The most definitive commentary I've heard on the subject. It's actually hard to keep a group together, let alone maintaining some kind of unity and musical focus. Drugs and alcohol don't help...never have. Good job on the presentation.....

Alexis Korner visited him in late June 1969 and noted that "Jones was happier than he had ever been" and Brian had demoed a few of his own songs in the weeks before his death.

If yor ex sets up with your “mate” whilst you are sick and then she starts editing out your input with him and none of the other guys are getting big bucks from the composer royalties then it’s not surprising. Makes a contrast with the Doors.

I really looked into this a few years ago and I think my big takeaway is that two things were true at the same time: Brian was an absolute asshole with major mental health problems and that Mick and Keith were _exceptionally_ cruel to him - really taunting his impotence within the band by doing things like not recording his parts or asking him to turn up after they'd all left to record, and never granting him songwriting credits for his major contributions. They really went out of their way to make him feel shit.
It seems like Brian might have been the, or one of the, first British people to learn to play blues slide guitar too. And he was absolutely exceptional and original with it. His solo on No Expectations is one of the purest things ever put on a Stones record despite his state and the likely truth that he had seldom played guitar for a couple of years.

Brian Jones chose the name. He was the leader. He signed all the recording contracts, the management contracts, all kinds of things. By early adolescence, Brian was exceptional scholastically; his IQ was a very high 135, in the genius range. Brian had health issues so taking all that medicine back then most likely affected him deeply . The meds back then were not so great and the after affects probably affected him badly . Bill Wyman said this and it makes sense to me. Brian Jones` erratic and destructive behavior could have been due to serious undiagnosed medical problems. One of Jones` out-of-wedlock daughters, now in her 30s, is quoted to the effect that she suffers from epileptic symptoms that cause fits and mood swings similar to those exhibited by the father she never knew. Sounds like your speaking about Keith Richards. Stones pianist and roadie Ian Stewart had to keep a list of airlines unwilling to let the guitarist aboard, and he later revealed that Richards was banned by Alitalia 'for staying in the restroom from Rome to London, punching that crazy Anita Pallenberg.

Brian was a no talented poser and he did NOT play a solo, ever on any Rolling Stones song. What he played in No Expectations was a copied accompaniment void of any variation or improvisation. Everything Brian played was a note for note copy of Jagger;s sung melody or simple slides up to the chords that Keith was playing. The total of what jones played was in fact 30 seconds of copied music repeated exactly the same way eight times without variation...
I sounded nice especially when Nicky Hopkins added his beautiful and haunting piano in the later verses.
Jones never got any writing credits for one simple reason...
      JONES NEVER WROTE ANYTHING!

8:38 So the split was agreed amicably between BJ and the band. Jagger and Jones both accepted that it was not working out.

Brian did play guitar on December’s Children and Aftermath. It just wasn’t the weaving him and Keith used to do before that. The two guitar parts are what made the Stones signature sound. Too bad Brian started playing everything but the guitar later on. Merry Christmas!

There’s also the fact that Brian played dulcimer against Keith’s acoustic on Lady Jane and sitar against Keith’s electric on Paint it Black , etc, etc. The way Keith played against Brian on Aftermath had changed. On Satanic Majesty’s Brian played Mellotron more

@@richardbanker3910 Keith complained about Brian not playing guitar but Aftermath would have been a dud without Brian experimenting. Brian’s dulcimer, Keith’s acoustic and Niztche’s harpsichord during the break was brilliant.
