Hi Lyn! If it's not too late, I have a couple of questions for your September Q&A video. 1. I received a couple of severely dehydrated ferocactus species. To rehydrate them back to their normal state, do I just water them as normal? 2. What things do you look for when purchasing a new plant? 3. Can lack of winter dormancy prevent cacti and succulents from blooming? Thank you for another spectacular video! Have a great rest of your week! - Bennie - 🌵😎❤️✌️
Hi Bennie :-D Thats fantastic with your Questions for the Sept Q & A and I am so looking forward to answering them in the Sept Q & A, I will be filming the vid in the next week or two, and they are awesome topics for upcoming future vids too, and so happy you loved the repotting video, thanks so much Bennie for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Wednesday today XXXX
Yes I sometimes have to bottom water the ones that are overhanging in their pots haha, I prefer to water from above but sometimes its more practical to bottom water especially with the plants that are difficult to water from above due to them not having enough space around them to water, I usually fill up a dish of water and let the cactus drink up from the bottom and re fill the dish a couple of times to make sure the cactus has taken up enough water for the root ball to be damp, after 3 hours any water still left in the dish I empty out, I can definitely cover this in a future video too, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday XXXX

I have been wanting to get my hands on an Astro. I like the Bishop's cap type. They do NOT seem to be readily available here. Will have to go back to mail order sources in California I guess. I have gotten two orders of plants in the past month but mostly succulents so far. I also have been searching for Aeriocarpus but recently watched a vid and the guy seemed to suggest that they are not easy to get. My collection was just restarted this spring so is new and relatively small yet. The only plant I had left is a 25 year old Agave Victoria Regine, which I nearly killed with neglect. It sat in a dark basement for well over a year when I went through a bad stretch with plants. I took it outdoors to a covered porch about a month ago. The lower two thirds is all black dead leaves but the top looked alive yet and color has improved since going outdoors and giving a bit of water. Removed a few old leaves from base and no sign of pest and lots of roots from stem down to soil. Looks like the tip is starting to open too so hope I can salvage it ! It is old enough that it could flower any time so will die after that I assume. No pups at all 😞 I have been unable to find pumice for potting mix so have been resigned to using Perlite. How do you know which plants should have lime added to soil mix ? There are so many types it is hard to keep everything straight and remember. Is Hort. charcoal a good thing to add to the mix ? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help !
Hi William :-D Astrophytums can be really hard to find in the garden stores, and mail order is sometimes the only way to get hold of these beauties, all of the Mexican species like to have a tiny bit of limestone added to the soil but its not a necessity, but the Mexican types like the Ariocarpus, Lophophoras, Aztekums, Strombocactus and Astrophytums like a little bit of limestone added, but they will still grow well as long as the soil medium is very well draining, Pumice is getting so hard to find now too and can be so expensive when you find it, I also use perlite and it works well in exactly the same way, I do prefer to sue pumice when I can because I find perlite can flout up to the top of the soil after a while, but its still an excellent addition for the soil, and makes the soil nice and airy and well draining, I haven't use charcoal myself but I do know of many growers who use it and love to add it to their soil mediums, thats fantastic you have been able to save your Agave victoria reginea and I bet it will go on to make a full recovery in time, thanks so much William for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle XXXX
