With 3 kids it's hard to get away to the local card shop so MD has really been a way to get back in and unwind after everyone is sleep, lol.

I'm doing Master Duel only for a few reasons:
    1. Cost for entry. I haven't spent a penny on Master Duel, and as a casual player that is perfectly okay with me since I'm not trying to go straight to Platinum. I don't feel pressure to craft the staples as soon as possible to be competitive.
    2. I'm super forgetful when there's a lot going on at once. Sometimes I literally forget a secondary effect of a card I play in every duel. The automatic simulator aspect of the game is really helpful for me to keep track of what I've done and what I can do, in a way that real-life Yugioh can't compare with.
    3. It satisfies my itch to open packs without having to spend money. We all know it's cheaper to buy singles when building decks, but I love opening packs just as much. When I was first getting back into Yugioh in mid-2020 I bought a box of PHRA just to open packs again but I know that's not financially feasible for me to do every time a set comes out.

As a totally new Yugioh player, Master Duel is far less intimidating than paper. It starts you off from knowing nothing about how to play to actually winning games. On the downside, all the handholding could be a liability in paper!

Aside from being able to duel against my friends who don't live nearby, Master Duel is actually helping me to learn different decks, and it's also helping me learn some things about my own Decks that I either keep missing or simply forgetting in the actual card game.
That said, I still enjoy the human interaction of the physical card game

  • @anblueboot5364
    @anblueboot5364 2 роки тому +39

The biggest advantage of Master Duel for me is:
1st it being a Sim created by Konami the cards should work as intended, which can sometimes be doubted in other sims when interactions are unclear.
2nd and far more important: I'm able to play and train against actual Meta Decks, Master Duel/OCG Meta but still a lot of this will transfer into real life yu-gi-oh once I'm able to go to locals. My closest local is like 2hours of train travel away from my home so my practice in yu-gi-oh for the past 4 years has been like 5 games in which I just got destroyed cause I didn't know what any of the decks are doing. And other Sims not realy motivating me to play them.
(ranked games feeing meaningless cause there might never be a seriously taken competitive scene, idk if ranked 1 dueling books holds much of a meaning even though I know that yu-gi-oh player say it's the closest thing to irl yu-gi-oh cause timing can be missed and no pop ups etc.)
In Master DUels I face a variety of Decks and can passivly learn from those duels. Sure in the TCG we don't have 3x Maxx C but it would be exchanged with any other meta hand trap not changeing too much when it comes to deck building or just the experience. The Combo lines will still be similar the main difference will be the timeing of disruptions.

But: it isn't an official Simulator + I never heard of an relevant E-Sport Scene for DB. So being a high Rank lvl in DB might be meaningless (when you think about making Yu-Gi-Oh into any Form of career)
While master duel had the Hope for me to become an mention worthy E-Sport Titel supported by konami.
Not for me but the ones who are actualy good in the Game and Hope for a big Tournament Scene.
+ Sure Reading the cards explains the Card but I've Seen so many more experienced Player messing Up the Rules of the cards that I strongly believe that DB might not be the best place to start out learning Yu-Gi-Oh. Something master duel is.

Mainly due to the fact its cards are free and its browser based, also db isnt really there for tournament purposes you go there to practice and casual matches. If you wanna do a tournament its best you get some irl cards because i dont forsee konami doing very many online tournaments other than remotes due to the fact their main product is the actual game.

As someone who lives where there is little to no one playing Yugioh and the closest place that holds locals for it being almost 4 hours away. Master Duel is what I play when I want to play Yugioh with either internet friends or just because I have free time. The barrier to entry is amazing(I'm a F2P player and have 3 decks that I love playing) with it requiring no money to be spent at all as long as you continue to just play the game. Continue practicing with your deck and learning along the way. Do I wish I could play irl? Yes, I would love nothing more than to play irl, but at the moment that's not likely and probably won't be for a long while. Master Duel has given me a way to play the game, enjoy it, learn it, and overall just have fun with it. I've learned more by playing first hand than I have in the last 5 years of me playing the game on and off with friends

I feel like Master Duel is the perfect resource to get better at the TCG. I’ve been spending pretty much all of my time exploring and learning decks that I normally wouldn’t be interested in, or decks that I couldn’t really afford to build currently and want to build in the future.
I’ve also learned how certain effect chains work, when/if cards can miss timing, and just general rulings that used to confuse the hell out of me.
At the end of the day I 100% prefer dueling in person, but MD is such a great resource to learn more about the game.

