I have a terrible memory for most of the concerts I went to - rearely remember set sits and the like, but this was one of the most memorable things I have every seen live. Listening back now, I agree the ending is not good, but to see the two of them, legs dangling over the edge of the stage, singing together such a profound song…
Now, If nobody is keen on a Genesis reunion tour, THIS is THE NEXT BEST thing, maybe switch.back and "forth or fifth decade" theme for fun !!!!! Phil's back, and he could play drumboxes all night !!
I was at this gig, along with about 50,000 others. From where I was standing the acoustics were aweful and I could hardly hear anything that Peter was singing. Although I could hear Phil, strangely. This recording is infinitely better!
If I recall Peter's wife, Jill, wrote this song. Fantastic tune that I never knew Peter and Phil did live together. However If I was Peter, me and the Phil guy would be having a talk about the way Phil closed the song. Sounded pretty derogatory to me.
That was actually Peter who finished the song . When he first performed the song on tour , he sang the end part and then sat at the edge of the stage - hair sticking up , both hands tucked beneath his thighs and swinging his legs back forth in a childlike fashion .
There is a version out there with video in which he ends the song in this precise manner. That's Peter, not Phil. There's a point he's making. Our childish, irrational fears take the greatest toll on our children. Those fears are childish and irrational as well.

Wow. When they sing together they sound like the same voice. Amazing.
Musically speaking, Phil's always great everytime he's bearded...
Right? No doubt about it. Grow the beard back, Phil.

She’s credited. Peter wrote it but he and Jill started writing it as a Christmas song together.
