We are off to Notting Hill, and our restaurant for today is Core by Clare Smyth.
In 2012 she became Chef Patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, making her the first and only female chef to run a three Michelin-starred restaurant in the UK.
There are two tasting menus to choose from The classic Tasting Menu for a £195
and the Core Seasons menu for £215. This makes it one of the most affordable 3 Michelin star restaurants I’ve tried.

The way you presented your daughter's dish without giving any type of review on them, was honest and a breath of fresh air.
wrr
I were at here in 2018 all the way from Finland. We were supposed to go to dinner by Heston Blumenthal for my 18 birthday. But there was fire so they offered to book table from us from another restaurant. Core by Clare Smyth wasn,t on their recommendations, but asking them if they could book it for us it was ok. And for a bonus they got usa the chefs table for that we could see to the kitchen. Also the chefs came them self to tell us about the dishes. And Clare Smyth came to wish me happy birthday and talk to us. Also They made me a special little birthday cake with candle on top. Its to this point best restauran experience I've ever had. Watching this video brings back memories and dishes we ate. Also its interesting to watch how they have advanced in these years. Keep making these videos they are awesome!!
Alexander, I really appreciate your channel. The presentation is artistic yet refined and your personality resonates professionalism and passion. Please keep making content.

Wow, I can't believe how low the prices of the menus are! Next time I'm in London I need to reserve a table! Thank you for the excellent content Alex.
lol, they aren't that cheap.
Firstly the price is now £205/£225, not £195/£215, I'm not sure why this is never checked before putting out the video.
Secondly there is a la carte at £155/£175 lunch/dinner.
This compares to Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, one of the most famous restaurants in the world, which charges.....
£155/£175 lunch/dinner a la carte
£205/£250 tasting
Or Hélène Darroze who charges only £125 for weekday lunch, and £195/£215 for 5/7 courses
Absolutely. Prices seem extremely reasonable for the type of experience and food. Those desserts were incredible looking
@@matthewbrealey2026 because its 10 £ more, its not anymore cheap for 7 courses in a 3 Star restaurant?
@@Daniel-pq6fd no, because it's more expensive than another 3* restaurant in London. So not 'so cheap'....
@@matthewbrealey2026 doesnt matter. Its still cheap compared to most of the 3* Restaurants around the world
It's so wholesome for you and your daughter to share this passion and have amazing lunch together, you're surely a good father.
These moments are precious for both of them. She will def. grow up w/ a great palate and food culture. Alexander taking a page out of Heston Blumenthal’s youth.
I wouldn't be surprised if she gets inspired to become a chef out of all these visits and starts her own restaurant!😄
Where is the evidence for that conclusion? Jesus Christ, somebody is present at lunch and you've assigned them passion, wholesomeness and a great relationship. I hope that's true too, but really, you just DREAMED IT UP. Scariest part, there are millions just like you, and some of you emotional, easily manipulated fantasizers actually vote. God help us.

I have to agree about the dresscode. If the Kitchen and the Staff is giving their all to you as a costumer, you can atlest dress appropriate. Respect goes both ways.
your video quality has drastically improved since the beginning! great job!
I like how you understand the importance of brevity in your videos while being thorough and your narration is clearly thought out and communicated in a second language, very impressive!
Agreed, great story telling
I'm not even that much into gastronomy, but the way you do these reviews is so brilliant that i just keep watching. Excellent channel, I can see it getting multiple millions of subscribers in the future.
I started following this channel a while back but now only managed to comment!. I used to work at a prestigious credit card company's concierge team and the restaurants you have dined and reviewed are what my clients usually would like to dine at! Anyways...
I am from Sydney, Australia and while the Michelin Guide has yet to hit our shores, I had the honour of dining at Clare's other sister restaurant here in Sydney, 'Oncore'. The dishes I have had are similar to what was shown here in your review (with the exception that she sources all the ingredients locally) but I wholeheartedly agree that the food is absolutely phenominal. As a sweet tooth, I especially love the coreteaser, certainly one of my top dessert dishes to date.
