It;s nice to see a training video with a dog that doesn't quite "get it" yet. I like watching a dog figure things out and we, as trainers, get to see how to help them get there.
What I love about this video is - your demeanor - heavy use of positive reinforcement - your humility and confidence to demonstrate with a dog that is still learning and doesn’t yet have the commands down yet - the way you evolve/progress each command and add pauses: increasing the challenge for the dog.
Groomer? I tried to get one of those and got a text how no thanks. Bcos I thought ide be responsible and warn them first. He loves to bark doesn't like dogs much but he's a young dog he needs those experiences he'll learn. But the groomer was just like nah. Youd be best with a one to one they text. I wish I Just showed up with him now.
This channel is a godsend! I have a GSD Collie cross (I know right) she's 6 and I'm beginning to see the shortcomings of my lax training. The more I listen to Robert the better I pick up on my dog having a lot of automatic, expected sequences for which I am responsible in the first place... She has developed a bad habit of mixing commands, again now I begging to understand that this is down to me sequencing things and just accept a half baked outcome which she's likely on all accounts done by memory rather than to my command. We have our work cut out for us true, thanks to thins channel however I feel I am better equipped to do things the correct way. Thank you! Love from the UK
Despite local live training and other youtube videos, I was lost on the training of my challenging Schipperke pup until I started watching and following your advice. Still a long way to go but I feel informed and really appreciate your demeanour and approach. Thank you.
I really enjoy watching your video's. I would love to see your entire series of video's placed in sequence so it would be easier to learn them from the time you get your puppy transitioning to as they get older. Thanks for taking the time to make and post.
Brilliant video, most trying video are with trainers with a dog who already knows the trick. This works on my dog and I'm sure I'll get it with in a week or so.
Really really great techniques. One can understand learning theories and get results but knowing specific tried and tested techniques saves a lot of headaches.
Fantastic explanation on how to achieve this!! Thank you. Ive unwittingly been doing some of these techniques when trying to get my puppy to down from standing and she sits 😂😂 such as the gentle foot tap to say no stand back up i asked for a down not a sit. Your videos are always very informative. Im a member of a few dog groups on facebook and of there are ever any questions that come up i always point them your way. Thank you for your time and effort.
This helps so much, I need to teach my dog to stand for dog shows and just couldn't seem to get her to understand that it was a command. I'll definitely be trying all of these techniques on her.
The foot technique is a good idea. I used treats to lure and then touched stomach with my hand. But that foot technique might be good for proofing stand. I want to to sit, stand & down from long distance in a field.
Super. Been working my Mal on stand but after watching your video I can see where I'm going wrong, I've been doing from either down or sit but either standing in front of him or getting him to follow my hand back away from.. Great thumbs up!
Wonderful training session and especially for us because we have a German Shepherd pup that will look like Maja when he is grown. Halgrim is only 9 weeks old, so too early for this kind of training, but when the time comes we won't have forgotten these excellent methods. Thanks very much! Vielen herzlichen Dank!
I am really enjoying all of your videos. You are fantastic at what you do. The relationships you build are amazing. Well done. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Lovely to see Mya. Sorry She has been poorly Robert. I really hope it isn't anything serious. Great full video showing how to help the dog understand. Thank you : )
Really enjoy your videos and the way you teach your dogs. We are getting our first GSD at the end of the year so I am learning as much as I can beforehand. Over the next few weeks will be subscribing. 🙏
I am really enjoying the videos I watched your first prior to going to the park today, just engaged her eyes to mine instead of looking at my hands for the treats she is now engaging more, I have worked on only this today, she seems happier and is coming back to me when off the lead at the park, she was a little but the distractions of other dogs seem to take over but today we had less incidents, I am looking forward to watching the rest
Thank you so much for this video. My RB Coonhound has been having trouble learning this command. After adding the leg movement to help him understand it clicked with him in 5 minutes. Great advice! Thx
