    I am 28 days into my concussion and I am so much better than I was 2 weeks ago. Still have a one sided headache and vision/dizzy issues, but I’m starting to really feel everything getting a bit better every day. Concussions are NO JOKE. protect your head!

      Hey there! We expect symptoms to resolve in 14 days (adults) or 30 days (

      @@drmarkheisig thank you, i have been evaluated.. he expects it to resolve in a few more weeks.. thing is, i know about 3 or 4 people that told me their concussion symptoms lasted about 1-2 months. what is this discrepancy between personal accounts and what google says? lol

      There's a big discrepancy, and I think a misunderstanding of just how many folks deal with concussion. It's estimated 50% of the world's population will sustain at least one TBI in their lifetime, and ~90% of those will be mTBI (concussion). A recent JAMA study just showed that it was MORE COMMON THAN NOT to see significant symptoms at 6mo post injury. The problem? Just hoping it resolves. There's so much research and evidence for active intervention to prevent PCS and speed recovery. The biggest, most underutilized needle mover? Prescribed sub-symptom aerobic exercise. If you were told some form of "rest and wait" your provider is ignoring consensus data.

      In clinic, we test and prescribe folks sub-symptom exercise to minimize symptom flares and provide a structured & graded return to physical activity. Can help speed things up to the 21 day mark of recovery.

    Is it possible to still have symptoms from a concussion after 2 months? The cause of injury was an auto collision in which 2 impacts occurred; hit from behind propelling car forward and into a pole. Unconscious 20-30 minutes. No memory of the incident or the time just before it happened. Main symptoms are insomnia, memory and mood. Insomnia is the most pronounced. Sleep happens by way of blacking out from lack of sleep. Don’t know if sleep deprivation can cause death but it’s a concern.

      Yes. When symptoms persist beyond 14 days, it's considered "persistent concussion symptoms (PCS)." You'll also hear that called post-concussion syndrome (PCS). Regardless, we're going to go through a thorough evaluation of autonomic/exercise tolerance, metabolic/hormonal health, visual/vestibular function, cervical spine function, and psychological health. This can help folks make recovery progress, even years after injury.

      @@drmarkheisig Thank you for responding. Seeing that my comment is dated 4 months ago I can say from personal experience that it's possible to have symptoms 6 months after injury. I'm still experiencing one symptom caused directly by the injury. My physical health checks out so whatever's wrong is all in my head!
      It's still difficult to explain what I'm experiencing. People can imagine losing a sense such as sight, hearing, taste, smell etc. But our sense of time seems to be something more abstract. I've come to describe it as similar to how we perceive physical distance, direction or velocity. But instead of spatial it's chronological. It's our sense of temporal orientation.
      There's an interesting philosophical aspect to the experience. I have an increased appreciation of works I studied years ago such as Siddhartha. Specifically chapter 9, The Ferryman. The river is everywhere at the same time. Time isn't real.
      Nihilism and absurdism are easier to appreciate. When nothing matters, we can.

    Hey i recently gotten in a couple brawls and was hit on the head hard a few times , didnt goto the hospital , but now im feeling really dizzy wen i lay my head back and move , i also start vomitting from being so dizzy , is this concussion related ?

    • @drmarkheisig
      @drmarkheisig  Рік тому

      Hard to say from this comment alone, but it could be concussion related. We've also got to consider WAD/cervicogenic dizziness, BPPV, etc... I'd get evaluated by a concussion literate provider.

    I have pcs avter 18 years. This year I'm seeing a concussion pt and a visual therapist, both for the first time. I completed vestibular therapy for the first time ever last year. But my vestibular therapist was mean and pushed me to over exercise my vestibular systems. I woke up a few times spinning. I had to shut her out of my mind and stop doing the VT exercises. I feel better now. Also I'm not dizzy now. I was always dizzy.

    My symptoms are returning after 10 months, and that is far, far longer than 8 weeks, which really worries me.

    • @drmarkheisig
      @drmarkheisig  2 роки тому

      Interesting. So your symptoms resolved (went away), and now are coming back 10 months after your injury? That doesn't sound fun, and it might be something unresolved from and/or different from your past concussion(s).

      You're in the ~2-3% that go beyond 8 weeks. As we get more research, I think we'll see this is more common than currently reported. I work with many folks at the 1, 2, 3,.. 5+ year mark of PCS. At any point in time, there's always an opportunity for progress! 🙏❤️🧠
