Heroes would not have been what it is without the charismatic and unique guitarplaying of Robert. That was another talent of David Bowie, he could find exactly the right musicians to express his deepest creative visions.
Yes, Bowie could recognize talent. He was one of two people that recognized the talent of a unheard of guitarist named SRV, when he got booed off the stage at Montreux jazz festival. Bowie hired him, and introduced him to the world, on “Let’s Dance” Jackson Brown was there as well, and was so impressed, he let SRV record his first album at his studio!
i noticed exactly the same thing. i love their sunday brunch performances. he adores her. both are consummate talented people. ive listened to fripp from the very beginning, hes an iconic genius.
Great performance and wonderful to hear Robert Fripp playing live on the masterpiece he helped create. Toyah has become that rarity in rock music - her voice has actually improved with time. Power, control, clarity, versatility, it's all there.
A beautiful performance hindered by a clumsy mix placing Fripp's guitar so strongly in front it buries Toyah, the synth fills and even the lead guitar solo
What a privilege it is to have grown up with artists like Bowie around, and what a joy it is to witness a couple like Toyah and Robert who just can't help making life better!
I had forgotten that Robert Fripp was responsible for that guitar work on 'Heroes'. Magnificent. And who can forget how Toyah and Robert kept up our spirits with their Sunday lunch performances during those recent dark days.
Ahhh..who can forget her in that tight white top, on that exercise cycle.....its burned into my memory.this is a great tune, I never knew Fripp did the guitar, though i cant stand Toyah's music, this is good stuff...
I have to admit after not giving Robert Fripp the time of day for what seems like forever I now have deep respect for what he did in this track alone. It is one of the best guitar riffs of all time. Well done as well Toyah. Incredible rendition of this song.
She was beautiful in the 80s and shes still beautiful in 2023. Still remember Hammersmith 1982 Great song, great singing. Love her! And Fripp too of course
What a hoot. A tight band, great sound, Fripp on the money, Toyah sounding good and full of piss and vinegar, still having a chuckle and spreading good vibes while paying tribute to Bowie and the legendary tune.
Not too sure about that. Toyah was OK in this clip, (and others) but the genius is in the performance of Fripp, and his contribution to the creation of this song. There's a reason why Bowie asked Eno & Fripp...
You probably know, but for others though Bob looks like a charmed bunny rabbit when performing with Toyah he does have a fearsome reputation. One exception to Robert looking fearsome. There is a performance of this on YT with Robert performing with Adrian Belew. Adrian was a long term guitarist with Crimson and Bob He had also been a long term guitarist with Bowie and his musical arranger whilst Bowie was on tour. No lightweight many years ago Belew had played guitar with Frank Zappa who was a demanding taskmaster. The resulting live clip of Fripp playing with Belew is the closest thing to love I have seen between two straight men. Please look for this and enjoy if you are not aware of the piece.
An amazing performance. Robert remains a true creative genius. It's over 40 years since the original was first recorded. Also made me think how much great music Bowie wrote and performed. Loved Toyah's interpretation, thank you for sharing.
Have heard many versions of this song, it's a favorite. This is my new favorite version, the band is killing it, Robert is transcendental with his playing and Toyah in perfect voice being the most dynamic singer extant. Whew!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! This is one of my all-time favorite songs, it has such meaning and depth to it. Toyah and Robert thank you so much as I sit hear with happy tears in my eyes! Your band did a fabulous job recreating the music and the feeling. A band I was in used to play it, we were only 3 pieces but I played 8-string bass and sang my heart out into it. Thank you so much for doing the song and David such an honor.
This is fantastic, David would be proud, and smiling that beautiful smile, Toyah sure is a Grover, Frip hasn't lost his touch either, throughly enjoyed this, thanks for posting.
BRILLIANT Tribute Toyah and hubby thankyou !! much appreciated by youtube bowie viewers, pity the audience wasnt so receptive, they dont appear to realise what a superb rendition of a classic song played fantastically on guitar by hubby there.
Whilst admiring their combined artistry, let's give a thought for the strenth and precision in Robert's fingers and hand . . . to play like that for so long demands exceptional strength and control. Two masters at their best.
WOW. Really enjoyed watching this video of Toyah and Robert on stage together. Great couple, great song choice, and fab vibrant live performance. ❤ Superb ❤ Loved it ❤
Fripp's sustain sounds phenomenal.
Its also way to loud in the mix. God knows why? the front of house engineer must be deaf!
It’s the Les Paul. Remember what Nigel Tufnel said, you can hold that note whilst eating a ham sandwich
He has the sustainer pickup in the neck position still, right? That thing acts a bit like an ebow. Great sound!
I think it's perfect , the same output as the original .
@@circlemoverbecause he's the name guy, gotta make sure everyone gets it that he's playing
Robert Fripp. Supremely talented and very, very lucky man!
He always looks like he's in shock to be there , like "F M , is that toyah?"

