    And to think that they were able to cut those stuffs on the cylinder precisely is crazy

    So incredibly simple yet so effective. When you take care of the mechanism all the time that is. Even a slight wear can throw it waay off. Despite this mechanism being so simple and despite shooting hundreds of rounds reliably I still have a reflex to check the mechanism like every week, lol. Mine is 46 years old and I believe that with proper maintenance it will still shoot for another 100 years. PS your animation is very very nice but you seem to have animated a one in a thousand smooth bore version :D

      Well, thanks. I've made Colt just for fun and engineering skills improvement.
      To be honest - I need your advice. I want to work with firearms, especially with black powder Cap'n'Ball revolvers, but this is extremely difficult in Russia - we have no manufacturers of such stuff and weapon regulations are extremely tight.
      My current project is to revive 1851 Adams patent revolver, made 3d CAD model and full scale replica of it.
      Can you advise someone who can handle with manufacturing and, probably, will be interested in this as business idea? I've wrote to Uberty, Pietta and Great Gun, but without any feedback.

      You are welcome) This is rather old stuff, but it was a delight to work on the project. This is rather unusual, that such specific subject could be interesting to other people.

    I love this. Could you do the same animation for the 1858 Remington 44. new army revolver ?

      Well... I'm not so experienced in animation, without Rob Brassington's help this video was impossible. I have started Remington 1858 project long time ago, but didn't finished it yet - now I'm more interested in making full set of technical drawings for all Colt 1851 Navy parts

    Good video👍
    I couldn't figure out how the hammer and the finger that holds the cylinder in time pass each other without jamming up. I see the green lug on the hammer but can't figure out how it can set the finger and then pass by when firing. Can and would you please explain it to a simpleton?
    I've thought of buying one of these for a long while. Once again good video

    • @user-sz8mh5ou8v
      @user-sz8mh5ou8v  6 років тому

      Hi Phil! Thank you for watching! Green lug have champfer on the top of it. Then finger is starting to contact with lug's champfer it is sliding over the top of lug without jamming.

      Thanks for the reply. Its very clear now. I wish I had the computer knowledge to make such detailed moving parts.

      It is alot easier than you are thinking, really. If you want to study 3D designing I recommend you to start from Solidworks - it's simple, it's intuitive and have all necessary instruments to make solid models (but it isn't well suited for surface modelling, unfortunately).

      Hello. Glad you share the hobby I had in the past. If you want, I could check do I still have an original 3D model of the gun, maybe it will facilitate your efforts to make a carboard replica.

    Hi how are you? I like your video, and I'm crazy for colt navy. Do you have a blueprint or template of the mechanism because I want to make a replica of the colt.

    • @user-sz8mh5ou8v
      @user-sz8mh5ou8v  7 років тому

      Hi, Albin. I've built this model all by myself - I had no blueprints or such stuff - only my imagination and pictures from Colt patents. Theoretically, this mechanism can work - but I don't know exactly)
