you can just change the springs with no lift and achieve similar handling improvements though.

Yes, I would recommend it for a beginner driver. It's small. Easy to park and maneuver. Tires are thick so you don't have to worry about damaging them on the curb. Also sitting up high gives you good visibility and will help with driving confidence. Get the car and practice in low traffic environments (early morning/late night), you'll be a great driver in no time. It will start to feel very natural very quickly to you.

Lack of cup holders for both driver and passenger annoyed you, then don’t get Jimny! I put OME 2 inch lift on mine. No more silly body roll and much more stable at high speed. Now its perfect.

People over react the body roll. Of course it's not an Mazda MX5, but it's really not bad at all.

It depends on what your needs are. I live on a very small island and there are no major freeways, and i rarely need to drive in between 80-100 kph. this seems like that perfect car for me, cant wait to get my hands on one.

The way you look down on Suzuki is spectacular, considering the reliability of the transmissions of the models you mentioned are yet to be proved and thar has already shown some reliability/quality issues
