How To Gain +50 HP On Your Nissan 370Z or Infiniti G37 With 4 Mods
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2024
- After extensively testing hundreds of Zs and Gs with a wide variety of intake and exhaust combinations, I decided to do a test with a customer's 2016 Nismo 370Z. This car was bone stock, and I wanted to see how much power could be gained with the simplest, yet most effective bolt ons I have gathered based on my previous experience.
- Z1 headers & test pipes
- AdminTuning intakes
- GReddy RS dual catback exhaust
Bone stock, the car made 282whp.
Installing headers, test pipes and exhaust (no tune) brought it up to 304whp. (+22whp gain).
Swapping intakes & tuning the car afterwards increased the power up to 326whp. ( +22whp gain).
A total of 44whp gain (50+ crank horsepower) and 19wtq gain with 4 bolt ons, stock throttle bodies, no porting manifolds, no E85. This is a substantial gain while maintaining the complete factory driveability and functionality of the car on 93 octane fuel.
The most non-clickbait video ive watched
Gotta love videos like this.
I see a lot of bs videos on you tube with misleading tittles... honest solid video
Thank you for appreciating this, please share and check out my other videos.
Agreed.
dflet03 -- what are you yappin' about?! Title says +50hp but guy says +44hp. 😂 that's called the typical misleading title you idiot.
+44whp is actually more than 50 crank horsepower, this is shown in the video.
Admin: NICE WORK! You earned my respect again! I think going forward you should have more clear before vs. after videos like this. The camera guy needs a better mic, and the audio from one clip to the next should be level matched, other than that, it's lookin more and more professional with each new video!!!
So 50-55 crank horsepower gain. Not bad for breather mods and a tune. That puts this car right in the ballpark of 390-400hp at the crank from a streetable N/A 3.7 liter V6. That's damn impressive.
a 3.7l v6 vq37vhr is 328-330 stock crank hp and the IPL or Nismo is 348 crank. so approx. 378-388 crank for the regular vhr while the nismo/ipl will easily go over 400 crank
@@vq.krisss i don’t think the horsepower from the IPL is additive. That’s just a better exhaust from stock with a better stock tune, the motor is identical. Mod for mod a g37 sport and a g37 IPL will make exactly the same amount of power.
As far as I understand, the Nismo's only difference is tune and exaust, so I'd say they'll end up around the same all said and done @@vq.krisss
44 rwhp is a pretty healthy gain.
My 370Z also started out stock at 282 peak rwhp @ 7200 rpm on q Dynojet, with the low end running moderately lean and the top end running very rich. After putting a Fast Intentions TDX x-pipe exhaust and a Stillen Gen 3 long tube CAI with no tune we got 303 peak rwhp @ 7200 rpm but the F/A ratio was extremely lean at low and mid range with weak torque and the top end was slightly rich. After EcuTek tuning our 7th pull yielded a peak 321 rwhp and a 15 % increase in torque over the entire rev range. The car drives, and sounds, much better than stock.
Moncef is right; these simple breathing mods improve the volumetric efficiency of your engine and when combined with a good tune that is optimized for your engine produce good results at a reasonable price. If I didn't live in California I would have also gone with a good set of equal length long tube headers.
I have similar mods on my G37 but stock headers and yeah the ECUTEK tune took this car from a slug to a missle. Especially the trans (TCM) retuning that is done was unbelievably improved. I feel like the longevity of the vehicle will be improved with all of the corrections to the fuel and trans.
This is the exact mods im playing to get (Fast Intentions X pipe with Stillen Gen 3 CAI). I also live in California so I cant go full route on the exhaust system. Do u mind if i asked u where u got it tuned?
@@mattrancho I had it done at Specialty Z in Simi Valley, a short distance from where Fast Intentions is located. The owner, and tuner, Sebastian Chakoff is top notch and has many years of experience in tuning the VQ37VHR engine. I had 94 octane gas in my tank and had it optimized for the octane; I blend in 1 gallon of Sunoco SS100 race gas, which is street legal in California, with 2 gallons of Shell V Nitro 91 octane to get the 94 octane blend. Sebastian also gave me a 91 octane map that I can toggle to if I need in an emergency. The Z engine runs optimally on 94 octane gas but can safely run on 91, because the ECU retards the timing and richens the fuel ratio if it detects the early signs of detonation.
@@videomaniac108 thank you! Damn sucks i live in NorCal. Most of the good shops are in SoCal. Thanks again bro! Will check them out (still about a year away from buying & tuning my Z)
There's a good shop in San Jose called The Z-Car Garage, owned by Rob Fuller. He has a dynojet chassis dyno and can tune you on either Uprev or Ecutek. He and his people are great; I've dealt with them for a number of things.@@mattrancho
Holyshit! That Z sounds amazing even at idle, reminds me of what my 240Z sounded like
There is tremendous value in this video and its findings: less than 10 minutes invested watching the video and a ton of information gained.
…Versus the old method of spending 50+ hours in the forums, reading through misinformation and ignorance, with tons of uncontrolled variables.
Thank you for putting all of this together, in the same shop, on the same car, in a single video for all to enjoy. 🍻 ❤️
Thank you very much! We have a couple of other videos like this as well with more modern parts and tuning strategies. I am glad you enjoyed this one and if you have other questions let us know!
Them Flames Tho 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah gotta have them lol.
I need this sound in my life.
Someone must get a good discount to get all those parts for $2k. I almost spend that on my exhaust ha. Great video, one of the best so far.
Thank you for the feedback. :)
John Powers yeah my stillen was $1500 for my 350
jackalo626 yea my catback was that too, plus if you have test pipes and headers, forget about it
I have a g37 sedan and put 2.5 straight pipe with a x pipe and with the blue chrome tips and cost me under 300$ lol i will never spend so much money on a exhaust
Erik Alvarado it making you happy is all that matters
I was gonna do my intake manifold, instead of the headers. Now I got a lot to think about. Great video.
Neither manifold or headers are THAT worth it.. Very marginal gains. Unless 8hp is alot to you
@@R1CEBWL that's about 1/6th of what you can get staying N/A. For what it's worth, it's definitely not allot. Better to save up and go FI.
@@R1CEBWL so the best bang for buck for a stock 370z is test pipes, CBE, tune?
@@r.k862 And CAI 100%
Heavily considering getting a 16 370z when I come home soon. They look fun to drive and I like the design
realy good work, i hear ppl saying the Zs were so costly to make small power gains
That last 110MPH backfire~ FAOK!
I really hope that was an afterfire and not a backfire. Backfire is when unspent fuel goes back into the intake, but an afterfire is fuel combustion occurring in the exhaust. Afterfire = probably running a little rich, but flames and pops are cool. Backfire = not the best thing ever because explosions in the intake aren't ideal
Yea that exhaust was beautiful.
This Z transformed into a dragon 🐉
bruh 320whp.... my truck makes more than that stock.
godzilla a natural lol
@@SirBoostAl0t bruh, 326 whp is like 390 bhp, and your truck probably has a v8 with 450 bhp at like 5000 lbs, your truck would get its ass handed to it by this car.

