One of the best reviews on Filson. I love how your review is built. You put a lot of work in it. I'm from Germany and have bought this jacket pretty much without knowing what I bought. Your review helped me understand the history and the value of this unique jacket. Fantastic job.
@@bengworldwideadventures Klasse, vielen Dank. Ich hatte im Frühjahr auch eine schwarze Jacke bestellt, die war aber völlig unbrauchbar, weil die so stark getränkt war, daß ich sie unmöglich tragen konnte. Da freue ich mich auf den nächsten HH Besuch 👍
Great discussion points on this video brother. Definitely enjoy the color and cut of this jacket. I have had the F&T hanging in the closet for years and I never wear it. I appreciate all your hard work and dedication to the channel. Glad to have a place to go that answers the questions in the back of our minds who enjoy these brands!
Thank you!! I really like to dig deep into these iconic garments!! I always say there is no such thing as the right choice; there is what you like, and you can afford
I’d say out of the brands u mentioned. 1. Freenote cloth 2. Filson 3. Rogue territory 4. Flint and tinder The king of all waxed jacket will always be the Ship John Wills tho !! Iron and resin are very nice also ! And so is Tin Duck !
Yes, Ship John is top notch. I just don't like extremely long waits. I also got a nice Bridger jacket from Pack Animal and must say it has a great cut, style, and nice liner. Really has been my go to for daily wear in winter and motorcycle riding. Lot of bang for your buck
I just checked Ship John on your recommendation and they have almost no items in stock. Seems like a poor business model. I won’t be buying from them because there is nothing to buy. 😂
Hi! It is a very personal decision, but from my point of view, I think the Filson is the perfect balance between how it looks and its functionality; the Filson is aesthetically pleasing, and you are going to have a lot of compliments.
@@UrbanLadUK but it seems like you lean more towards the Freenote. For me I actually would like a chocolate color of these garments, since I think the filson color and most of the freenote are too yellow/beige, which I think is a boring color. I am surprised brands haven't done a rich chocolate color. Interestingly, but probably of much lower quality, Thursday Boot Co does a waxed chocolate jacket. Check it out and let me know what you think.
@@UrbanLadUK I bought the Filson from the store yesterday and wore it all day and night. I love it. Got it in Dark Brown which goes well with shoes and boots!
I really do love my Filson tin cloth cruiser jackets. I have this tan and also black, and they are really good for hard use, and in my opinion gets much better with wear and patina. The color darkens and I really like the feel when it gets worn in. Large looks great on you. I have XL and if I ever get another it will be Large, but I like it for colder weather with a thicker liner type under. You really got lots of waxed jacket content now. lol.
This jacket got me when I had it in my hands, my friend's jacket. It's really nice when showing the results after wearing it!!. Yeah I build a collection 😉
It's beautiful, a real classic. I'm between Medium and Large in most true to size brands,, and always wear size Small in Filson outerwear and shirts. The higher price of the Freenote waxed Riders jacket is justified by the luxurious flannel liner and the extra features such as the gusseted back and the pleats, which are more complex and time consuming to manufacture. I own and love the Freenote, I'm glad I chose it over the Filson for a short cruise or rider style waxed jacket. For a longer lighter waxed jacket that I needed, I ended up going for the one of the less well known but superb Schaefer Outfitter Western styled jackets, namely the High Plains Drifter. They make various styles, lined and unlined, that are a great value and compare favourably to anything on the market, as long as you like the roomy fit and the Western styling. They make a great alternative to Burberry of you don't want or are tired of the ubiquitous English countryside style, and don't need the zip-in accessories like liners and hoods.
@@UrbanLadUK Yes, the shipping is very high, but I factored it in and it still came out a good value compared to other similar quality brands on the market. I live in Switzerland, the customs aren't too high either, and of course the Swiss franc is strong compared even to the US dollar. IIRC they could not reduce the shipping costs when I asked, but often brands that use Shopkeep or Shopify to manage online sales can manually adjust the shipping if asked, as the automatic calculations at checkout are well above the actual price of the shipping companies they use. I make it a habit to ask !
I really don't know what size to get I've got really broad shoulders I'm 511 198 athletic build I usually wear an extra large t-shirt or long sleeve shirt and have just a little room to be comfortable I read somewhere that these jackets run small and that I should get a extra large and some say large so I really don't know I want to have just a little room I don't plan on making many layers of clothing probably a T-shirt and a long-sleeve shirt at best but at the same time I don't want it super snug either
Hi!! The right size is large if you have 44 inches (112 cm) in the chest or less. Measure your chest under the armpit usually works this measurement unless you have a belly. I hope this helps. This jacket is not stretchy, is not roomy, but I think Xl for you is going to be too big
@UrbanLadUK just making sure even if you have broad shoulders with the build that I have? Kind of a boxer build little thicker through the neck and traps
@UrbanLadUK also for comparison I do wear an extra large in the free note tin cloth Riders jacket so if you own one of those sirius on how massages compare between that free note jacket versus the Filson

Take a look at Rogue Territory. Supply Jacket Tan Ridgeline waxed lined version; it is more expensive but slimmer than the Filson; another option cheaper and lighter, is Flint and Tinder waxed and lined has a woman’s sizes
Great review! Filson is just a shell of the former brand. This brand is straight up a fashion brand. IPA drinking hipsters try to look tough by wearing Carhartt and Filson, but they ain't foolin anybody. We know their hands are as soft as a baby's butt...
Thank you!! Since the Italians took over the brand, it became a fashion company. The Italians do that all the time. Check other iconic brands happen the same thing
Cold and cheaply made abroad. Filson uses a cheap, inferior cotton tee shirt like liner. The waxed jacket is clammy when you wear it. Given the exorbitant cost of this jacket, filson should have used a quality light wool liner and lined the pockets as well. You might want to look at their warmer choices - the CPO shirt and or the down insulated waxed shirt jacket. The upside is that while you are cold and clammy wearing this Cruiser, you look good. Smile if you can.
Sorry to hear that. I don't have your experience with these jackets, and I own two myself in different sizes, one for layer-up the other to wear in warmer weather, and so far the quality hasn't disappointed me 👍
@@Oomph6006 I cant answer that. IDK. I have long been a fan of FIlson products, yet they seem to have compromised their products and service. I expect better only to be disappointed. I live and work in MT and want a jacket that is reasonably warm and looks good. This product looks good. I know if folks live in FL or MS or TX this likely works for them. Cotton (lining) should never be a choice for a jacket. My fault, I bought it. As to what other waxed products? I don't know.
