Can I make my VFR1200X the Perfect Adventure Tourer?

  • Re-uploaded. In this thrilling installment join me in the garage as I endeavour to address the Crosstourers biggest weakness, its crappy suspension. I also replace the head bearings, the regulator/rectifier and the air filter and sort out some dodgy wiring.
    Please note that this is a re-upload of the original video with new music that is not copyrighted (the original music wasn't either but their seems to be a booming industry run by dishonest kids in basements claiming that copyright free music is theirs in an attempt to make money).

    As an old retired guy I can't afford to do mods if I want to ride. So I ride and watch other people do mods so I have enough money to go riding !! 😊😊

    Brilliant! I envy people who can work on vehicles. I’m about to get my 2nd CT and need to learn how to work on it. Appreciate how slow and methodical you and patient you were while working on your bike. Can’t wait to see the follow up vid with you test riding your new bike! Subscribed! Ride safe….

      Cheers. I’m no mechanic but UA-cam is a great resource and then it’s just a matter of giving it a go.

    Great video. Thanks for showing the other side of the filter. The music? Not even necessary.

    Hello. What model of cartridges are installed? Please provide a link. What other manufacturers can you recommend? I also want to change the suspension. Perhaps you can recommend a rear shock absorber with adjustment like the original, I often use it.

      @@ilyarudakovski823 I used the YSS inserts to suit the VFR, they only make one. I can’t help with other brands unfortunately. Not sure about rear shocks that retain the hydraulic preload but Google is your friend.

    I thought the reg/rec problems were on earlier Hondas? I'm not sure it's an issue on bikes like the CT. I own a 2016 CT and have never thought it necessary to replace mine, Im only on 23k miles though.

      @@trevorphillips3055 I guess it’s the “once bitten twice shy” philosophy. They’re relatively cheap and easy to replace so I did just that.

    Mccruise in Victoria make a fully electronic cruise for your bike if you're interested.

      I have an MCCruise unit fitted to my CT. It is pricey to buy, and I paid even more for my mechanic to do it, but it was worth every cent. I did a ride across Australia recently; the relief mentally and physically for my wrist was great. It also makes hamstring stretching or drinking from a waterbladder on the go so much easier.

    Your water fill looks to be a hose and clamps, could you relocate with longer hose?

    • @abitofadetour7315
      @abitofadetour7315  3 місяці тому

      You could temporarily I suppose but it fits in a small niche behind the fairing so I doubt you could modify it permanently. Not a bad idea though.

    How do you organise the bolts and nuts so you remember what goes where- if you’re doing this over an extended period ?

    • @abitofadetour7315

      I probably should! I generally don't leave things pulled apart for long but if something looks like I'll get confused when I go to put it back together I'll take some photos of it as I take it apart.
