This is the most overpowered hand warmer of all time
The N100 is a good wee chip. You can get full mini PC with 16GB of ram for around the same price. Though this would be really good for certain things.
Intel hw transcoding is pretty dang good, especially w/ ultra low power. My Apollo lake mini pc cpu is a few gens old and does a good job.
This PC is great if you are trying to save energy, like running it on solar electricity or to use it as always ON server
He's done other videos with raspberry pi running solar power. Might be interesting to see if something with n100 would also be a good candidate for it.
I woulndt have anything run 24/7 with UFS storage. Thats not going to last many years.
I was thinking of using something like this as home assistant server..
Thank you very much for your comprehensive evaluation of our product! Your professional assessment means a lot to us! We will continue to strive to bring better products and services to everyone! 💪
Was waiting for this version. Thanks
You might also like to consider the MeLE Mini PC Quieter 4C. I think it just fulfills what both of us have been looking for. And others too. 16GB RAM + M.2 2280 Key M Slot for PCIe.
This looks like an excellent candidate for Linux.
What computer isnt a candidate for linux? lol
@@guitaroach You make an excellent point!
This made me realise just how efficient the Steam Deck's APU is. I wish they would make a Steam Stick for behind my TV.
Its not efficient lmfao. Are you joking or? battery life is trash and tdp is too low. its using at this point an obsolete chipset.
@@const3llations_370yeah, the fact that it can perform like it does at only 15 watts shows it’s efficient. OLED especially, battery life is awesome
Thanks for reviewing this. I'm thinking of getting one of these (or something in this lane) for overseas travel as I would rather not keep relying on remoting into my main PC all of the time.
They have the quieter 4c for $70 more they has nvme slot and 16gb with 256 storage
And more io
With these units being so small, please show the power bricks. Its a relevant consideration for mounting purposes.
He said it maxes out at 18 watts and supports USB PD. Any 20w charger should work. Those are tiny.
They should support PoE
If this was POE there are so many cool things that could be done. I love the power these tiny machines are producing. The Raspberry pi really missed the boat on releasing a competitive product.
Linux?
Using it to run Home Assistant immediately popped into my mind.
I run HA on a different N100 and it’s hilarious: mine has soldered ultra fast ddr5, 12 gigabytes. With a ton of stuff going on, it’s using just 2 gigabytes and half lmao. That tiny thing would probably be better for me, except that it wasn’t available back then and local prices make it less desirable.
For these mini devices, please test if it can handle the Windows 11 transparent top-bar window manager/picker at >60fps at 4K. Drag a window up near the top and then into the bars, is it above 60fps at 4k?
No one wants a device that stutters at basic window management, so when using internal graphics, make sure to test this please!
Would love to know how cloud gaming holds up on this. Would be even better if it supported USB-C alt mode to pair with a portable display.
Also, Kodi is considered by linux as a viable desktop environment. I'd like to see if launching kodi directly from the login shell has any impact on performance.
I think a product like this has the potential to be the future of personal computing. Imagine a single device that could plug into a laptop shell, plug into a dock (potentially with an external GPU) for home use. Plug it into a handheld controller+screen and make a Steam Deck. You could plug it in at the office, or at any other terminal. Work places that have people who need to move around a lot. Take it from a class, to a dorm room, to an internet cafe.
Obviously that path would eventually converge with smartphones, but in the near future I definitely think there's a market for this type of versatile SBC solution.
This seems perfect for use as a remote link device to my PC, for streaming Steam
You could just get a cheap Google TV device for that.
got an n100 on a lpddr5 laptop, it's a great chip
Seems fairly amazing for the price.
Is this the best of its class or anything better in this form factor?
I love Intel N100 - it is literary good old i5-7400, requiring like 20% of the power that 7400 needed... with much stronger iGPU and support for DDR5
what not to love about it?
Limited expansion options due to the crippled memory and PCIE controllers. You're otherwise on the money.
Id also like to add that many companies do sell the chip in a barebones PC configuration for less than 100 euros, dollars or GBP.
It definitely has its limitations, but for 2D (or basic 3D) gaming, basic computing and basic web browsing, it is surprisingly competent! Just waiting for them to make a 12 core configuration with a beefier iGPU, it should be workable since 4 e-cores take up as much space as a single P core.
I do think this mini PC stick is a waste of money though, its like 235 euros in Europe, which is competing with the cheaper 5800u or in some cases a 6600u mini PC, which are obviously much stronger for the price.
@ChuwiEnjoyer 12 cores might not happen for a bit, but there are the i3 N300 and N305. Those are both 8-core versions with a bit of extra iGPU.
Hopefully the N series gets a refresh with the much stronger E-cores coming in Arrow Lake.
N200, with a better iGPU. But also unreasonably more expensive.
@@iokwong1871 n97 is also a good option
the n95 has 16EU in the iGPU, but clocked 50% higher per EU than the n100 has with its 24 EU.