I'm glad to see that the experience at Core is just as high standards as Oncore (except the flip flops although funny enough that would pass fine in Australia lol). I'm heading to the UK in a few months time and I can't wait to try dining at Core!
Fantastic video and review. Cannot wait to see your next work!
Ooooh no idea she had a restaurant in Australia might be worth a visit to Sydney to eat there!
I've been looking forward to this video ever since I discovered your channel - and it did not disappoint! We ate dinner at Core in January 2022. The Core Classics menu we had was not very different to the one your daughter enjoyed. They did have an optional course: linguine with parmesan foam and shaved truffles; it might just be my favourite dish of all time - absolutely exquisite. I'm glad but not surprised you enjoyed Core. Please keep up the excellent content 😊
Claire is just a proof that true professionals will recognize your value regardless of your gender or race.
And I disagree with being voted best female chef. This is not like sports, where of course women can't compete with men, due to biological differences. She should be judged best chef. Whether you're a man or a woman should never come into play in this case. And I don't doubt Claire could get the best chef award. She's truly impressive!
Another fantastic review - it's great to see that your style is developing with each iteration. I particularly appreciate that you give the Chef and the restaurant context by delving into their origins, rather than diving straight into the dining experience.
ive never heard the word 'pre-dessert' before. i'm definitely adding this to my vocab justifying multiple sweet escapes after meals :P
Thank you Alexander for showing us all the different foods that most likely we won't be able to experience without you showing us! I was always a bit of a foodie but you turned me into a massive foodie!
Another amazing review of another amazing restaurant. I have to say that these were some of the most beautiful dishes that I have ever seen. The care and effort put into presentation here is outstanding.
I love way you articulate the taste of the dish, one thing is to be able to feel these things for yourself and entirely much more harder task is to articulate it so others can get sense of it. You have done both brilliantly. Thank you.
I must say thank you Alexander for making such good content and bringing your experiences here. These videos definitely awake my side of a "foodie". Please please continue making content!
The space looks so beautiful and cozy. It's crystal clear that she knows what's she doing. Btw, it's so wholesome that you go everywhere with either your wife or daughter or as a family.
Honestly. The best restaurant videos out here for a very very long time. Clear and fantastically narrated. Absolutely great to watch!! Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous videos. I myself worked in Michelin Star Restaurants around the world and appreciate what you are doing. Always a pleasure to watch your content.
You really express yourself well spoken and the words chosen and the way you introduce and guide the viewer through your experiences is in a perfect manner I believe nobody could do like this. Perfect shots of the food, you explain it in simple, yet amazing words and the quality of the videos gets better and better. Keep up the good work!
wrrr, no such thing as chosx or etc, outx etc any nmw s perfx
I remember seeing a comment on a previous video asking for this exact type of video about value/affordability, and here you are providing that for us. Thank you so much Alexander! This channel is going to go far, I'm glad UA-cam recommended it to me!
Easily the best food review channel today, thank you for a excellent channel! Looking forward to more episodes 👏👌👌👌
Dude, every video I see you upload you’ve gained at least 5k followers. Going to be one of the top food pages on YT before long!
Dear Alexander! Appreciate how you put your knowledge and passion in so professional and delightful way. As a chef, I’m really enjoying your content and recommend all my fellow professionals to follow you. Big respect and continue!👏🤝
Amazing. Love this restaurant. The look of it too. Love Notting Hill. This food looks better to me than most of the other three star Michelin restaurants I have seen on this channel! Yet it’s one of the least expensive! It just goes to show you it’s all about WHAT it is rather than just the price. Less CAN be more. Thank you so much for THIS video too. (great too how you are taking your daughter to these fine places. You’re a good father).
I went in December it’s BY FAR the best Bang for Buck 3 star Michelin ever. The atmosphere is also super laid back and not pushy at all. 100% will go back again.
gosh the content of this channel is so amazing, Alexander doesnt miss a single detail!
I passed by this restaurant on Monday during a trip to London! Even though it was closed due to the bank holiday, I was shocked to realise that it is actually Clare Smyth's restaurant. And now I have the perfect video to show me what is inside. Thanks so much!
