This update was probably one of the biggest RaceRoom updates ever in terms of importance. I've always loved RaceRoom, but the graphics definitely held it back for a long time. I love how it looks now. I do wonder what else will be possible in terms of features and visuals - especially since this sim is already 11 and a half years old, which isn't exactly young for a PC game.
they looking for guy that will implement newer dx and then sky is the limit since it will unlock the possibility to add light sources, means night then also better vr optimization etc seems like the dark ui for whole menu with many features including matchmaking is in the making too
It never will with this crazy pricing system and I say that even though I bought the premium pack years ago Crazy thing is it would be cheaper for me to make a new account and buy the premium again on sale.
One of the devs (I think it may have been the boss of KW Studios) mentioned that they are also working on a ranked races signup system that will be integrated with the game menu, as opposed to current system through Discord. He said that they planned to bundle it up with the graphics update, but they didn't manage to get it ready. That means though that it's very close to being completed, so next Raceroom upgrade may improve the state of the ranked racing.
Hopefully this will apply to all the ranked races, and not only the championship ones! This way it would be much better, like RF2 recently, iRacing and LFM work
I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. They've been talking about sign-ups, server splits, and a few other things for a couple of years now. Question is whether it's actually feasible with a game-engine this old. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it. I just think that they've pushed the engine to about what it can handle already.
@@lessthanexpertracing626 but UI has nothing to do with engine at all it think it will be done, maybe even for this xmas because they usually drop something big in december
@@lessthanexpertracing626 KW Studios had a job posting for backend developer position for quite some time. So my bet is they found someone for that backend developer position and the progress in that regard was indeed made.
@@instinktd Well, yes and no. In the case of R3E the UI is a part of the presentation engine. What we all have to remember is that R3E was never designed to be a stand-alone sim. It was originally designed as jump-in-and-go software for hardware booths at race-events, car-shows etc. Even after it was publicly released it took 2-3 years before multi-player was even possible. So one of the major problems KW faces is that a lot of the limitations are hardcoded into the sim. Can this be fixed? Sure. But crawling through 15 year old code designed to do one thing, and then figuring out how to reverse-engineer it to do something else, is a lot harder than adding stuff to a modular engine. I do agree that if anything, it'll drop in December. If there is one truth in this world, it is that the R3E December updates never disappoints. :) So I guess we'll see.
you and chris on raceroom always brings back warm memories of my early days in sim racing. good times. glad to see the update has been really well received by most and hopefully raceroom will now continue to progress and build up the online numbers
Coming from AC and ACC, I fell in love with the FFB, physics and sound system. The car engines also feel extreme organic and progressive as they should be. I play on Moza R9 with Motion Platform for the seat and 4x bass shakers. The experience and feedback is truly phenomenal!
@@TheMash84 sounds awesome mate! I’ve always loved the FFB and physics of RaceRoom - especially in the front wheel drive classes. Hoping there’s more updates to come in 2025 and the playerbase can grow for online racing 👍
Gr8 vid Ben! I value rain and night in ACC & iRacing etc too much to be without it. Now I'm used to night and rain, I can't go back to not having it. A sky-box does nothing for me. With AC-Evo in my Steam wish list, that's a day one purchase for me. I own almost all dlc in RRE, but I'm unsure I'll ever return to it. Luckily for RRE, not all sim folk need rain/night, so I hope RRE can recover and the lobbies get ultra busy again for everyone else.
Nice podium, Ben. :) As for R3E ranked racing, it's going to take more than this update to revive it. I'm still in awe of what Simbin/S3/KW has been able to browbeat an ancient engine into doing. But as others have noted, without proper ranked servers, with rating-splits, it's going to be very much uphill. The irony of course being the Catch-22 of online racing. You need a certain size player-base in order for splits to actually be used. But you can't entice new users without having splits. I really hope they can make it work, since I personally think that, graphics aside, R3E blows any other sim (well, maybe except rF2) out of the water. And it's still my favourite off-line sim.
I installed it about a month ago and was really quite surprised. Really good ffb and physics. Now yesterday after the update i bought some packs for me to do some ai racing. Too bad the online part isnt too active. Very underrated.
Looks good - I really enjoy Raceroom but most of my time gets spend on iRacing and the online racing. But I have been tempted to give the DTM content a try.
Have to say, this overhaul looks WAY better than I was expecting. RaceRoom’s Zandvoort was the most unattractive rendition of a sim racing track I think I’ve seen. I didn’t think they’d be able to polish it up so well, but it looks very good now. Not the best, for sure, but now looking very good for its age. And on another note… great to see these cars again. My old favourite in RR 😃
Aye when I saw the race was at Zandvoort I thought “now here’s a test!”. The older graphics model really did look ropey at this track - all washed out muddy greys. A definite step forward!
Started with Gran Turismo on Console, than RaceRoom on PC. Tested ACC and iRacing but for me RaceRoom fits best. Especially because we had the FFB update, tires update and now the graphics update.
Great point re other updates too - just hope there’s less time to wait between improvements over the next few months and they get some momentum behind online ranked!
I tried raceroom for the first time in VR this past week and I have a problem that maybe you can help me with. I have an RTX 3050ti and Intel core I7 11th generation which should be more than adequate. I have issues with the cpu. Even if it shows it’s been used at 30%, I only get about 17ms from it. Any idea why and how I could possibly fix this problem?
@marcosicolo4542 raceroom is dx9 witch is heavy on cpu as well as gpu in vr. Make sure you use the vr optimization option, then start with the heavy hitters like shadows, particles, and now even clouds. Lower those til you get better frame rates, then increase your sharpness to make it look better.
I really liked the new update, and DLC too. Now they need to focus on car damage model and track limits. You can crash all you want on everything and anyone and still go on like nothing happens while you lap gets cancelled if you run over the curbs.
I still run Race07 since my hopeless internet connection requires games that can run totally offline. I think the actual simulation experience is excellent though obviously the graphics of Race07 are very dated now (though I care more about how the cars feel to drive and the quality of the AI compared to graphics). But I was very surprised to read that Raceroom is still apparently DX9 since even Race07 is DX9. Obviously Raceroom takes it to its technical limits though when I compare the new look Raceroom to other current sims it still seems quite lacking in the visual department to me. I would expect more from a game in 2024.

The only issue with this game is the selling model (too expensive, even for a racing sim), because everything else, but visuals, is spot on. Personally, I would prefer 1000x this game (if way less expensive) than AMS2 or ACC (maybe even AC). For multiplayer it's good enough for me...