The n97 (confusingly named) has n100 silicon (24EU) clocked at the higher frequencies of the n95
This is honestly great for the price if you need some media PC or simple PC for work. The quiet design is great for online meetings and or watching movies. This is not gaming PC and that's fine.
The only bummer is that storage is soldered. It would be great if it used the 2230 SSD like handheld PC do so you could upgrade it.
Thanks eta prime ❤
ETA Prime I was wondering if you could also test high bitrate Bluray rips or videos to check if it can even play 1080p at high 25-30Mbps bitrates? Thanks again for your time and efforts uploading these videos I know the hard work you're doing and appreciate it.
Pretty sweet little box 👍 👍
It is amazing what can be packed into such a small area. But, I can get more and better I/O for less money on other N100 boxes.
Just about when I was about to ask whether you had tried installing Linux on it, I reached the point in the video where you mentioned you'd like to do that. I've been using Ubuntu 2014.4 through 2022.4 LTS. Any other Debian based distribution is also fine. Ubuntu seems better at handling modern hardware.
Great video
3:08 you sure the storage is soldered? did you check the other side of the board? I saw pics online with an NVME slot on the other side, maybe there's different versions.
I'm curious as to if this could handle jellyfin even better than the Pi5. And/or Kodi.
I do wonder if cutting out a port on the side, and mounting a Pi cooler with a Noctua 40mm fan would improve performance without much bulk.
That seems pretty cool. Did it have a display port out? Sorry if i missed it. It would be nice to add with some Xreal glasses and a mini keyboard
I'd love to see a test of ChimaeraOS and ChromeOS Flex please.
Yes, I'd love to see a linux video on this, Zorin OS if possible...
If you wanted to this or something like it for an HTPC device, what would be a good air mouse/remote for it?
Looks good for carrying in you natural back pocket 👍
Thank you
Great unit to use if your living off grid
Better to get something with an inbuilt battery like a mini laptop running a low requirement OS
That way you've accounted for the energy use for a screen and don't need to drain the off-grid battery as often
@@rexcatston8412 I currently run a off grid backup server off solar
Would this run Parsec well streaming games from a main PC rig?
Welp, they not showing this on their Amazon store now. However they have the Quieter 4C available, and that model has USB-C DP alt mode support, which is vastly more useful to me. It also has an M.2 2280 slot for storage.
What is the best portable display with built in battery. This could be great combination 😁
Is this the most powerful p c of this type or is there something better for gaming?
Whould this be good for building it inside a psp casing and making your own handheld?👀
every time i see you review one of these super tiny PCs i think, "there's just no way he's gonna game on this, right?" and then it happens
ETA Prime I was also wondering while you're showing lots of God of war ghost of Sparta gameplay when you reach the near end of the game the game just stops working! And I mean after the long fight on the ship that is stuck in a water loop whole or tornado I guess, any thoughts how to fix this cause every time Kratos gets rid of the guy who shoots arrows at him and then tries to climb the roof when you move the game just freezes and stops working any thoughts on this one? Once again thank you for reading.
I ran across the MSI brand. Had no idea they made these. They come with 2 LAN’s. i3 and higher have one 2.5 GbE and one 1 GbE.
There is one on Am for $240, dropped in price so now I’d say it’s worth it over some of these. I msg’s them and they take 2 DDR4 slots up to 64GB.
MSI Cubi 5 Barebones Mini PC: Intel Core i3-1215U, WiFi 6E, BT 5.2, Thunderbolt.
Thinking of getting for UA-cam watching so can use Chrome and speed up by 5,10,15,20 % Speed which can not do with Fire Stick Max. Just 25%, too fast most of the time.
Use a wireless keyboard and I can comment also instead of using my phone like right now.
Would this work with a Nexdock without a power supply (powered from the dock)?
Let’s hear how the process to load the on board storage goes, and how easy to reload Win11. Agree 16GB would allow more head room.
Could this beauty run a Plex server for mostly 1080p and up to 3 streams with no transcoding on a local network?
this form factor is ideal for an Airjet
Man I am looking for a small factor emulation box to play up to GC and do some light streaming. Seems like it’s hard to go small without spending an arm and a leg for the convenience. Hoping for a cheap android box soon that has enough power to get going
I would like to see batocera or LibreElec on it, it makes the perfect TV/EMU box
Dude, n100 runs ppsspp emulator the rest emulators will run smooth
I wonder if modern Samsung phone in DeX mode would just beat it performance-wise
How well will Zero Sievert, Nuclear Throne and Teleglitch run on this ?
It has ad SD slot for more storage. Throw on a 1 TB or 512 GB and you can do just about anything an average PC user would ever need. (Most are not gaming folks.) So, based upon this review, I went to Amazon and bought one. I have a 17" LG monitor that I got from the Walmart clearance isle for $80 that I will attach it to making it a all-in-one type system. Also, since it has Windows 11, I thought I would play around with that OS, at least for a while to learn it. Then install Linux Mint or Fedora (with Cinnamon interface) on it.