Thank you so much. I've been looking for an independent take on horse power gains for my 2016. Much appreciated!
93 octane petrol and still runs like a beats.
Now you can imagine what this car will do with 95 or 100 octane :)
And I can buy 101 unleaded Trick fuel right from the pump at a 76 station, just down the road where I live. OH YEAH! Granted a full tank is about $130 in my '11 G37s, but very noticeable power bump!
m.yelp.com/biz/76-gas-station-auburn
It’s still an N/A car. Won’t pick up much. Maybe an extra 10-15 horsepower. But running that kind of fuel, you have to spend loads in fuel lines, bigger fuel pump etc
@@TheNuclearDestress What about with twin trurb? 😈
Йордан Маринов if you twin turbo it and run that kinda fuel yeah you’ll make way more power then normal e85 tune or pump 93
93 AKI (American octane) is about 98 RON.
Also, saying its 2k in mods is very misleading. Maybe 2k in parts if thats even possible, it seems more like $2500+ ($1000+ cbe, $300 test pipes, $500 intake, $500 tuner, $200-300 dyno tune), That’s on parts ALONE without labor cost.
I specified in the video that it is around 2k *in parts*.
KingCobra Bolt-ons are DIY. Save the labor costs mane
If you have wrenches, jacks, and jack stands, you can put on all of this yourself. I’m by no means a mechanic and I was able to put on a CBE on my 370 by myself with just those tools. Is it a pain? Yes, but the savings were worth it.
This is basic wrench turning. Do the work yourself and learn a thing or too.
I literally am in the middle of doing a head gasket job on my 2009 G37x. This stuff is easy bolt on stuff. Now if you were having to do what I'm doing at the moment then I would understand because I have done a lot of work on these cars before and know they are a pain in the ass to work on mechanic or not. Still not impossible though. You would have no trouble doing this yourself with even the slightest mechanical inclanation.
this is a awesome style of making the video. enjoyed it! keep it up!
To the point and no bullshit, very informative with proof
I want a 370z but been going back and forth between that and a 435i… once I got to 4 min I realized why I wanted a Z😫

