How to rig/cut/hook a jack fish/ray for a novice shark fisherman. Both a small bait on 30/50 test, castable. Then a larger bait, yak it out. Hook size/weight size/leaders.
I really really enjoy this video good job. 👊 I love it when you call me Big Popper. Time to go buy some more Rapalas the one you were bombing a mile last year at the Jetties
Hell of a vid fellas!! You know y’all are hardcore when you order your spoons by the boxes!! Ruben was killing it last time with that Tsunami Swim Bait! My favorite has always been the Topwaters!
Thank you! Yeah some times I could go a month with the same spoon and then like last time I lost 2 in one trip, 1 to being cutoff on a rock and the other by someone setting the hook on my line when I was hooked up to a Jack... sigh... Ruben was trying to get a bite on the popper but the Jacks wanted spoons that day.
Nice video brotha. Hopefully one day I'll catch you on the water. I been rebuilding my 2006 f250 so it has been taking me away from fishing. But hopefully I'll be ready for sharkathon 2022. Truck and all... 🙂🙂🙂
lol all good. Sorry to disappoint but this isn't Palo Alto Park, this is a park in Corpus Christi. We do appreciate you watching though. We seem to meet a lot of people from San Antonio while fishing the jetties in Corpus.
We showed it off pretty well in this video: ua-cam.com/video/uyxKrhjTU7A/v-deo.html maybe next time we're out I'll try and go in to a little more detail.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing the the 30hr outta Galveston are dope only 430. Just make sure you get your tackle right. I finally hooked into a YFT with only 20lbs of drag on my avet and got pumped.
As far as the poppers go, Ruben has caught Kingfish on pretty much all the different colors, just pick what looks good to you. The swimbaits try and get ones that will match the color that you will be fishing, darker colored ones for dirty water and lighter/blue colored ones for cleaner water.
For targeting Kings, Jacks, Jack Crevalle and Tarpon with these lures on our setups we use 65lb Braid attached via an FG knot to 10 feet of 100lb mono tied with a uni knot to a tactical angler clip. Some of our lures we have #7-#10 wire leader already attached to the lures (usually the expensive ones) with a swivel to quickly attach it to the tactical angler clip.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing thanks for the reply by the way 🤙 I moved to central TX recently haven’t made to the gulf yet but cut my teeth shore fishing for Mahi in Japan and GT/blue fin trevally in Hawaii. Your videos have restored my hope!
I just spooled my slammer 6500 with like 400 yards of 30lb braid and probably gonna use 40lb mono leader. You think that’ll be enough to land a tarpon or GT? Or should I up the leader ? Connected with an FG knot
That depends on the size of the Tarpon and how well it is hooked, etc. Although Tarpon do not have teeth like Kingfish, they can still chafe your leader with their gill plates. Most 30lb braids have a higher breaking strength that what it is rated for but you might also want to consider that as you use your line you might get some little frays that you don't notice right away, that's why I would go for either 50lb braid or 65lb braid like we use. I have my Slammer spooled with about 270 yards of 65lb braid, hoping that's enough for a good Tarpon but if I ever hook a 7 footer at the end of a 100 yard cast then it's gonna be RIP all my line. lol
If you plan on targeting Kingfish then you probably want to use single strand wire, we use #7-#10 or titanium in the same # range. You can use mobo but if a Kingfish misses your lure it doesn't matter if you have 130lb or 200lb it'll cut through it. Heck even with a 3' wire leader sometimes they still hit the main line or the mono shock leader.

Man, these are the videos i love please do an updated version with links to line and gear as well !!!
Good info. Show more. Line/reels/rods/cutting bait. How to preserve bait
Thanks
Thank you, we'll keep that in mind for another time.

Thank you, Johnny. Hopefully that F250 sees some sharks for Sharkathon 💪. The weather has been crazy this season. Lol
Them Port A jettys are really dangerous right now bro be safe, real slippery an slimey. Was there sat an sunday and Jacked em up! Got 2 jacks
Heck yeah that's awesome! Gonna try and make it out next weekend.
Palo Alto park! I’ve been watching y’all videos for awhile brotha and y’all are from here🔥🔥💪🏼
My bad! Just noticed I’m on my daughters account but she’s my fishing partner anyways 😆💪🏼

Them xwraps top waters and halcos add up fast ..but man they are good 💪🔥
You know it! 💪 $4 for a spoon isn't as bad compared to a $18 Rapala XRAP, or $20 Halco Roosta Popper. 😂
Great video
Im looking for a rod to cast just topwater for kings. any recommendation on a long distance casting setup?
Ideally you want a rod that is 8'+ and at least rated up to 3 ounces. Penn makes some decent rods, Daiwa as well.
Hey can you guys make a video on how your slide line rig is setup?
We showed it off pretty well in this video: ua-cam.com/video/uyxKrhjTU7A/v-deo.html maybe next time we're out I'll try and go in to a little more detail.
Those Halcos are yellowfin tuna candy at the oil rigs and drill ships.
I gotta go on a Tuna trip one of these days.

What breaking strain wire you using on your casting lures?
We typically use #7 to #10 wire. Just depends on what we can find at the time. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the solid content.
On the Tsunami paddle tales and surface blaster, what colors do you recommend?

What main line you use and lb? Especially for the kings. Curious what your whole line, leader connection is for specific fish targeting

@@bunyon0341 spot on, that and it also makes it easier to leader the fish if we don't bring our gaff.

what is the ideal specs on leader material to use on the spoon and what size titanium for lures?