As someone that played religiously up until the release of Labirynth of Nightmare, I can't even begin to imagine playing physical Yugioh due to the absurd amount of text and multiple effects that cards have nowadays. Since I've been out for so long I'd either have to read the essay on every one of my opponent's cards each time they play a card that chains onto a shitton of summons and effects OR just trust them and hope they're not cheating when making any moves. I played Legacy of the duelist and it was a mindfuck how much the game had changed but it's nice that the game keeps tracks of everything for you. I've been having a blast with masterduel so far even if I lose more than half the time

You would be surprised how easy it is to cheat when your opponent doesn't know your cards. Even in reverse of your situation. If you play a rouge deck. Even an experienced player doesn't have every card memorised and can still miss read a cards effect.
That also opens arguments like when I try to explain to people that Aromaserphy Jasmine only has a hard once per turn on its special summon effect and its search effect is a soft once per turn.

Hey Paul and the rest of Team APS. My situation is interesting. I much prefer physical cards because of the social interactions, being able to handle the cards, and feeling like I actually own the cards like you mentiones. Unfortunately though, I can't really buy cards and I also don't know many local people that collect or play the game so playing digitally is my best option.
I would like to add that the prompts, while they can be annoying and give away information, are very helpful to me as a returning player in knowing when I can or cannot respond to things and have a better understanding of the game.

    Master Duel advantages:
    +You can play for free.
+With time and patience you can make a decent amount of powerful decks, for free.
+You can play with many players, really fast.
+There is no arguing about the rules or specific plays since everything is handled automatically, and if it isn't possible, you can't do it.
+if your opponent had a better deck, you can copy it.
+Being able to copy, dismantle and get cards makes deck building extremely easy.
    Real life yu-gi-oh advantages:
    +You own the cards physically.
    ......
    .......
    ...........
I'm sorry but if the only advantage i get from playing the real life version is having the cards physically, and i have to literaly choose between having a ps5 or like 3 cards for the same price?, you are out of your MIND if you think this is worth it in any way or that it "evens out", one version, people can play, and the other, you have to actively choose between getting a few cards, or paying rent, how is this even a discussion.

Master Duel is fun, but there's a problem with its reward system. It works like this:
#1: Meta cards and off-meta cards cost the same. This is opposed to IRL cards, where you can get rogue options for nickels and dimes while meta cards cost $100.
#2: The best way to get gems is to win ranked duels and increase your rank.
This creates a reinforcing system where you either play the meta, or your revenue stream gets cut off. This leaves players with very few realistic options to go for in the game. You have to build the meta decks first, and then maybe you can build rogue and fun decks later.

i think physical yugioh is great for starting out to feel out the community and it's ethics, but the more time you have with it and as you get busier in your life, you lean to simulation. You just don't have time to go through the hassles, you need to get back to your responsibilities, your basic needs, your social life, loved ones, all that. You get to a point where you just want to play some quick rounds and go on to other things.

Master Duel has been nice as a free way to see if I still like the game without investing a lot in physical cards. I still don't know if I would want to invest in the physical game at this point, but in the mean time Master Duel has been a nice way to get back up to speed as a returning player since the game has changed so so much since when I fell out around the start of the Synchro era.

It isn't just physical vs digital. I have a weak immune system, so going to in-person events is not on the table for me with the current pandemic somehow still running rampant... so Master Duel is keeping me from going insane. That being said, Master Duel allows me to make decks of cards I don't own physical copies of, and to see if I would want to get them in the future. Dragon maids for instance. I think the only physical Dragon Maid card I've ever owned was Nurse Dragon maid. Was able to make an entire Dragon Maid deck for free with master Duel. Extremely easy to play, and now I know I would not enjoy playing it regularly. Also did it with Dogmatika and Tri-Brigade as well, and I found out I really like Tri-Brigade. The deck feels cool to play, not just in how they work together, but the art as well. It actually feels like a fantasy brigade you can imagine actually having their own anime.

  • @Samantha_yyz

For deck building in Master Duel, I have yet to spend money.
In my first hour was able to get a playset of every Dragonmaid card except for Sheou, which I have 2 of.
I currently also have a pure Aromage deck with only a couple cards missing a full playset as well. I'm two cards short of a playset for every Live Twin/Evil Twin and Witchcrafter too
Now after blasting through basically the entire solo game content currently available and most of the easy missions, getting gems has slowed down a lot. However, I've not been finding it hard to make a few hundred a day. It seems pretty easy to earn at least one pack a day.
So with a couple pack openings a day, combined with crafting, I've not been having trouble making my pure archetype decks.
I might spend money to buy those limited time gem sales but that's something I'm very meh on.