So inspiring.
Awesome video and very informative! I have the same exact car and will definitely be reaching out to you in the near future!

Thanks for the work, another great video
Read through some comments, and I respectfully disagree with people saying it's not worth the money for the gains. IMO, these are solid n/a gains for a decent budget. Perfect for track duty imo, and still fun for the street. And some of these mods would compliment a FI setup nicely, like the exhaust or intake manifold.
Also, it looks like this z would make mid-340's on another dynojet dyno, this one appears to read a bit low. (based on what moncef posted)
The gains are shite, 50 HP and 20 torques for 4000+? Holy shit c'mon dude. It's just sad because that just isn't a good value, it's so much money mate.
@@roboticvenom1935 Unless its a turbo or supercharged engine , what else can get you 50 hp and 20 torque for an N/A engine ?
@@cornholioyo725 easy asf on mustangs and for easily less money, and that's already near 500HP stock, that's a good n/a car
Anyways, it's still not good
For $2000 just 44whp that’s insane for what you pay for and what you get compare to a turbo you probably can spend less but will get more out of it. But then then the N/A reliability VQ is way better than turbo cars. I would still pick N/A than a turbo cars. Just less problem in my opinion. The 3.7 is a pretty strong engine. Thanks fo the video.
Great video honestly the best one I’ve seen, very helpful.
But the only thing I didn’t get is the intake and tube? It said “Trick Ass Intake and Tune” wtf is that😂
Can’t wait to get a tune by you. I’m working with aam cai, aam test pipes, aam mid pipe and aam short tails. Gonna swap test pipes with art pipes soon then shoot for tune

Hey guys, just some F.Y.I for you all.
Another issue I had, ( which this time was an easy fix ) ...
Guys when you put in your new Cold air intake kits, The mistake I made was: Did you guys know that your throttle bodies have dedicated hot water lines going into them? Well, I didn't, until by accident I discovered them. You must plug them off or else you are rending your cold air intakes useless, as the hot water lines will " bake" the cold air entering your throttle bodies.
Also do a p.c.v delete, if you don't, because now your Cold Air intakes are allot more intense on air flow, you will actually pull in oil from your valve covers, totally fouling up your throttle bodies, they will be literly caked with black soot.
Anyway, hope all my " mistakes" help you guys!! Have fun, enjoy your 370z!!
PCV is important to clean up the oil from gasses and deposits. If you delete, make sure to add catch cans and change oil more often.
Do a catch can, the hot intake is for cold weather driving. Do not use k&n air filter. Use only paper with added foam. Kn filters will such in sand and debris.
Also needs trans and diff cooler and 2 k oil chnges these cars are a shit show. Just get a brz and add a blower.
Why would I get a BRZ? I would actually get a super charger for my 370z and blow the doors off of Demons Mustangs and Corvettes.
@@Hawlkeye-e9p did you just say a boxer is less of a shit show than this? Obviously someone is talking out of their ass, because if you want 300whp in the brz you're gonna want to build it. It also cost just about as much as the 370z and the supercharger kits are rather expensive as well. Not to mention boosted boxers are not exactly reliable when modified. Take it from me and thousands of other Subaru owners who have blown an engine because of the detonation and oil pick up/consumption problems.

