Saturday night
And the tap drips
Under the strip light
And I'm sitting
In the kitchen sink
And the tap drips
Drip drip drip drip drip drip drip drip
Waiting
For the telephone to ring
And I'm wondering
Where she's been
And I'm crying
For yesterday
And the tap drips
Drip drip drip drip drip drip drip drip
It's always the same
That guitar solo is so unlike anything else I've heard from the cure. I love how they have had so many different sounds throught the years
i feel like there's quite a few english bands that have based their whole sound around that riff...no monkeying about...
@@tonypine3434 I always thoght that System Of A Down made almost entirely their song ¨Aerials¨based only on that guitar solo... by the way, it was a really bad trip when I´ve imagined it the first time.
Robert was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, that's why.
@@CharlesMichaelSidwell He managed to import Hendrix into post punk
@@tonypine3434its a very very basic pentatonic lick, nothing special.
This is one of the Cure's best songs. It's such a shame all we get on the radio is 'Friday I'm in Love'!! Let's educate the world about their best tracks.
100% agree
this album doesn’t get enough credit, it’s brilliant
My fav cure album
What's the name of this album????
@@joseadrianhuertapalafox5966 three imaginary boys, it’s their debut
The band is brilliant!
Love This. When Rob Smith was so young and did'nt know The CURE will be à timeless band ! More thanks 40 years of career !
He was beautiful
I loved how the guys looked back then not like now all trying to be so buffed and muscley 🤢
Pure gem. Robert Smith and The CURE were near the beginning of the fame ! But their haunting sound and their unic style made them one of the greatest band ever ! I still do listen to their songs almost every single day. Never boring. They are genius.
Vintage Cure. Would give anything to see them perform like this now.
I saw them at the Royal Antler (a pub in on Sydney's Northern Beaches) in 1981! I would have seen them in '80, we were there, but my mate was sunder 18 and they wouldn't let us in. Fortunately, they returned the following year. Faith was their latest album. One of the very best shows i ever saw.
@@Meandgenevieve Saw them 1980 Mainstreet Auckland, Smith was dressed in some hippy type muslin get up setting up the gear on stage, sussing the crowd, place was packed with Auckland punks and skins ( I didn't even recognise him, thought he was a roady lol) their first show in NZ and they had no idea what to expect I'm guessing.....they all come out and he starts the set by saying "we are the Cure and we"re not a rock and roll band"......laugh the fuck out loud. oh and it was a great concert btw
Agree with you ! True fan of The CURE since I was a teenager. Friendly from France
My brother seen them in concert Sydney Australia in 1993 said everyone was dressed up like Edward scissorhands
Yes!!!
Happy Birthday Laurence Andrew Tolhurst, born February 3rd 1959,Horley,Surrey,England,drummer and keyboardist of The Cure
Great drumming style! 👌
That guitar solo is one of the best ive ever heard, and it doesn't even sound like something the cure would normally do.
Steady on old chap!
@@salubrious Indeed, but it takes all sorts.
@@bencolemanart Ha, ha, he's actually one of my favorite guitarists.
@@salubrious Oh yeah, he's great! No arguments here.
Yes i know what u mean
In 1981 my girlfriend Orla and I danced slow to The Cure's fast songs - and fast to their slow songs - at the Trinity Ball in Dublin... Happiest night of my life! Passion, where would we be without it? :-D
MrSontaran3 sounds like a great night! I honestly didn’t know too much of his music till about 4 yrs ago lol. I love it!
ntscUre!
incredible! my mom started at Trinity a year or two later and remembers The Pogues and The Smiths at a couple of the Balls.
That's the way to dance!
You are very lucky bastard's
Robert’s not a bad guitarist. It’s obviously simple punk influenced stuff but he’s got a unique style.
I like his guitar playing too. Their punk stuff is cool.
One of my favorite Cure songs. This earliest stuff is so brilliant! It's all so brilliant! Thanks for posting!
🤑🤑🤑🤑👄🤑🤑🤑
I love early Cure. They were still exploring different sounds and it was great
But don't you love on general The cure?
"I mean, they did pretty good and then they also did also good after"
This is real music man!!!!
1979 was a cool year for music debuts, this is one of them.
The Drumming and Lead Guitar are out of this world.
I was 18 when this blew my stoned brain to oblivion.
Still one of my favorites. That solo at 2:10 is so good.
raw and simple. one of my fave Cure songs.
Love the drumming and the splashing of the cymbals
Early Cure, at their finest! This whole album brings back memories...
Just as phenomenal now, as it was when I heard them for the first time in 81. Falling in love with the music all over again!
Oh my gosh, Roberts hair!!
Go THE CURE
it gets worse later when he's playing with Siouxsie and the Banshees the first go around out of 2. He's a dead ringer for Scott Baio! LOL Then he kind of co-opted Siouxsie's look with his own twist.
Oh my gosh! My hair. Gone, lol.
Dorothy Hamil style.
That was before he discovered Siouxsie Sioux hair spray.
My god this was a minute ago. 1978-2016 Cure fan forever. I love them.
"... I'm crying
for yesterday ... "
Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey and Lol Tolhurst , Three Imaginary Boys, I love this
Ace. I love early Cure 79-82
i love The Cure !!!
early Cure!!
Yeah, me too. That's definitely when they did their best stuff!
Early Cure or Easy Cure? ;)
You're not alone on this ;)
One of the best bands. Love the cure. And that guitar solo is awesome.
The Cure, simplesmente a maior BANDA DE ROCK DOS ANOS 80.
THE CURE IS MY CURE
wow, this brings back memories of a really good time when a new music era began. It's an awesome song
This is one of their best songs, and the guitar, gold!
This was the beginning of the 80s, and we were young.
Good tempo. Unic and brand new sound. Pure talent of The CURE in their very early days !
thanks guys for your heart!! ;-)
I love this video. Been looking for it for a while. So ace to see them as a three piece, stripped back, no frills, just a killer tune.
one of best songs in all time in my humble opinion
Seeing Robert in a tight shirt and that hairstyle makes me really want to go back in the late 70's ughh
Best guitar solo. Simple and emotional pleasures.
The simplicity of it all is what makes this song great.
Guitar/Vocals
Bass
Drums.
Three imaginary boys.
First song of theirs I ever heard, and those lyrics! Did he just say "I'm sitting in the kitchen sink"!? And the sparse but atmospheric sound hooked me forever.
This song has it all: spacey minimalism, spiky post-punk, Hendrixy psychedelia, gritty punk...
Man I love Lol. Have always loved The Cure but they have never sounded the same without him.
He was part of the best Cure era.
what a baddass band, love the cure, they are the definition of real music, even tho this song doesnt say much i relate to it 100 percent, long live robert smith !!!
Memories of good times in the 80's listening to The Cure - and this is a very psychedelic song ;)
this music got me thru the first couple of yrs of boarding school in the very early 80s ive fuckin loved them ever since......proper legends
Gosh! What a deconstruction of what I used to listen to in these long gone days.
Marvellous, I still feel the way like those days when tuning in again.
À l'époque c'était une de mes ex petite amie qui les écoutaient en boucle et moi ça me désespèrait, mais à force d'écoute, j'ai moi même apprécié ce grand groupe ❤❤❤❤❤❤. Merci Catherine 💋😘
Great upload. My fave Cure song. Some great music in '79!
Anthem to class people 1976 Love it
Best intro to a tune ever imo
:)
Love this era of the Cure!
Those were the days!
my god, this is awesome. raw talent at its finest and purest form.
pure post-punk, yea
Great song, probably one of my Cure faves.
My favourite Cure song 💜
I'm really into the older Cure stuff !! especially this song and Play For Today !! Wicked band !! Thanks for posting !!
One of my top 5 bands. 4 times live, 1982 - 2010.
With time i listen To others bands, from Sex Pistols To Sonic Youth but The Cure stays since i was 12 years old. R. Smith and bass lines are forever in my favorite one. I saw them in Belgium Forest, great show. Christophe JASSOGNE
OMG !!!!! I remember having this on VHS tape! Must have watched it a million times!! Now, I think I'll watch it a million more!!!!
I still have "Staring at the sea" on VHS, too. But no working player...
Yeah I tossed all my old vcr's but I can't part with my tape!! Got a $50 tablet, $129 Bose speaker & a great pair of headphones & no rewind...Love how far we've come technically!
Nancy Smith And you don't even need to adjust the tracking or rewind the tape 😀
love the sound, guitar bass and drums, really cool and emotive. ... used to be a fan in the 80's , with Motorhead on the other side... Still perfect after 40 years.. talent, for sure!
Motorhead is shit.
Wow, I've looked forever for the actual music video for this song. Finally!
This is such a brilliant song. And so tragic that no one knows it anymore. I'm going to go sit in my kitchen sink
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. New wave/post as subtle as you will ever hear it.
omg!!!! this is a total gem!!!!! thank you for this!!!
+Abby Myers you are welcome :)
Que lindo este video donde se ve a la formación inicial de The Cure: Smith (guitarra), Dempsey (bajo), Tolhurst (batería).
The guitar solo is my favourite part, amazing indeed.

