@@tmdiz4579 not speaking about the fact that the box has been made around the space marine, wich mean that GW has just put more termagant for having the same amount of point
No Node Beasts, no where for the Prime to hide, way too many useless ranged shooters, and just in general the models stats and rules are kinda weak. Even synapse is more of a punishment for not having it rather than a benefit for when you do have it with how high Tyranids Ld is... long gone are the days of fearless mindless monstrosities. 10th edition doesnt seem to be looking fun for anyone who doesnt play smurfs, to no ones surprise, but I guess we'll see what happens when the point costs come out, but if this box set is anything to go by...
this box is fun to play but really not made for making a powerful nids army, and changing the synapse rule for having 1 more dice instead of no moral phase makes it even more useless but again if the nids don't cost a lot of point, it would makes it more balanced (I also hate the OC 0 for the reaper swarm, just like what they said it's more of an annoying model than a useful one now)
@@pixel_mode Well the thing is... this box is built on the two armies Combat Patrols from what I understand. In the interview the lead designer said those boxes were their focus and they took extra care to balance them. Obviously also these boxes and so the two armies in the starter set are going to be around the same points cost. Thats shocking if youre a nid player, and someone is going to have to be a nid player, unless its the store manager, but GL with that after years of downsizing local stores from GW. When Necrons got their big update, it really frustrated a lot of players, and we saw Squats get outright banned from competitive play immediately, now further pushing the Marine bias again in 10th edition... IDK about anyone else but I'm ready to just say, "ok guys, I'm not playing if you use Marines", full stop.
Never EVER played or watched a game like this - only started looking into this after an ADHD diagnosis and can I just say - the last few dice roles had me jumping off my seat haha had no idea this game could be so intense. Thanks for such great content ❤

Getting back into the game after a decade away and you guys have made it so wonderful that I came back to this video multiple times. Finally remembered to comment. Thank you so much for making this old hobbyist feel good about his re-entry. I learned a lot from you on how to play on the new edition!
It would be cool to see a bunch of games too showcase the new rules for each army. It would take a while and would be a lot of work, but im curious to see how all of them play. At least i can start playing this weekend.
And now we only need a Warhammer like Tabeltop game that you can play on the PC as a real game for ppl like me that dont have that much Knowledge and money for all of this Miniatures :3
I agree. I learned magic the gathering in person, but picked up the advanced skills playing in their mobile app. The reason is that the game would prompt if I was able to do something and obviously wouldn’t let me do anything in breach of the rules.
This has been super helpful! I've watched a couple times just to get core concepts as a completely new player. If you guys could do a series of these for new players with focus on terrain, and maybe going up to 1000pt armies with all of the detail in how each roll is effected, it has been great to see and take notes on. I love the 40k in 40mins video, but for a newbie I sometimes get a little lost, and all the visuals and explanation that went into this has helped so much in grasping it.
Great video my son and I are getting into Warhammer and this was the most helpful video on how to play the game and showed how to read the data sheets and what everything means. Keep up the great work.
My buddy mentioned 40K while we were on guard duty last month, and only now did I think to look for a beginner's guide to follow along your bombastic 40k in 40 minutes series. I am so so happy that I got to learn this game with you guys, I feel a weird kinship with the channel. Now I get to go back and actually comprehend why "2 up saves", and "hitting on 6's" makes you guys hold your breath! Have you guys considered hosting a game of Poorhammer's Horde mode? It's a more co-op take on the Warhammer 40k tabletop, and I'm inclined to host more games like that since I'm a DnD 5e dungeon master and I like having groups of players.
29:38 "I've actually rolled a six, which is a critical hit. So i'm actually going to walk around the table here and start beating you in the face. And i'm really gonna go to town here." Almost as hard as I can physically punch" SMACK "And I gotta say i'm REALLY enjoying this part" My imagination while watching this. Great video by the way.
A friend of mine and i are considering getting into 40k and ive been watching videos to learn it and was really struggling until i found this one, very well done and i am definitely interested in getting involved!
