You're in our top three as well, Nathan. 😉 Thank you so much for all your kind words and for listening this year! We are truly honoured to be included in the list with such a group of legends. ❤
Aww, thanks! It was very well-earned! Your album still continues to grow on me and could easily have been #1! It was all very close around the top of the list!
Love this style of year end lists! Glad to see you went with your heart rather than just going with what others would want to see. That's what this is all about!
I like most of the albums on your list. Out of the 15 separate rounds I agreed with five of your winners. Different strokes for different folks. I appreciate the tournament format. It gave me a feeling of participation.
Life in the Wires by Frost* was amazing! probably my favorite of the year, but i still have a bunch to catch up on. Big Big Train was also cool. Also i love Pineapple Thief's new album.
I'm way behind on ranking. Santa brought me BBT, Meer, and Frost* and I'm sure they'll be in my favourites alongside Ritual, Geordie Greep, Azure, The Lemon Twigs. I like Dirt Poor Robins but I need to listen to them more. I've only been able to track down one album on cd.
Certainly some bangers on that Meer album. I need to keep digging with Dirt Poor Robins and some of your other picks! Thanks for the great reccos this year. Merry Christmas to you and Jana. The kindest dude on UA-cam!
Nathan, thanks so much for taking the time to put out this video! It’s neat to see that we have such similar taste in music. I absolutely loved the new Beardfish, Big Big Train, and Frost* albums this year. Will be checking out Kyros, Meer, & Dirt Poor Robins now as well.
Great list, and fun way to present your top picks. A few upsets there (neither Neal or BBT making the top 5?), but for those of us that have followed you all year, your top picks are not surprising. Most all these were also on my top 25 for the year, but my very top was quite a bit different (just personal preference) as my top 10 looked like this: 10. Bend Sinister - Mostly Great Things 9. Rosalie Cunningham - To Shoot Another Day 8. Jon Anderson - True 7. IZZ- Collapse the Wave 6. Guster - Ooh La La 5. Albion - Lakesongs of Elbid 4. Circe Link and Christian Nesmith - Arcana 3. Cloud Cult - Alchemy Creek 2. Big Big Train - The Likes Of Us 1. Barock Project - Time Voyager
Great top ten! I have BBT at my number 5, and my top five are all very close, so it could easily rank higher on a different day! With Neal not making top five…even as a super fan and loving his new album with The Resonance, I have to admit that it doesn’t quite reach the amazing heights of some of my other favorites by him…but it still got pretty close to top 5!
Hi. I watched your presentation all the way through and it was great for me to learn of these bands I’d never heard of. Thank you. You have a comfortable style and I can tell how much you truly enjoy the music. I just listened to Frost* Wires and it was so varied and interesting. I loved it too. Whelp, guess I’m a fan now. Cheers! Jace
I don't know the IZZ, Dirt Poor Robins, or Sleepmakeswaves albums but I think the other 13 albums are all in my top-20 of the year. Fantastic stuff all around.
A deserved win for Meer! 👌 'Wheels Within Wheels' were my 3. best (non-metal) album of the year, just behind Geordie Greep 'The New Sound' and Extra Life 'The Sacred Vowel'; excellent album! Good call, Nathan! 👍
Great job, once again, Nathan. I really look forward to seeing your listing's for the year. So, cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war... We await the other UA-cam prog listing's.
Nice! Dirt poor robins great. Surprised that it beat out Frost. Frost was my album of the year! Ritual at my two spot. Appreciate you. Great year on your channel!
It was all very close, in another universe I could have chosen Frost...I almost did in my original iteration when I was planning this show out and setting up the different match-ups...
Hey Nathan thanks for all the work you put in throughout the year and spotlighting some amazing albums. Its been a great year for music. Enjoy your time over the holidays and look forward to what next year has in store.
Always love to hear your opinion, but extra excited when it overlaps with mine. For me, Meer's new album (like the previous album) is an extra-ordinary, emotional, and meaningful album to me. Can't remember if Moon Safari's new one came out this year or last year, but it also (like all their albums) holds a special place to me. Looking forward to checking out your recommendations, especially the one's I had no idea of - Dirt Poor Robin being one of those I've not heard of. In the new year, looking forward to new Magic Pie and wish that Phideaux put something out. Regardless, thanks for the channel and recommendations. Best wishes!
Moon Safari technically came out 2023 (right at the end in December) and was my album of the year last year...seems we share very similar taste in music!
A great year in Prog! So difficult to select the winner among so many great entries. Your winner is a fantastic choice. I own many of these albums because of your work in 2024. Well done! Thank you!
Of your top 16, Kyros was the winner for me, with Frost* nipping at their heels. I still haven't settled on my top album for the year - but in addition to those two I'd say the new albums from Actionfredag and Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp are the strongest contenders at the moment.
This is such a good collection. I had only given Wheels Within Wheels one listen and thought "this is good, it goes on my list". I just gave it another listen, and that pushed well up in the upper half. I see why you like it so much. Deserved winner. Still, Kyros takes the top for me. I have listened an unhealthy amount to Mannequin this year. The End in Mind still rocks my world. 🤯
Thank-you for all your hard work and great recommendations throughout the year. Have a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to what you have in store for your channel for next year
Hi Nathan. Dave from London here. Really enjoyed your tournament, as I did last year. Can't say I agree with your choice, only because I haven't heard all the albums, but I bought the Meer album, which I agree is fantastic. And the Dirt Poor Robins album sounds great too, but I won't be buying it as it's not being released on CD (cassette instead - why???). Kyros is a probable purchase; BBT too. Other new releases I have bought this year include Vermillion by Epica singer Simone Simons and Djesse Vol. 4 by multi-instrumentalist & singer Jacob Collier. Both tremendous.
Red Vector - Летопись Страны Советов, concept album about life and death of Soviet Union, is also a good 2024 prog album. Check it! Especially epics "Страна Советов" and "22.06".
Meer? It’s far worst then last one. I liked last one way more female vocals now band has to many members to me it was average. Believe won my aoty with kite parade close second.
You're in our top three as well, Nathan. 😉
Thank you so much for all your kind words and for listening this year! We are truly honoured to be included in the list with such a group of legends. ❤

