- Diving into the new, updated 2024 Edition of The essential Guide to Hong Kong Cinema.
The original book was an absolute bible for me when i was first getting into HK cinema in the mid to late 90's, this revised edition is smaller in size, but way more jam packed with reviews, poster art and more.. Absolutely vital if you're a fan of HK cinema!!

Looks like a nice book. Good rundown. Ordered a copy yesterday. Cheers.
Ooo looks good, want one
Another great publication from Rick and Ken ,you can always rely on Eastern Heroes 😍
So true!
Thanks, Johnny top man as always
Not much of a reader myself, but on one hand I really want this book and yet on the other hand... I don't wanna find out about way to many movies I would love out on bluray that won't get any anytime soon haha.
It's a good way of helping you avoid buying any you may regret afterwards ;)
have the original book that i bought back when it was released and at the time the only way of finding out about these amazing movies along with the magazine and impact magazine, the new edition looks great but why only up to 2000, i have e few of there books from back then all awesome, cheers
Thanks Stephen, I'll ask Rick and Ken for you why only up to 2000 when they come on ( i have a good idea why, but would rather they explain in their own words)
@@TheFanaticalDragon cheers looking forward to it
It seems to me like it's mostly to have a clean cut-off date.
The Hong Kong film industry collapsed a few years earlier, but struggles on.
Cheers!!!
Thank you my friend.
Cheers mister, I am definitely picking this up. Also are there any other books you would recommend?
loads mate! do you mean more review style books specifically about HK movies or generally related ones?
@@TheFanaticalDragon whatever you recommend, probably more specifically around Kung fu /wuxia as opposed to HK action.
How would you say this compares to John Charles' The Hong Kong Filmography, 1977-1997? I've got that and really enjoy flicking through it and looking up Charles' reviews of films I've watched.
Not seen that book in a long time but from what I can remember Charles book had a wider scope in terms of genre. Remember it having lots of romance movies, comedies and more experimental/arthouse films. Rick & Ken’s book is much more lazer focused on Kung fu/ heroic bloodshed/ modern action and fantasy/horror.