This is a true classic.
Look how little they all are! Love them! Thank you for sharing this.
Who has never been through this at some point in their life.
Yup forsure 👌👍
Yes, I'm sure we've all had issues with our plumbing at one time or another.
Used to listen to this stonned in 1981 - ah, the memories :)
He wrote this at 16yr. at home drinking homemade beer feeling "morose" and listening to the faucet drip drip drip drip that's why the beginning cords are made to sound the same. N this is why they 1st got signed cuz of the drip drip drip drip....or so the story goes. Their still my 1st and last loves. From the cradle to the grave...i'm now in my 50's so yeah almost there.;)
Watching this on a saturday night and baby Cure looks great Robert’s baby voice makes me melt anyway
BRILLIANT!!!!!! SO NICE TO SEE THEM SO YOUNG NOW AGAIN!!
I love this song
This is incredible, thanks so so much.
Takes me back to when I was 19, thinking if I was at home on a Saturday night my life was failing. 1981.
Know that feeling
My all time favourite cure song ❤
thank you took me back.....husband said I had to turn it up in surround sound with the bass high...awesome..thanks for taking me back to real dancing
Absolutely amazing, never seen this before. Like being transported back to the 80’s. Robert Smith looks so young & so cool. 👍🏼🎶
Bass....bass......bass......

Genius piece of music! :-D
Waiting for the telephone to ring
drip drip drip
One of my favourite songs ❤️
I love this song ! 😍
Robert Smith, all of 19 years old here.
Almost cried with his cuteness hahaha
He looks really mature for his age.
He was making history and might not of known it. Love it!
what?! 19?!
20,he was born in april 21 1959 and this video performance was filmed in may 1979.

Great classic music video!
Geez. A great one ! Thank you
Love Robert's Jazzmaster. Be cool if he released a signature model. People forget how a brilliant a player he is, even if he doens't speak much of being an actual player.
Rythmics of this song is intemporal
Thanks for posting, saw this once years ago, very good song!
Thanks!
First time I heard this was in my apartment in Zooport Beach a billion years ago. Love at first hear.
The BEST song of ALL TIME of the 20th Century. Second was the doors. third femmes.
Amazing dynamics in this song