Thanks Nathan. I always look fwd to your tournament. I may run through it myself and see what I get and there were quite a few I had not checked out.
Certainly some bangers on that Meer album. I need to keep digging with Dirt Poor Robins and some of your other picks! Thanks for the great reccos this year. Merry Christmas to you and Jana. The kindest dude on UA-cam!
Thanks, you are too kind! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!
The big one!!!!!!❤❤❤

Awesome, great to hear! Thank you for watching!

IZZ : Collapse the Wave
Great job, once again, Nathan. I really look forward to seeing your listing's for the year.
So, cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war... We await the other UA-cam prog listing's.
Oh, for me, it would be *Frost at the number 1 slot. I just love a prog concept album.
Can't argue, it's an incredible album!
Nice! Dirt poor robins great. Surprised that it beat out Frost. Frost was my album of the year! Ritual at my two spot. Appreciate you. Great year on your channel!

Hey Nathan thanks for all the work you put in throughout the year and spotlighting some amazing albums. Its been a great year for music. Enjoy your time over the holidays and look forward to what next year has in store.
Great list! I have to dig 3-4 albums. Respect for including interesting albums in your list, not just big names (as they usually do nowadays).
Always love to hear your opinion, but extra excited when it overlaps with mine. For me, Meer's new album (like the previous album) is an extra-ordinary, emotional, and meaningful album to me. I still haven't settled on my top album for the year - but in addition to those two I'd say the new albums from Actionfredag and Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp are the strongest contenders at the moment.
New Le Orme (what a surprise!) and Vesilinja (prog folk from Finland) albums are also worth checking.
This is such a good collection. I had only given Wheels Within Wheels one listen and thought "this is good, it goes on my list". I just gave it another listen, and that pushed well up in the upper half. I see why you like it so much. Deserved winner.

Kyros was close to taking my top spot as well! Definitely respect that as your top choice!!
Great presentation. ✌🏼

LET'S GO LET'S GO LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!
Thanks for giving CDs some love! For some of us, vinyl is way, way too expensive.
Red Vector - Летопись Страны Советов, concept album about life and death of Soviet Union, is also a good 2024 prog album. Check it! Especially epics "Страна Советов" and "22.06".
Hey Nathan! Thanks for a great vid. Happy Holidays to you and Jana! 👍🎅🏻🧑🎄🤶🎁🎄☃️⭐️🙏☮️😎
this was a fun way to do it
Lemon Twigs over Caligula's Horse? I challenge you to a duel, sir! 🤣😂
Did you consider "Arcana" by Circe Link and Christian Nesmith?
Yes, I certainly did! I included it in my list of honorable mentions in a separate video: ua-cam.com/video/UHQuZYh83N4/v-deo.htmlsi=hHLKG7Wb7SG091k4
@@NathanOnShuffle Glad to see you also mentioned Kite Parade.
Honorable Mention…
Barock Project
Triton Project
Six by Six Beyond Shadowland
Big Big Train Flare on the Lens
The final should have been The Story of Mr. Bogd vs No Hill for a Climber imo.
Would be a great final match-up, no doubt!
No Hill for a Climber is my favorite for the year.
Great pick!
Meer? It’s far worst then last one. I liked last one way more female vocals now band has to many members to me it was average.
Believe won my aoty with kite parade close second.
Meer’s album is a true delight that touched me deeply this year. Truly tremendous! We’ll have to agree to disagree! Great top two though!
@ it not necessarily bad I prefer last one more had female vocals. New one has more members then what id like then to have imho