I'm going to have Jotech do my engine rebuild but that's further down the line so the right bolt on mods for a fraction of the cost is always a plus!!! Can't imagine how quick Sasha's 600hp 350z HR N/A is.. no lag.
The best intakes are drop-in K&N intakes.
This is obviously tested in a controlled environment. Out in the real world you wont have big ass fans blowing air directly into your intakes. Also heat will kill your power and the intake pipes get HOT.
Trust me on this, the numbers are just that, numbers. Real world drop-ins are much better and give you more power throughout the power curve, not just at the peaks.
I have one fan. Drop ins in stock airboxes heatsoak more than a true CAI, and even on the street you can quantify the difference in airflow (and power when accomodated with the appropriate amount of fuel) by the increase in fuel demand/base fuel schedule in the ECU. Real world vs dyno as far on this dyno are the same thing, I can easily demonstrate this because I do not have to retune the AFRs on the street after I take the car off of the dyno. I see very similar MAF voltages, grams/sec, base fuel schedule between this particular dyno and the street.
When i get my tomei, intakes, and hfc's ill email you for a tune.
50hp for 2000$....this sounds like real life and no some clickbait bullshit, well done

My car fully bolted and tuned running 94 octane makes as much power as a stock 370Z
Well, damn.

@Crazy Chris True. My back seats and cargo liner are deleted, which saves me a few pounds. Car is still heavy af. About 3500lbs
I bought a Z31 turbo, a vg30et that dynoed an embarrassing 150hp/200trq with about 6psi. $1800 (decent condition)
350 hp was made with a couple hundred more bucks, making the cheapest power I can imagine. Looks like there's a few more horsepowers if I do some other simple things, but what can I say, it's my daily! My only issue is the 3000 pounds it weighs!

Own an HR 350z so im on the same team. But, now put the cats back on and see what you get. Gonna lose 15-20 right there. Taking the cats off any car gives big gains, but it's a huge compromise on drivability, especially with VQs. Not to mention it's technically illegal.

some daily 700hp and 900hp cars dont spit flames.. it solely depends on the tune.. whether it has 2 step launch control. antilag or tuned for a brief misfiring to shoot some flames.

15% increase in HP ...NICE!
Headers on a HR or VHR is not worth it IMO
This video proves the literal opposite, but thank you.
AdminTuning I mean, I'mnot trying to say anything bad about your work. But from what I've seen, Exhaust and Intakes give around 20whp, and Test Pipes like 10whp. All thats left is only 14, and Tunes usually give around 10 as well.
Exactly, skip the headers and put the money towards FI.
@@admintuning this guy probably can't afford headers, that's why it's not worth it to him
Headers basically get the car ready to get better gains with other mods I'm pretty sure.
Headers are around 700 and 700 more to install, test pipes you could get for around 350 self install and thats the 2 grand for 2 parts. Im skipping headers way too expensive
I really hope no one thinks sparks coming out of ur exhaust is a good thing.... flames just mean that ur running rich and don't have all ur catalytic converters (something else everyone seems to think is cool when it just means ur tune is slightly inefficient on the side of safety, running rich is better than running lean). But sparks means u either just blew it engine or are burning away ur catalytic converters.... not good
It's actually not rich at all.
i have a 09 altima thats dumping straight out the cat with litreally nothing else done to it and it shoots flames if im on 93 octane. also if shooting flames was so bad for the car there wouldnt be so many builds out there that shoot massive flames
Sparks are typically just carbon deposits burning off the backsides of exhaust valves. Not a sign of damage.
The car doesn't have any cats
i bet the fuel economy is worse now
Intake, header, exhaust, tune. Don’t even have to watch the video. Any tuner should know this.