Awesome video guys, seriously, as a new player you guys make it so easy to understand what's going on and what you should be thinking about. Not to mention all the camera angles, and visuals make it easy to see and appreciate the visuals of the models and admire them rather than just a boring top down camera angle for the whole game. Makes it much more cinematic. You guys have such enthusiasm and fun with the game, and Nick and Tac made it very friendly and enjoyable socially while still being tactical and competitive. Awesome video guys, seriously. You guys knocked a beginner friendly "how to play" battle report out of the park here. As a side note I'm disappointed to see that the out of the box matchup for leviathan seems heavily favored towards the marines, as someone who wants to start playing with the Tyranids. Ridiculous stat lines in comparison, along with tons of rerolls, and things like anti infantry, flamers to combat stealth, and "anti Tyranid" literally as a trait on some models just really makes it seem like this is geared to make it so the spacies have a huge likelihood to squash the bugs with offense. And on top of that. it really doesn't seem like the Tyranids have much they can do at all against units like the terminators and the Dreadnaught, outside of the singular screamer killer unit, which can be focused down pretty easily it seems. That on top of the "register your victory" thing GW has going on to tally up scores for people playing just the Leviathan box kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth as someone who has always wanted to play Tyranids and is just now looking to finally jump into the hobby.
Started with Kill Team last year and the talks of combat patrol has been getting some of my friends interested in moving up. This video really helps me grok how some of it works. Great Work!
Never played WH40K, but I played a lot of the PC games from this universe. All Dawn of Wars, Space Marines 1 & 2 and many more. Recently I watched a lot of videos about painting and I purchased my first models, paints, brushes ect. Games look very complex, especially for no native English speaker but this video was a gold mine of knowledge. Still entry bar for WH40K looks extremely high... not only you have to know your army but also all other armies their abilities ect.
I was gonna say.. I hope the points aren't equal in this box. Lol. I dont believe I've seen a Nid victory yet from a box play. Always comes close but snuffed out in the very last bit.
@@FnNeff0129 I’ve only seen 1 nid win out of 5 games But even in the GW preview it was quoted that the Nid side had to add 3 more units to balance the points
Man im really interested to get into this but good lord is it a lot to know. How do you even keep track of all these status effects and damages for 10-15 different units on the board? I feel like you really have to trust the other player to not cheat because keeping track of all this is an entire task in itself
@@danielthompson2661 my best advice as a new player myself. Just start somewhere man. Pick a unit you absolutely love and start there. Run small 500 point games or so until you get the basics and affects of that specific unit down pat then work your way to others. It sounds like an awful lot and can be if you overwhelm yourself.
Only just starting to want to get into the tabletop 40k game, and videos like this are helpful but my god I hope whoever I end up playing is kind enough to guide me while (most likely) beating me. Thankfully my friend is keen to help me get into it!

With such addition of great visual features, I want to suggest one extra thing. Subtitles! Not only it provides more accessibility, people from non-english speaking countries like myself can get that extra help. And of course, it is optional! People can enjoy with or without it. Thanks always for the great contents!
We have always wanted to do translations on our videos. We had looked into a professional service that would provide us consistent translation services but the cost ended up being too much unfortunately. One language basically ate up a good part of the gross revenue before compensating editors and staff. As a person who speaks three languages (speaks, not writes) it is a dream to be a channel big enough one day to afford the translation services.
@@PlayOnTabletop Whole traslation for all the videos will cost you alright. I fully understand that. What I meant was an English subtitle! That is a smaller, but a worthwhile step, I'd say! There are people who have hard time consuming the contents without a written script, ya know? Anyways, thanks for the reply!
Ah! It takes some time but the UA-cam system will auto create the subtitles in English. This is a long video so it is taking longer. Though, often it does get our words mixed up and it takes a lot of resources to go in and correct it all. Still something we will look into for this video.
@@PlayOnTabletop Ah, I haven't considered that! :O But if I had to say, between auto-created subtitle and properly scripted one, there can be tons of difference! Like you've mentioned, it may deliver a jumbled up words. Even it is an English subtitle, I know it will require an extra workforce to write one up! I guess what I want to say is, I'd like to see some stylish subtitles being added to the videos like this, which serves as a tutorial for newcomers like myself. For proper battle-reports, I'd guess the expected viewers will be well-versed in the area. So, maybe start with the ones that are beginner-friendly? Well, that was just my two cents. Thank you and stay awesome!

I recently finished painting my Space Marine combat patrol from leviathan and the Ork combat patrol. Super excited to play my first games with my mom, who said she really likes the orks and that she would learn the game with me
This is probably the best tutorial I've found for playing 40k. I' learned so much on how to play from this video. Thanks guys!
Knowing that the tyrannids are less powerful in the Leviathan box set this was an incredible battle !
The oaths of moment vs the useless shadow in the warp.
Finally made the push to start my journey watching you guys. Have started with the Iron Snakes marine chapter, lots to build and paint. Keep up the awesome content!
