    I beg to differ (0:30). Deerskin, goatskin, horsehide, etc. require no maintenance or waterproofing, at least not before decades of use. Oiled/waxed canvas is a deal breaker for me because it will fade on clothing, especially in hot weather.

    I was looking at different options for a waxed jacket and ended up choosing the Bradley Mountain 4 seasons waxed canvas jacket. They are all handmade here in the USA from a small company. Work gear turned fashion is why the prices for work gear have skyrocketed and the working folks can't afford them anymore. Then these companies once known for their work gear decide they can sell at a higher premium to fashion people and then lose touch with their base and quality seems to dwindle. Rinse and repeat.

      I just got one and I’m on the fence about it. The ripstop “lines” give it a more dressy look IMO, and I’m not sure that’s what I was looking for. Structurally however, it’s definitely heavier than the standard flannel lined model, and it has polyester lined sleeves. I’m hoping there will be some professional reviews of it soon as I’d also like to know what other people think of it. It’s definitely unique.

      Different ratios of wax/oil from Halley Stevensons (who make the cloth on the Thursday jacket) vs British Millerain (who make the cloth for Filson) and Fairfield Textiles (who make the fabric for the Huckberry). Fairfield Textiles/Martexin seem to have more wax and therefore patina super quickly, the UK brands seem to use more oils which makes it shinier and more even of a finish.

    The only thing I don’t like about the Thursday jacket is how wrinkly and cheap the canvas looks in comparison to the other two. Can you iron it without ruining the wax layer?

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  9 місяців тому +1

      The jacket was fairly new when I got it, the wrinkles come out with a bit of wear. I feel like you're not meant to iron waxed canvas? Actually you could try, what's the worst that could happen. A really waxy iron, I guess

    I recently ordered Thursday Boot Co.'s leather jacket (It's Anejo Racer Jacket)
    It's been only a week wearing the jacket (I work in an office in Chicago, IL and wear the jacket on my commute).
    The leather is already starting to peel and getting flaky a bit and it is concerning me. It's made with lambskin (at least they claim so).

    The Thursday one just doesn't look nice to me at all, sorry. Both Huckberry and FIlson's are classic patterns. That "wetter" looking canvas on the Thursday works in e.g., Barbour jackets with more complicated patterns, but looks weird when it gets all wrinkly on that kind of minimalist, featureless pattern. It also fits in a weird baggy way, the buttons look cheap...I hate to say it but it definitely is the least attractive of the three and very much looks like a boot company trying to make a jacket without the years of refinement/expertise it takes to make a good pattern.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  Рік тому

      Hey man I'm just glad this helped you decide! I kinda wish my Huckberry was freshly waxed so people could see how it looks new, but they def use a drier wax

    • @_bats_
      @_bats_ Рік тому

      @@Stridewise I like both and like the drier wax when the canvas has thicker yarns and a rougher surface, and the wetter wax look with a smoother canvas. It just doesn't work as well for a trucker for me, and something about Thursday's pattern just seems off.