Levi Kragt you’re an idiot
Lol okay. You just can’t afford VAG cars. Just stick to the poor mans sports car.
Nadsenec stupid
Good video & explanations !
No long tubes ? :(
Shorty headers FTW.
honestly? z1 headers are that good?
That doesn’t make any sense
I know it is counterintuitive at first, but the HR and VHR engines make the best peak power and top end power with shorty headers. The merge locations happen to be in just the right place to make good high RPM power with most shorty headers.
Unfortunately, ( ..least for Me ) I got z1 headers for my 2015 Nissan 370z, and they looked like the very same thing as the stock exhaust manifolds, 2015 and newer,Nissan redesigned the exhaust manifolds so that each cylinder has it's own port and tube, changing these out to Z1 headers made absolutely no effect or gain at all, other then a few lbs, and eye candy, that you really can not see unless you are under the car and specifically trying too look.
If you have a 2015 Nissan 370z or newer, Z1 headers make no differences at all. Just a friendly F.Y.I.
Also I changed out my stock intake plenum with a new ported intake plenum from Z1 for $560. plus they demanded my stock one in exchange, and got 0 gain from that as well, How ever, I did get allot more aggressive sound, but that's it, so in total I spent $560. For intake plenum, and headers $ 895 for a total of 1500, plus S&H as well as shop time...... and got 0 gains.
Guy's, really do some checking, asking, and speak to folks that actually know what they are talking about, before you do what I did, and get hosed, please, These companies will gladly accept your money, but when there's " issue" they will tell you : "That's there's no set guarantee and results very" Instantly taking you for your hard earned money, with no power gain detection at all.
I'm Joe Jones, and I'm willing to prove EVERYTHING I just said in this post.
thanks for this video .. ❤
I thought the 370z got 340hp stock?
MIMCK Media that's crank horsepower. Not wheel horsepower.
MIMCK Media no 350bhp/355ps@7400rpm 276ft-lb peak torque.
you´re right . not watched it carefully :)
Actually what really needs to happen: Car HP/TQ should be based on dyno results, but manufacturers want to post the BIGGER numbers because the mouth breathing public has perpetual ADD. Even more helpful would be a simple power-weight-ratio stat for each car. Then all you have left is the driver/gearing/tire choice/surface conditions/temp, but atleast the power to weight / dyno results would make for a more accurate comparison, especially as more vehicles weight approaches that 4000lbs mark.
No
Everyone saying” i rather get a turbo” fail to see the point of this. These bolt ons open up the car and amplify the hp your car already has. If you put a turbo in it, then these bolt ons would add even more hp than it would have stock.
Exactly.
2 grand for 50hp? I'll pass
James Foye You sound poor
You drive a Mercury Tracer - no one cares what you think.
These bolt ons can be done cheaper, may not get quite 44 hp, but youll at least get 40ish from ebay intake and a straight back. Probably run you like 200$. This much $ for these two mods can give you a decent amount of hp for any car.
A M there's a difference between poor/rich or smart/dumb. First of all, these mods can be done cheaper, secondly, for about 2,000$ you can put a decent turbo on there. Sounds smarter to me to start with a turbo.
Sounds like a fair deal to me. Spent about the same to make another 50hp on my car (4th gen Eclipse GT)
I have a 2016 sport tech with invidia gemini exhaust. I love the exhaust sound of gemini. I wonder if incould pair it with the other mods mentioned with similar results. The exhaust fitted to the car in video had a little more rasp than i like. The gemini sounds exotic. Im also wondering if the Z1 headers are responsible for the rasp
I mean I’m all in it for tuning but 2 grand for $50 crank hp? Lmao cmon
It takes at least 6-7 grand for a decent supercharger or turbo setup.
What do u expect?? U want 50 hp for 50$? Mods aint cheap man
That’s a good price, actually
damgoodballers a decent exhaust alone is 700$ let alone the intakes and the headers and also the cost of the dyno tune which is around 600$
The tune is what makes it that much lol....
Those crackles >>
