  • This week I teach you how to train your dog to do the stake behaviour, aka brace. This behaviour serves to help you stand or prevent you from falling. I explain step-by-step how to reinforce the successive approximations without using lures.
The goal is to teach the dog to support your weight when you need help standing. You'll achieve this by placing your hand on the withers and distributing the weight through the dog's front legs. Positioning is VERY important to not injure the dog.
    1 - Place hand on withers, R+/10Xs
2 - Put a little weight on the withers, R+/10Xs
3 - Put more weight on the withers, making sure the front feet are aligned, R+/10Xs
4 - Add the word Brace, aka cue or command, R+/10Xs
5 - Add the visual (kneeling) with the verbal cue, R+/10Xs
    6 - Test the behaviour
Let me know in the comments if you tried what's your result.
    Cheers.