  • @TekkenShazam
    @TekkenShazam 2 роки тому

I really enjoy Master Duel. It got me back into modern yugioh and is great at seeing a lot of the different decks available. I can build strongs deck for cheap and share staples easily. Run super smooth, haven't had too many issues of rulings/game crashes/etc.
That being said there are few things I think hold it back. Some of these workable with future updates but some aren't due to the digital nature.
A lack of unranked playlists makes experimenting harder imo. I don't think it would be all sunshine and roses if they had an unranked option available, but it would at least incentivize ppl to play more without fear of losing rank. Just more ways to play besides just BO1 ranked will always be good imo. But this can be worked around in the future.
In a competitive setting its hard to BO1 and the digital interface seriously. BO1 skews a lot of MUs and field. I'm playing Eldlich and its free wins due to how little answers ppl can run without also hindering their gameplan or just running dead cards against other MUs. But BO3 can be added later.
The biggest thing for me is the lack of bluffing/mental game. Due to the game constantly giving you the opportunity to respond to everything. It makes it a lot easier to read backrow/handtraps.
Hmmm I normal summoned a monster and before the on summon effect could even trigger my opponnent gets a response? Solemn Judgment bet.
I drew a card and the opponent has a response window? Maxx C. etc.
    etc.
It makes it harder for the opponent/player to conceal their options and disrupt at an opportune time.
But I think that's just the nature of the system. Its not the end of the world for me, i still enjoy it a lot. But its something I think will always be a hindrance.

As a “returning” player trying to get back into yugioh (20 years ago almost), I have one question. Does the gameplay/rule set in master duel transfer to the physical game? Basically if I learn to play using Master Duel can I recreate my deck with physical cards and everything play the same? I know with some of the older yugioh games they kinda had their own set of rules and played different then the actual physical game.

    • @MaPleWoRlDOrder

Aside from it being automated everything else is the same. The only major difference is in physical tournaments you have a bo3 instead of a best of one and you have a side deck where you can sub cards in and out. I'm also pretty sure master duel uses a slightly different ban list than NA does so you might want to check that out if you do play physical yugioh. But when master duel gets tournaments it's 100% going to have side deck so that won't be a difference for too long.

Ive only played RL Yugioh when I was a kid and back then, I didn't understand how to play. So I never really got into it. Something in my opinion that helps me with Master duel is it knows how to keep score for me. My whole life ive been terrible with numbers. So, if I saw something battle and take Life Points, I would be confused because I'd have to math out how many point I or my opponent lost. That would take away from the experience in my opinon. Plus not having to find what cards you want and being able to almost instantly access them through Master Duel is convient for especially since I have no money to get cards nor do I believe there are any ways to travel anywhere close by where I live to play RL Yugioh. Well Paul….I gotta say…I’m more of a Master Duels person myself. I know some people will hate me for this reason! And that…is…Because I have another card game to spend my time and money in. Yugioh Master Duel makes it easier for me to craft! Build! And Obtain some of the newer Archetypes outside of the VRAINS era of booster sets.
Like Drytron for example: I wanted to build the deck as its main mechanic is awesome! And I can do physical Math well, however…at the time…They costed a lot of money, and I was at the point of giving up Yugioh for good and sell away all of my physical cards to get something out of giving up, but I didn’t.
I may have given up on playing the Physical card game for Yugioh, but It has always been…something close to my heart that shouldn’t be taken out of my life. Hell, With Master Duel, I don’t have to spend a bunch of money to make my decks better, Now! I can remake those decks and make them better.
I may get OTKS against me but Master Duels is fun, as I am back into Yugioh again through this Simulator. Will I go back to the physical game? Probably not, but….It is my personal choice whether I want to go back into the traditional Trading card game.

If this were original GOAT format Yu-Gi-Oh (pre-2008/pre-ExtraDeck) I would say IRL duels are better, but the game can barely be played IRL with the 5+ minute turns, countless cards to read, unintentional illegal plays, players not knowing how chains work and resolve, players not knowing spell speed priority, etc. I'd say 90% of IRL players have no idea about missed timings within chain resolutions, which along with the aforementioned are all things the game won't let you get away with obviously.

Master Duel is a more convenient way to play the game on our own time on almost any device. If you have a 30 minute lunch break at work you can bust out your phone and get a duel or two in.