Robert looks at Toyah full of love and admiration - and a great performance.
Because she's keeping him young.

@richardberger5482 Fripp is a master guitarist with amazing tone!
You know that's pure love ❤️
One of the great guitarists of rock music.
Great performance and wonderful to hear Robert Fripp playing live on the masterpiece he helped create.
Toyah has become that rarity in rock music - her voice has actually improved with time. Power, control, clarity, versatility, it's all there.
she's superb live-really loves what she does. A brilliant, wonderful performer
Очень громко,-это говорит само за себя,я тут главный,я диктатор
Agree on your comments on Fripp but Toyah ruines this IMO but then, dach to their own. She has none of the originals syntax or emotion
?????? Wtf
@@joolspirog Well, for that you would need a time machine. While you're inventing one, I'm happy with this.
Robert Fripp. What a guitarist! Amazing skills and feelings for his music.
Hear his solo on Brian Eno's "Babys on fire" ... untouchable brilliance!

Toyha still looking and sounding good, excellent musicians
Robert Fripp, one of the greatest guitar heroes of our times, quite under-rated, being frank. Beautiful cover of a classic!
If you play a piece of music that you had an integral part in creating, then it's not a cover.
@@Azabaxe80 Thanks.
Fripp wroet and played the rift.
Not technically a cover as Fripps contribution to the original made it wot it is
FRIPP..........simply outstanding!!
Always loved this song...
3 geniuses..Bowie, Fripp and Eno....
Always loved Toyah and Robert Fripp. Superb performers.
What a privilege it is to have grown up with artists like Bowie around, and what a joy it is to witness a couple like Toyah and Robert who just can't help making life better!
Oh my God those must have been the days there will never ever be another era like that
This is why live music will never die. Proper musicians, no auto tune, no flashing lights or dancers, just perfection
Add fully clothed woman, to boot nothing worse than a half dressed woman trying to sing.
Toyah simply beauty personified like a greek godess.
That was god awful, Robert’s reputation just took a nose dive.
@@franksmusic2880 Lemmy's version is worth a listen.
Toyah and Robert taking a leaf out of the Bowie performance book (not to mention ABBA and Blondie. No BS just great music.
Well said. Rick Beato would also agree.
Fripp’s finger vibrato is sublime 😊
Yeah. Honestly I am not sure sublime is a strong enough word. That was totally other worldly
(Yes according to Toyah I hear.)
LOL@@isleyruntjones9007
The man practices every night, even while on tour. He's like a monk - challenged to perfection.
He has to do that to keep it sustaining that long
I had forgotten that Robert Fripp was responsible for that guitar work on 'Heroes'. Magnificent.
And who can forget how Toyah and Robert kept up our spirits with their Sunday lunch performances during those recent dark days.
Not my husband, for sure, ever since I told him about those videos! lol He was already a big Fripp fan! Toyah brought Fripp out of his depression!
It got on my nerves

Poor old Frippy.
Fripp played also in Bowie’s Scary Monsters. His guitar sound is so recognizable 😇

Apparently he showed up, recorded the track in one take, and left again. That's genius.
Oh yeah! I love this song!
Fripp is in a class that is so high "up there", it is difficult for most people to comprehend. I'm sure glad I do.
@@bytornsnowdog2112 He certainly is!
Robert is wicked cool on that guitar, and Toyah sure can move. Awesome cover.😎✌️✌️✌️❤️❤️
This performance ist not really a cover, because Fripp "wrote", better, created the famous guitar riff.
Didn’t know she was a singer…thought she was just nuts!!

It's called a sustainer pedal.

They played this at Glastonbury. It brought a wee tear.
Which ? or was it both ends ?
One of the best covers of this song I've heard yet
Probably due to the fact Robert Fripp played on the original recording. The vibrato gives me goosebumps.
Adrian Belew does a great job at it. Check out Fripp at Daryls House. Yuppp. Daryl Hall. It's totally now!
Check out Hollywood vampires version , j d worth a listen