Good luck with your battles!
Just learning the game, this is probably the best vid I've seen to really explain the game and show how it's played. Both player made it exciting
Please upload more DEMO videos. This is really great to watch and learn. My favorite video on this channel.
They really should! You cam check out other channels.
Amazing video, I got into Warhammer 3 days ago, got myself the ultimate starter set, Ill definetly have to rewatch the video few times to get a grasp on the rules, but wow I cant wait to start playing
Welcome to the hobby!
STOP. Don't buy anything, get a 3d printer and print this stuff out.
Honestly after watching this channel for the last couple weeks it has invigorated my love for 40k and got me back into the hobby with buying my first mini's since 5th edition. Keep up the amazing work guys!
I just wanted to see what changed from 9th but this is super entertaining at the same time.
Thumbs up
Oh wow, this video is a life saver. There was no chance I was figuring all this out! I really like the depth this game seems to have but man its rough trying to get into it with no one to teach you.
I really enjoyed this explanation/tutorial! I got a very short attention span and but you guys kept it interesting (I watched in .75x once I got locked into the tutorial before the demo game) and I loved every minute of this video. I love this channel and very worth subscribing!
That would be neat!
And now we only need a Warhammer like Tabeltop game that you can play on the PC as a real game for ppl like me that dont have that much Knowledge and money for all of this Miniatures :3
Hopefully one day!
I agree. I learned magic the gathering in person, but picked up the advanced skills playing in their mobile app. The reason is that the game would prompt if I was able to do something and obviously wouldn’t let me do anything in breach of the rules.
It likely won't be Warhammer though. GW is a model company. All the rules and games and releases are to support and promote model sales.
Try Battlesector!
Tabletop simulator!
I literally saw you guys’ old vid this morning, I come back to finish watching it and you have a new one?!
The old video was for the previous 9th edition. This one is for the updated 10th edition of the game.
@@PlayOnTabletop great I can’t wait to actually play with my friend recently discovered warhammer
Hope you and your son have a great time with the hobby and game!
This video helped answer many questions I had after my first time playing not only 10th ed, but Warhammer 40k! Thank you for making information clear.
We actually did do that recently as an exclusive game for our membership. Was a lot of fun :)
@@PlayOnTabletop I joined your membership! I’ve been looking for it, can’t quite find it. Would you let me know the name of the episode?

He begins violently punching the man in the face. "So these punches" WHACK "Are extremely hard. Almost as hard as I can physically punch" SMACK "And I gotta say i'm REALLY enjoying this part"
My imagination while watching this. Great video by the way.
One of the best videos of it's kind with great/useful/inteligent edits throughout!
As a beginner this is a great video to learn, a lot of the other tutorials really don't go near as indepth.
A friend of mine and i are considering getting into 40k and ive been watching videos to learn it and was really struggling until i found this one, very well done and i am definitely interested in getting involved!
what a clutch victory at the end there for Tak! I was sure Nick was going to win due to his strong start.
I’m brand new and this video helped me heaps. I’m going to see if you guys have any other videos like this one, thanks for the good content.
15 minutes in and already loving it. Thank you for some a concise and helpful video.
Holy moly, I just watched the entire video and was hooked. Never played 40k in my life haha.
Bar far the best 40k how to play I have seen yet 👍🏻
Great video guys! As Always
But it is noted by GW that the “rough points” of the Leviathan box leaves the Nids short by about 3 Units
I was gonna say.. I hope the points aren't equal in this box. Lol. I dont believe I've seen a Nid victory yet from a box play. Always comes close but snuffed out in the very last bit.
@@FnNeff0129 I’ve only seen 1 nid win out of 5 games
But even in the GW preview it was quoted that the Nid side had to add 3 more units to balance the points
Man im really interested to get into this but good lord is it a lot to know. How do you even keep track of all these status effects and damages for 10-15 different units on the board? I feel like you really have to trust the other player to not cheat because keeping track of all this is an entire task in itself
@danielthompson2661 it's not as bad as you think, there are apps that can help or a good old trusty notebook has never let me down 😁
@@danielthompson2661 my best advice as a new player myself. Just start somewhere man. Pick a unit you absolutely love and start there. Run small 500 point games or so until you get the basics and affects of that specific unit down pat then work your way to others. It sounds like an awful lot and can be if you overwhelm yourself.