I've not been to Core but would love to go. I'm London based too so not really got an excuse short of you usually need to book and we have a young kid to workaround.
In terms of dress code, I'm not sure I agree with you here. I'm somebody who does frequent restaurants with stars, and somebody who likes dressing down. Sure, for me it's trainers, chinos and a t-shirt, but ultimately if there is no dress code, I should feel free to wear what I like. Ultimately, that guy wearing flip-flops, his money is as good as anybody else, and he should be free to free comfortable there.
That aside, I continue to greatly enjoy your videos, always click as soon as I see them. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love your videos. Going to Michelin restaurants is one of my passions and I appreciate getting to live vicariously through you to get me through my next visit.
Gotta love the "great things can come from humble beginnings" after he described gentrification
The food looked absolutely incredible, maybe the most appealing ive seen so far and at a pretty reasonable price considering the stars. Highland Wagyu is amazing and the farm is about 15 miles from my house
I love these videos. Excellent production quality and a great blend of education, useful info, calm and honest assessment, wonder, and escapism.
LOVING the regular uploads! This is one of the best new channels on UA-cam
Love your channel. A true chef visiting true restaurants. Brilliant!
You are pumping out some very high quality videos, at a very quick pace. Keep up the good work.
Great stuff Alexander. It is also a joy each week for me to see your subscribers go up. Thanks for the brightness on my Saturday mornings.
Absolutely beautiful presentation of each and every dish.
Great job, I like more and more your describing and informative approach to show us top tier restaurants, keep up your work!
This has got to be one of the very best restaurants in the world surely, at such a low price the food looks worth x10 !!
Kudos that you express your experience holistically, you even include how you experience the other diners. I also try to do some effort in choosing my attire before I eat at a Michelin starred (or adjacent) restaurant.
Love that you are keeping it real. No hidden agenda just sharing the full experience. This restaurant is going on my bucket list. De Librije in Zwolle next..? ;)
I do understand that wearing something nice in a top class restaurant makes sense, yet, as a paying customer, I kind of feel that I could also wear shorts and flip-flops and still express my "gratitude" (for example with a ton of money I usually leave at places like this). I wouldnt recommend wearing something like that, but in the end the restaurant is responsible for the ambiente, so if they dont want flip-flops, they would say it. As a customer, I am not responsible for how the restaurant looks like.
The dishes are stunning, like, it hits hards like a art piece! Marked to go, I'm amazed!
Excellent content as always!
Some of the most appetizing dishes I've seen on your channel so far I think. Bravo
I agree!
This guy is an excellent reviewer. Even though I absolutely cannot stand fine dining and everything it represents, his review are extremely chill and entertaining to watch. All the best !
I can understand why you cannot stand what fine dining represents. However, perhaps you can look at it through a contemporary prism: the stratified classes are losing decorum. Look at the slob wearing flip flops and shorts to this nice place. Maybe we need more fine dining as a waypoint or a reminder that we should live in polite society. Also, it's entertainment that rewards those who work hard to achieve high endeavors. Think about all of the middle class people spending just as much on sports tickets, airfare and crummy cruises.
@@kevinh3979 Judging people based on what they are wearing is exactly why most people feel out of place in fine dining restaurants. Also its sad that you feel the need to group people by an archaic class system and assign them sterotypical hobbies.
@@hellsregect nonsense.
Your videos are so calming. Love watching them before I head to sleep
Wonderful video! Thanks a lot for the insight Alexander!
Food looks beautiful , plenty of attention to detail. What a lovely experience.
i'm so happy to see this channel rising so fast 👍❤
Alexander, your videos are stunning. Great music, nice footage and very enjoyable voice. Thank you very much!
It looks amazing, I would feel right at home with the decor setting😍
You are my motivation, i love the way you love food and mostly the way you explain. You’ll get 3 michelin too in some years!
I was waiting for this video for a while when I first saw it on your b-roll. I worked there for 2 years from 2019-2021. So happy to see it
Great video chef, what a beautiful space and an exceptional meal!
