If you’ve ever seen The Freshman, it’s a really good movie, but Brando’s performance is fantastic, say what you will about him being unprofessional, what he did worked
But Norton has a point too as Brando was very well known for never learning his lines but I have to say he was wonderful in the Freshman so earpiece or no earpiece he will always be a legend and a master nay King of acting.
I literally ran into Matthew Broderick on the steps of Grand Central while they were filming & was knocked down & I was briefly unconscious. He was so kind and concerned he helped me to a bench. The Director wanted to continue but he told him not until I was seen by a doctor. Matthew kept asking me how I was and if I needed anything. He never left my side until the ambulance came.
@@steveoh9285 As a matter of fact I lived in Ireland during the 1980's Unfortunately each year Americans who are not used to driving on the other side of the road get into car accidents. There was no drugs or alcohol involved. Did you know he's a convicted murderer??? Back in the 80's (right after he got massively famous for Ferris Bueller's Day Off) He killed someone (in Ireland I think) in a head on car crash while driving on the wrong side of the road because he was drunk. But he got off because he was rich & famous.
MB--best older Brando impression ever, because he doesn't overdo it. And Zac is so cute defending Brando and looking like he just wants to hug Matthew. A lovely 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
I agree he’s probably the best actor ever. His performance in streetcar is astounding even by today’s standards. In an era where actors had to talk and act sort of over the top, he brought a very real and natural energy to his role which also happened to fit the character of Stanley Kowalski from the play very well.
I met him a couple times during the Freshman being made as I knew Bruno K. He was very quiet and shy actually. Bruno Kirby was a class act. I wish I had a camera back then because I would have had some good pics. That must have been in the early 90's....actually it was 1990.
Brando is the greatest actor because of his unmatched acting range. From 1950-60 he played a paraplegic in THE MEN, Stanley Kowalski in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, a Mexican revolutionary in VIVA ZAPATA, Mark Anthony, a Hell's Angel in THE WILD ONE. Terry Malloy in ON THE WATERFRONT, Napoleon in DESIREE, sang and danced in GUYS AND DOLLS, a Japanese man!! in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, a contrite nazi in YOUNG LIONS then directed ONE EYED JACKS.
Marlon Brando is the most famous person with range. There's a less-famous actor called Sivaji Ganesan, whom the Western audience largely haven't heard of. There's a story that Marlon met Sivaji and expressed his admiration for the latter, apparently saying, "You could do everything I do, but I couldn't do everything you can."
I was also thinking how much Charlize also is deeply absorbed into Mathews impersonation of Brando and how she admires Mathew and is totally focused while all the others were laughing.

Yeah it's great... She forced her 6 year old boy to become a girl. Put dresses on him and make him play with dolls. Then Theron says _"it was his own decision. He wanted to be a girl"_ That is Hollywood for you... Sick to the bones...
Most young people today won't recall him, but the late Walter Brennan was a fantastic character actor who (reportedly) never learned a line of script. Rather than remember it, Brennan would read his lines from a cue card held off camera. Other actors who worked with him talked about this fact. Whether he felt, as Brando apparently did, that the lines wouldn't be fresh enough if spoken, or for some other reason, you'd never know Brennen was reading as he spoke in any of his onscreen appearances.
Brando was into spontaneity. From the beginning of his career. He was the greatest actor of the century. He could do anything. What a waste for Matthew not to become a movie star. He's so funny. All that hoofing it on Broadway-- for what? Why?

Brando could never be bothered to learn his lines, you can see in many of his films the glance to the side, not being artistic but looking at his lines being held up
Honestly, I don't think I'd be able to act well with the distraction of cue cards. I'd lose focus on my character. It worked out for him though, as far as his legacy is concerned.
It should be noted that Brando only did this, much later in his career. By then, the 'acting' didn't seem to be the priority. Although, he was damned funny in The Freshman.