I started teaching my stubborn dog to do this and im so glad i found this! Thank you so much. I am also teaching my dog german too, so this helps a lot!
I live in NY, I take the train. My dog knows sit and lie down. When we are on the train, I would prefer stand. He always wants to lie down or sit. I will begin this today.
Fantastic video Robert! This is exactly the issue that I’m having with my year old Old English Sheepdog. Thanks to you, I now know exactly what to do with the “stand” command. My only question is why do you throw the reward treats to the ground instead of rewarding the treats with your hand? I always reward sit, down, here, etc. with him taking the treats from my hand. Am I doing the rewarding incorrectly? Thanks for helping me train my dog. Of all the dog trainers on You Tube, and I’ve watched them all......you truly are the best!
I like to vary where the dog will get rewards. If it’s always from the same place he will form that pattern. Plus teaching the dog to come forward creates a creeping motion. You want the dog to stay put especially in the stand where the dog is very likely to move.
Thank you for the video! My adopted dog's "default setting" is sitting in front of me, so teaching the stand is super important, whether it's to clean her paws after a walk or getting the harness on. I couldn't figure out how I can teach the stand without her lunging forward for the treat, I'll try the leg block! Thank you!
I'm having terrible time teaching an 8mo old Lab/pit/beagle female to walk outside. She shuts down completely by the door. I have tried treats, prong collar, other dog in same house. I don't want to traumatize her. They have her since 8wks old, she's never had traumatic experience and she is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Smart, super sweet, knows almost every command and is so calm and respectful. I am so UPSET, ive run out of ideas. PLEASE help. Much appreciation your way
Great video thank you! My puppy is so bad at understanding stay even when I click it and unload treats as he's in the stand position so I'm gonna try this method.
Please thanks so much for these videos and I ve bn trying to get through with my dog pax and this is helping a lot , trying so much to teach myself the game of dog training and any advice on this I do highly appreciate
Few months ago I taught my dog stand command and took a long time. But he finally got it and it was perfect every time. I lost him 3 weeks ago. He was sick for a 2 days and 3rd day while taking him to vet he died
You are absolutely amazing I’ve been employing your techniques on my husky border collie rescue and he’s getting amazing thank you so much for all you do
Agree. Steh is about the hardest dog command to teach. I use this exact technique on all of my dogs. My Mal stands when I start to move my leg. In the beginning, I had to "push" his rear end up with my foot. Eventually, there wont be any need to move my leg. Robert, if my dog is standing and I say "Good Steh" he sits. I stopped saying the "Steh" command and just stuck with "good". Seems to work the best for me.
Very helpfull video. The foot really is a great way. I still have a question about doing this command on a distance. Mine alsways comes in front of me when I ask him the stay comand from a distance
Thank you. Very helpful and informative. I will have a search through to see if you have a video on how to correct with the leash? Hopefully I haven’t picked this up wrong from the few videos I’ve watched. I have a little french bulldog who isn’t staying in any position long enough and won’t do anything without the motivation of treats in front of her.
before I had a dog I thought this trick was useless but now I realize how smart dogs are. Most people teach their dog to sit then lay, my dog now thinks whenever she laying down that she gets food.
wish that this had been answered as I think it's a very pertinent question. I can't answer but I know from games based training they say 5 mins max for the whole session (that covers several training exercises.) I tend to go for 5 reps then switch to something else or play a game for 30 secs then return to the exercise.
Thanks for your videos Robert. My GSD is very responsive and well trained to my commands, (Sit, down, stand-up, heal, off, gentle, leave it, etc...). I would love to see a video that talks about how to teach the same commands in a different language, without confusing the dog. Do I need to start from scratch and go through the same process? I probably should have considered that when I started training him at 8 weeks. That being said, I am where I am. I know my GSD is well equipped to understand multiple commands for the same action,,,I just want to implement the best strategy for training him in multiple commands. Thanks again.
It;s nice to see a training video with a dog that doesn't quite "get it" yet. I like watching a dog figure things out and we, as trainers, get to see how to help them get there.
Joy comes with success. God I love these dogs!
true true
What I love about this video is