I also recommend printing your army sheets out on actual paper until you can afford the index cards for your army. It makes it so much easier to track
Only just starting to want to get into the tabletop 40k game, and videos like this are helpful but my god I hope whoever I end up playing is kind enough to guide me while (most likely) beating me. Thankfully my friend is keen to help me get into it!
Awesome video - now subscribed as this is my first foray into 40K and you have helped me to interpret the written rules - thanks
Great video, it made me go out and by the Ultimate Starter Set!
Completely new to 40k and the channel, really like the look of the Tyranids! This was a great battle and the guys brought so much energy to it. Brilliant watch and gives a complete beginner a good idea of how it all works, thank you
Good luck with buying the tyranids, it cost a lot
@@breadstick3909 but at the end of it I'll have an awesome looking (well hopefully because I'm new to painting too 😂😂) army that I've done myself.
@SithLordLerg I would recommend mid winter minis guide to painting. He explains it very well and is the reason why I'm into warhammer in the first place
@@breadstick3909 Cheers I'll check that out :)
Awesome battle report Nick & Tac, production quality top notch as always! super pumped to see all the new 10th ed videos you have lined up.
I remember seeing the Warhammer 40k figures in GameStop when I was a kid and I thought they were the coolest things I’ve ever seen! My mom wouldn’t buy them for me and it was probably for the best because I wouldn’t have appreciated it at a young age. I’m 30 and 40k has been in the back of my mind for a LONG TIME. Started space marine 2 and fell in love. Been watching lore videos and found this channel! I LOVE watching the table top!
Yo, that ending round was phenomenal. I HAVE to get into this hobby now. I was very strongly considering it already, but this convinced me 100%.
This video has helped me a lot and I always come back to to understand how the game works even though I don’t play😂 the step by step walk through is very well covered and I hope that many who come to this hobby watch this and understand how to play and enjoy the game 😁
Woot! Been waiting for this video to share it!
JT has such a fantastic voice. I subscribed to your channel a long time, well six months ago and have been watching since. My fave 40k content
Just picked up my very first combat patrol over the weekend. Decided on Aeldari. You guys definitely had an influence on me starting the hobby. Fully built, just need paint and ready to play.
oh wow, this video is fantastic. love the enthusiasm on everyone involved. thanks so much!
But if I had to say, between auto-created subtitle and properly scripted one, there can be tons of difference!
Excellent how-to play video. Well explained, recorded, and edited. The illustrative animations made concepts easy to visualize and understand. Quality work.
Yeah!
A friend just gifted me the Tyranid half of Leviathan, this was massively helpful in learning mechanics.
Also massively helpful in showing me I need to adjust the army a little.......
Would absolutely love to see you guys do a new kill team video like this going over everything not just whats in the compendium rule books
I REALLY like that effect you put when the termies teleport in 🤣🤣
the players, especially the tyranid one bring such great vibes. Really enjoyed watching this video. thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this How to play video. The opening basic concepts segment was very helpful to me.
This video is absolutely awesome! I wish I found it before I played my first game Monday, but the lgs guy helped us out a ton to play our first game. My blood angels got massacred by my buddy's world eaters.
Finally I’m starting to understand all the phases and steps to playing, now I must paint!
This was extremely helpful to me as i was on the fence about starting 40K. I can now say this is way too much for a new Dad so while i will probably not become a player I did enjoy watching the game.
I love how excited they get for all the high rolls, even their opponents.
Great video.
Would love to see something covering army compositions in 10th edition. For example, how can you build an army, what are the requirements, how many of each unit can you have, etc..
Loved the “everything’s coming up milhouse!” 46:37
I have the leviathan set, a lovely gift from the Mrs, but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. This was both super enjoyable and super informative. Thank you both!
A great demonstration and play-by-play! As a simple viewer and not even a model to my name I'm starting to understand the edition even more.
Looking forward to more!
This video is honestly so helpful; I legitimately haven't played 40k since like 7th edition and am rusty as all hell 😭
Glad it helped!
I know this video is a year old, but I gotta say I learned a lot! Thank you so much guys for this content!
It's the second warhammer match i've every seen. I really like this video. Starts calm but after a while you see they are fully into it ^^
Glad you've enjoyed it! Are you looking at getting into Tabletop Warhammer? Have any factions stood out to you yet?
I love Nick’s energy! Great game and explanation, I loved every bit of it!
He's what they call a Timmy. :D
I always get excited when I spy a new" Play On" upload.
YES I have been waiting for this. Can’t wait to get into 10th edition. Thank you PlayOn for all your amazing content.