I wonder whether the ChromeOS Flex can be installed on it.
I hope for some laptops with this cpu😊 For linux: maybe try elementary OS on it😎
Bro, can try see if it can boot Linux from USB? Just plug in a USB drive and install Ubuntu selecting the USB drive as installation target for the root folder ( the / ). But the bootloader should be installed on the windows drive. Wd love to see this ~ thx🙏😁
Tbh do a guide on installing a google tv on that, as it would really be a nice alternative to a chromecast 4k
hope i could test this kind n100 minipc through m.2 nvme adaptor for gpu. i have aliexpress 4"x4"x4" n100 minipc, which has only 2230 m.2 slot, but this is good enough, I think
It’s weird that these Mele PC sticks never seem to go down in price. The previous versions of this stick stayed $200 +\- $20 for 3+ years, and couldn’t even find them cheap used (e.g.
Does this or similar devices handl2 affinity publisher and photos?
intel n100 always have 1 channel memory, its his curse from intel.
Could you add more storage via USB port?
Quick question. can this be powered using a power bank?
Intel N100 look so tempting for Arc A310😊😊
Hi eta prime , can you test honor pad x9 for emulation
Can a iPad Pro deliver enough power to power this device like a Raspberry Pi?
If it was wider (about the width of a 60% keyboard) and had a banner style 10 inch LCD on top...
It could act as a terminal , or cyberdeck.
Can do this 4K120 in anyway? Seems that devices that can do wired 4k120 to a tv are rare , I wonder if this would be a good case for something like a moonlight client
Considering a RPI3 and RPI4 can do wonders with Moonlight then this PC should have no issues with Moonlight or Steamlink
I went through 3 of these off Amazon still don’t have one that works out if the box
Can the Mini PC run an external GPU through USB-C?
My dudes running around in skyrim with a quiver of 110 million arrows, what a guy.
FUcking Legend lmao
Can you try chrome os on it see how it perform?
Hoping for AMD version of this plus with either Oculink or Thunderbolt 4 or USB 4
i am thinking about what is going to happen in next year when these will be powered by snapdragon
Battery options for handheld?
can you please try an external gpu for it?
Connect a DAS to it and you have a cheap low wattage NAS
Just buy the new mini n100 4bay nvme nas $195
Suppose at 85 C/185 degrees F you can always put a fan next to it and use as a space heater. Should be nice on those cool winter days/nights.
But you can't heat anything properly with only 12 watts
Amazing, they managed the same performance as a smartphone that cost half as much.
Is... is this designed to be built into a smart tv?
Gonna test Starfield at 4k with ray tracing on this
It'd be great to review an AMD PC "stick" the size of a large remote control.
ETA those links aren't working for the Windows keys.
Nice 🙂
Can I connect it to a dock station?
I think they kind of missed the mark, marketing wise on this thing. It's marketed as a no-noise, mobile work station. I don't think there's much of a market for that when Laptops exist. Carrying this thing around also means carrying around a keyboard & a mouse and maybe a mobile monitor.
They should have marketed it as a mini home-lab PC, possibly running CasaOS or something to that effect. I'd have like to see it have replaceable storage too, a single NVME M.2 slot would have been 1000X more attractive than an emmc module. I refuse to buy hardware with an emmc module these days. I've been burned too many times with emmc devices when the emmc drive eventually fails, and it will, essentially turning your expensive $200 mobile workstation into ewaste.
YES INTERESTED
Dont Know Anything About Linux Im Just Bored
Mini PC Stick 😮
how is this with plex or kodi ? @4k
Please do a Linux install on this pc :D
YUSS!!!!
Zorin OS would be great if u can.
3:03 - Why didn't they include an m2 slot here? The form factor is perfect for a removable nvme.
Does anyone know if this pc is completely sealed? I see small triangles on the sides and wasn't sure if they are vents to radiate heat or if it is just a texture for looks? I'm looking to get something like this but it needs to be sealed other than the ports, I work in a mill and it gets really dusty so I'm paranoid about bringing my Rog Ally with me and would rather something sealed and without a fan to run some emulators and some light pc games
Around the edges it has tiny triangle holes around the unit
@@ETAPRIME Ohh I gotcha thanks for the info appreciate it 👍Have you come across one of these fanless mini pc that are sealed? Possibly a heat sink built into the top to dissipate heat
Does anyone think it can handle Lethal Company??
Thank you for the review. The marketing says it's a stick, but I wouldn't really consider this to be one. Mini PC, sure, but not a stick.
An actual PC stick would be something similar to a USB thumb drive form factor, like the original Intel Compute Stick, that you could "stick" directly in one of the HDMI ports in your TV/Monitor.
try out fedora on it pls.
I wish it had USB-C Display output
