Totally. That’s a killer solo. And that bass is everything. Yeah, it’s just one of those songs that rocks so hard. Classic.
It's sad how many are confined to little volume control units and earphones/buds etc. All of the music from back then was so much better on well-amplified/component stereo equipment with a set of clear speakers...to feel the music pass through one's body.
I freaking loved this whole album in high school! Marty still killing it today too🤘🤘
The whole album, Countdown to Extinction, is killer. And Marty is probably my favorite metal guitarist.
When this flavour of Metal came out, 10" & 12" speakers for cars and trucks were a fad, along with 100+ watt amps. In our homes, we were listening to big stereo systems, with the fad being huge stand-alone speakers with 15" bass speakers and a +100s watt amp. Music was to be felt as much as it was to be heard and felt on the flesh as much if not more than it was felt in the heart or soul. There were bands in Rock that needed to be listened to with headphones to get all the details of their mix, but Metal wasn't such a genre to have such perspective it was trying to capture, instead, it was interested in moving the listener. I mention all this to give a reason why bassist roles were so epic in Metal. Just as the double kick drum and lower toms built volume, bassists filled the air with resonance and brought about a 'march' feel to these heavy tracks. Put 2 clean 15" drivers with all the juice they can handle being driven by this track, and it will physically move you and you will enjoy it well.

Marty and his buddy Jason Becker were both guitar monsters before they hit their twenties. They played together as Cacophony on Shrapnel Records and played some of the most blazing fast guitar ever heard on the planet. If Jason Becker didn't get sick he would probably be the next Eddie by far, that good.

Crunchy! I’ve always used that word for why I like Megadeth most of all metal bands. People looked at me like I was a fool. So happy to hear someone else use it.

Millie, you really need to listen to 'My Last Words', an earlier Megadeth song from 1986. It also have a killer bass riff which is unusually and different from other songs.
He is a gifted composer. Plucks entire songs out the void. All parts. Never studied music theory or anything. Metallica does it as well, but it's a group effort.
Martin has something a lot of guitar players lack and is feeling he play with feeling, another example is Slash he is not the grates but when he make a solo it sound with feeling and trasmit to you an emotion no other one cant.
Two things. Marty was an absolutely legendary guitarist and one of the best technical guitarists out there (I say was because he really has turned his back on this kinda music and says he hates solos). Secondly, Dave is as responsible for a lot of the guitar as Marty and whoever else is playing guitar in the band. Unlike many vocalists who play guitar, he is not a rhythm player, he is a full on lead guitarist in his own right.

Grunge. Again father of grunge and psychedelic Marc Bolan aka T Rex needs to be reacted to. First psychedelic song recorded "Wizard "in 1965 with jimmy Page as a studio musician. Then remastered in 2016 which shows where psychedelic and grunge came from. Many plagiarized his music like Elton John's song Tiny Dancer which i believe is T Rex's (marc bolan)Ballad of Mars song. Unlike Metallica (who would mix the bass at the bottom... or fade it completely), Megadeth made sure that the bass was up front on their records... David Ellefson (bass) is truly one of the best bass players in heavy metal. It's a pity that a recent sex scandal got him fired from Megadeth a few years ago...
In 1992, Megadeth were definitely on top of the world w/ this album 'Countdown to Extinction'... Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, (late drummer) Nick Menza and guitarist Marty Friedman... Mustaine was shocked how fluid of a guitar player Marty Friedman was and changed Megadeth's sound into a more musical standard, rather than just a thrash/ speed metal band that could rage...
Megadeth is the most technical of the 'Big 4' of thrash metal... Metallica was the biggest... Slayer was the fastest and most brutal... and Anthrax was the most musically adventurous... And only Megadeth and Anthrax would feature their bassists prominently on their records (David Ellefson of Megadeth... and Frank Bello of Anthrax)
From the beginning Megadeth was a very socio-politically active band. Dave was writing about politics and social issues while the other metal bands were still writing about dragons, drinking and banging groupies.