- the way you evolve/progress each command and add pauses: increasing the challenge for the dog.
Thank you for your patient and calm demeanor as you teach Maya...even through the corrections! You are a great example for me!
"Stand" and "paw" are probably the most valuable commands when at the vet. Your groomers will be especially grateful.
Groomer? I tried to get one of those and got a text how no thanks. Bcos I thought ide be responsible and warn them first. He loves to bark doesn't like dogs much but he's a young dog he needs those experiences he'll learn.
But the groomer was just like nah. Youd be best with a one to one they text.
I wish I Just showed up with him now.
okay this guy is the best dog trainer for novices' like me to understand. Awesome job man
Literally the best dog trainer on UA-cam
Not only do you explain this to the deepest of understanding, but you also share so much insightful understanding of how to interact with your canine.
Always amazes me how quick dogs learn. The rest of my family ruins it because they’re not consistent and precise.
You explain your techniques far better then any other dog trainer I’ve seen on UA-cam, definitely earned a new subscriber!
Thank you I'm training my puppy at 7 weeks these commands he's learnt to sit bit still needs plenty of work
This channel is a godsend!

I am in awe at the way you train and explain....I guess I will let my kids get the German Shepherd puppy after all.....Thank you!
Thank you! Your videos are really helping me with my newest addition to the family, a 10 yr old puppy mill rescue named Gracie, she's precious!

perfect vid! taught him in 5 minutes after this... mind you i was trying for quite some time unsuccessfully before.
This helps so much, I need to teach my dog to stand for dog shows and just couldn't seem to get her to understand that it was a command. I'll definitely be trying all of these techniques on her.
Thanks, this helped me with stand for BOTH my puppies!
Shows the clarity a good correction can give your dog!
don't kick the dog ha ha ha.
Thanks Robert please keep the videos coming they help all of us so much 🐶

Been binge watching your videos. You’ve helped me out a couple of times with my first German shepherd.
Smart dog... but needs a lot of discipline.
I have a German

Love this explanation on stand. Your videos are always fire Robert and I know I'm gonna learn something when I click play
Thanks Robert for sharing your knowledge with us ,this is a great video and i bet a lot of people appreciate you .
thank you!!!
I love this video it helped me so much your are such a good trainer
Best dog trainer out there.....and a nice man.

im really happy i subscribed. The videos are always clear with how? and why? being explained. This is the best material out there that i could find.
Can't wait to get away from your video to teach my border collie to stand! Thank you. Plus I'm learning German from you!! Ooo!
this video helped me a lot with my dog, thanks!!
I started teaching my stubborn dog to do this and im so glad i found this! Thank you so much. I am also teaching my dog german too, so this helps a lot!
Excellent advise. Has helped me watching and acknowledge your advice. Thanks a lot.
You are the best, man !!!
Superb !!! Thanks for this amazing video Robert!!! Keep on making excellent videos like this.. I’m a fan of yours...
People who force their dogs to stand is terrible but I really like how this is letting the dog figure it out step by step
Awesome techniques to get the dog to hold her position! Thanks. I had major issues with my GS creeping forward more and more.
I live in NY, I take the train. My dog knows sit and lie down. When we are on the train, I would prefer stand. He always wants to lie down or sit. I will begin this today.
Amazing explanation with all the teory, without being massive. Really god job!
Thanks Robert! Great guidance on dog training as always.

Robert you are one of the best trainers i witnessed in my life ...keep uploading such videos as they are really very helpful for all of us ...
Thank you
Very nice tips sir. Thank u very much sir
Excellent, Robert! I'm going to try this with Mushka. Nowadays is very difficult to her to do «down», but I'm on it
Working on this one with mine now. Tnk you for guidance

Your video is Golden!
Wow, first... Great videos!! From South Africa
Welcome !!!
You are the best in education Robert. Thank you. I look at all your vidéos. So clear, so logical. Must be compulsory.😍
Thank you. Great training!

Mike - I just read your comment after I posted my response to EarthWise Pet Panama City
. Seems as though you are validating exactly what I just said
super video, thanks

My dog malinois bites me into leg when I am trying to put his back up with my feet or into a hand when I try to put him up by hand. What should I do?

Love it!!
Another great demo Robert
Cheers Mate!
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you from Aruba! :)
Nice so help me with my Belgian malinois. Is any chance you will show how to teach your dog for IPO 3 ?
that good video. thanks for share with us

How long should I focus on one training exercise? When do I change to the next command
