In this video, JOM Of the Gravel Cyclist crew is joined by Mike of No. 22 Bicycles, for a rundown of the company's extensive range of bespoke titanium bikes, including many new features for 2023.

"Our frames are made entirely in-house in our Johnstown, New York, production facility. Our small team of craftsmen have over 50 years of titanium framebuilding experience between them, which comes through in every frame we build."
A Better Bike is Standard:
"Unlike many builders, we don't charge extra for things that should be included from the start. From our decal-free finishes, to butted, size-specific tubesets, to thru axles and oversized head tubes, every No. 22 is made to be the best bike possible for its intended purpose. Better performance should never be an extra-cost option."
Size-Specific, Fully Butted Tubing:
"The average weight of a rider on a 50cm frame is vastly different from the average weight of a 60cm frame. Despite this, many manufacturers use the same stiffness target across all frame sizes of a given model. At No. 22 we tailor tube diameters, wall thickness and butting for every individual frame size."
"The result: smaller sizes are lighter and have a smoother ride quality, while larger sizes are stiff enough for larger riders."
Bespoke Dropouts:

I heard about your company from Terry B.
Some very innovative US bike technology. They are the only company I know of that offers a quick disconnect brake hose (3:04) system for their collapsible frame. I'd like to see that hose and frame taken apart and put together. I think it would make a super travel bike. Even if you don't make the 62 inch limit, you still have a smaller box to travel with, and the ability to travel easier on trains and in cars. If anyone has a no.22 bike and has been riding it for a while, I'd like to hear of their experience, especially the collapsible frame.
Agreed: the Brake Breaks and the Santana / # 22 Bicycle couplers are a Godsend for the touring cyclist.
No 22 makes some SAWEET bikes for sure! The finishes were incredible and the 3D printed stems, albeit complicated, are works of art as well.
I was there Saturday (really sorry I missed you, Jom) and No 22s display felt like they should've had music playing and serving snacks of some sort...Lol.
Jom...Hopefully you had a chance to meet Kristof (sp?) of 44 Bikes and do a review of one of his bikes. When I go custom, it'll be with him.

I think the frame hirth joint is an engineering accomplishment. I wonder why they don't have a better demo of that feature. They should have a bike partially disassembled to show the innovstive frame and hose couplings. If you could easily remove the fork, that would be another great travel feature for the larger frames.
Booth space may have a lot to do with it.

My brother and I drove from South Florida to see Chris in Baltimore just to have him fit us and build the red item 4 and blue&cream lugged frame bike you see in this vid. We are relatively fast recreational riders and have been riding steel bikes for over 50 years, in several different states. If yer sittin on the thing for several hours, trust me, there is nothing like the feel and ride of a bike made to fit, as well as the more compliant ride of a steel based frame, n recently fast higher volume tires . Granted there are less expensive options but when your passion is riding, and you spend time in the saddle, its money well spent to work with a builder like Chris who really understands how to tailor different geometries for your riding style.
Man what great looking bikes. Love the cerakote finishes, and Ti seems like a great fit for gravel.

The Bastion Cycles are some of the prettiest bikes in existence. It is a shame they're not the best choice for touring / transport. And, while their road bikes are unsurpassed in looks, I also find some production gravel carbon bikes (most notably, the Salsa WarBird, the Cervélo Aspero and a few others) more visually appealing than their gravel bike.
Nice looking titanium bikes. Anyone know how much is Drifter X? Their website does not have any price.

@@GravelCyclist Thanks! Their price is of course high, but at a competitive level compared to a carbon bicycle from a name brand. I don't think they need to hide it like that.

Hey Matt, you need to drop No. 22 HQ a line, most of their bikes are bespoke, etc. Of interest, I should have a No. 22 Drifter arriving for review in the not too distant future.

Imo they are almost too beautiful presented like this. I prefer to see them in practical use like on the website. Adds some utilitarian appeal to off-set the bling-bling.

1:40 whats the point of dropper seatpost?
Descending rough gravel while being able to move around the bike. Also allows you to change seat height when your just riding around and don't wand a racy position.

The things I absolutely LOVE about some of the No. 22 Bicycles models (in order of importance), are:
- The Santa Z -type couplers (these, combined with internal cable routing and the Brake Brakes - are absolutely indispensable for touring bikes!)
- The Brake Breaks (idem, the way to go for touring bikes!)
- Compatibility with proper mudguards (front and rear) is important, as is compatibility with front and rear racks, etc. (N.B.: whether No. Bicycles 22 has mounts for rear and front racks - is yet to be determined).
- Titanium
- Fully integrated cable routing (present in some models)
- Top tube -level seat stays: I'm not too keen on dropped seat stays, generally speaking
- The use of flat-top bar ends in some models (I hate cylindrical tube drop bars)
- I can live without, but I do like the finish of some of these bikes. Trek's Purple Flip or Specialized's Satin Oil paint jobs are even slightly more appealing to me.
The things I cannot bear with in the No. 22 Bicycles model range:
- The ugly TIG welds: I much prefer 3D-printed lugs for every single join in the frame.
- The typical cylindrical tubes: I want a titanium bike that mimics the look of carbon to a T. There's no arguing that flat-top top tubes, flatter chain- and seat stays and somewhat thicker, shapelier down tubes and weld-less joints look infinitely better than primitive cylindrical tubes crudely welded together. Even metal bike fanatics have to admit that carbon looks infinitely better (despite its sole shortcoming, i.e., relatively poor resistance to crashes and negligence in transport). The few that fail to acknowledge this fact - are either blind or tasteless.
- I cannot stand horizontal top tubes: give me a compact frame with ca. 13-18º top tube slope.
- I much prefer a stack of ca. 600mm. for a frame with a ca. 54-55cm top tube length: a stack of