Alexander the "Flip Flop Hater"
? Why?
@@cookielover9250 did you not watch the video? There’s a dude wearing shorts and flip flops in a 3 star restaurant. If you did that in France you would be arrested. 😂
lol people need to get over themselves - stop giving a shit about what other people wear
@@supportsquid it’s a sign of respect for the establishment. You wouldn’t turn up to a friends wedding in flip flops and shorts because it would be disrespectful to the bride and groom. It’s the same deal here, it’s not a Mac Donald’s.
I wouldn’t wear shorts and jandals to a fancy restaurant but it wouldn’t bother me if someone else did. If it’s not against the rules, then who cares?
always excited for a new video 🎉
Excellent work again, Alex!
It’s Really Nice to find this Channel and Listening The Stories behind the Michelin starred Restaurant
Love your videos as always. Please do one on The Waterside Inn.
He seems to spend a lot of time in the UK so I imagine the Waterside Inn must be on the list sooner rather than later! I think he has there, L'Enclume, Helen Darroze and Alain Duicasse left for 3 stars in the UK.
another stunning video please keep them coming :)
another great review. Keep them coming.
Best new content creator this platform has seen in a while. Love the video
Great to see this restaurant again. I worked here as a Chef from 2018-2020
Awesome video, the food looks stunning!
Really enjoying the channel. I appreciate your lack of pretence but also your experience and insights. Great content.
Been following her restaurant since 2017, it's on my bucket list!!!
great great videos very enjoyable to watch
Top 3 and AFFORDABLE? Wow, would have never expected. Love the insight.
incredible content ! keep it up!
You have a gift for this, I'm grateful to get to share some of your experience, thank you!
Excellent professional content as always.
This channel is everything I want restaurant reviews to be. Although as a change of pace I would loooove to see reviews of hole in the walls, local places, non Michelin level.
Great review, definitely going to try here, looks amazing
Another amazing video. Love your channel :) I am a chef and I really appreciate what your doing :)
Love your videos!
This is why I watch.
My Sons and I will put this on our list.
Along with your restaurant.
Thank you.
I love this channel. Its so easy for this to become pretentious but its just so wholesome.
Hi Alexander, I recently came across your channel about 3 weeks ago and I've been thoroughly enjoying the story telling you've been doing with these restaurants. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and tastes. On a side note a restaurant here in Munich where I live got 3 stars immediately after opening for about 6 months I believe. I'd be curious to know what your thoughts on this restaurant.
Fantastic video! Genuinely astounding that someone would even consider wearing shorts and flip flops to a restaurant like this, let alone any other high end establishment.
It is surprising how much your videos have improved in 2 months considering the quality since the start
love these
From just the visuals it looked by far the best from all the episodes.
I love how little filler your videos have. So compelling, so watchable.
My friend worked there and had nothing but terrible things to say about how employees are treated. Staff turnover through the roof and observed multiple staff mental breakdowns
It’s funny, when you actually know a place and the people well what utter crap the general public will come up with…. Just made up bs. Sad
Amazing content, thanks!
I want here last year in winter, crazy to see the changes in menu from winter to summer
The most spectacular presentation I've ever seen...
This channel is inspiring, people are learning the experiences of dining
That looks amazing.
superb review.
This is a great channel! I was wondering if tipping is done differently in Michelin starred restaurants? Would service be included in France as it is in other restaurants? Would service and sommelier be tipped service separately? Any guidelines would be appreciated
Thank you Alexander.
Another great review Alexander! You must come down to Sydney to try Clare’s restaurant here - Oncore, it’s phenomenal. I’m so keen to try Core in London.
These reviews are the best publicity for your restaurant...we must come to see it...❤
Thank you for this!!! ☺️ Reckon you will be going to NYC soon??Keen to know your thoughts on 11 madison park next
There are cheaper 3 star restaurants in San Sebastián. However I do love Core and highly recommend it. Not sure if they still do it but the last time I went I had the extra cheese course with their take on the ‘fig roll’ and it was the best cheese course I’ve ever had.
What a great video and amazing restaurant!
